"Rio" is a movie the whole family will enjoy. Like the "Ice Age Franchise" the creators have developed characters that the viewer can relate to and there are strong messages of friendship, encouragement, doing what is right, courage and compassion that make this film a winner for taking the children. The animation is beautiful and the emotions are strong. It is pleasant to have a story staged in a different culture and to have it honestly presented from the over the top splendor of Carnivale to the slums and homlessness of children. The ending is beautiful and what you hope for. A must see for the summer and a must buy for your home collection!
A decent story on top of excellent animation, there is nothing extraordinary about Rango. With children in hand, I was put off by some of the language and the sexual innuendos - just not necessary but an unfortunate part of the Hollywood culture. These rascals worship the Spirit of the West, offering a prayer and giving htanks - another unfortuate part of our culture. If you see this one, don't waste your money in a theater-wait for a DVD or onlie release.
Having read professional reviews, I was skeptical. The 2 hours were over before we knew it. I took two @7 & 1 @4.Aa little much for the 4 year-old. It is loud and can be scary. Lots of mythology. If you have not read the books, you'll need to remember a lot from school! The special effects were terrific. Nothing hokey about this tweener script. I was on edge about the depiction of drug use (lotus eaters) as fun and sex in the underworld once the heros transported out. I wish directors would not rush kids into the grown-up culture and handle the plot line with a little more innocence. We are looking forward to the next movie.
Great cast, silly script, lots of laughs and a good message for the kids. The message? You can't win unless you make the effort. It comes across in this movie in spades and the tension as the three focal characters work for their dreams is really well done toward the end of the movie. Even then, it is not easy for these three to achieve their dreams, they try and fail and have to dig deeper to get across the finish line.
The gags, the jokes - juvenile and predictable but still funny. Good, clean fun. My 3 said their favorite part of the movie was when the kid did well at the end of the movie!
Better than Chicago - this movie is hot! Fergie is off the charts in "Be Italian" . The girls - Kidman, Cruz and Cotillard bring it. I was surprised at how well I enjoyed Daniel Day Lewis in the role of Guido. I was thoroughly entertained. I will see this again on the big screen and will add it to my DVD collection when it is released. I LOVED it!
If you like "cute" movies, see this. Nothing new here, it is another Alvin and the Chipmunks flick with lots of gimmicks from other cute rodents. I can't say I ever got past the obvious weak dialogue delivered by the the little guys, but I will admit that I didn't see coming what happens at the end of the movie.
Good, clean fun with family values plot line. Rent the DVD for the kids.
I went with my 45 year-old brother. We both loved it. For those of us who grew up with the cartoon, we understand that this is a well-done film based on a terrible old anime cartoon that we sat and watched without fail. Sure the story is not complicated. This is more of a Japanese action flick than anything American, but the cast, the action and effects are made in the U.S.A. The racing was riveting-the best I have ever seen in a motion picture.
