The writers of Monsters vs Aliens did a good job of making an animated film that appeals to children but has a subversive layer of humor for adults. There are some great cultural references that hearken back to the 60's, 70's and 80's. You get a real taste of that when "The President" climbs the stairway/podium to try to make contact with the alien. I look forward to watching the extras on the coming DVD to see how all the character voices enjoyed this experience.

I went to watch this movie with my kids and niece. They laughed so much and so loudly! They absolutely LOVED it. My 8 year old son got lots of laughs. I also found it great fun, as a fan both of old Sci-Fi B movies and kids movies.
The start is a little slow, with the wedding scenes explaining how Susan became Ginormica.
After the opening, the pacing is better, with subtle and not-so-subtle parodies and cultural references providing some humor for adults. Galaxar as the bad guy is the best thing since Mars Attacks.
Insectosaurus doesn't have much to say, but the other monsters - Dr. Cockroach, B.O.B. and Link, will give you quite a few laughs. The scenes borrowed from old B movies are classic.
Monsters vs Aliens isn't in the same league as the Madagascar or Ice Age series, but it is still great family fun and an enjoyable afternoon.

Monsters vs Aliens was an enjoyable hour and a half escape for an evening. With nods to many famous Sci-Fi films of the past, it gave the adults in the audience plenty to laugh at while giving the kids a captivating and interesting storyline. The film was rife with big names, but the voices were hard to identify so they integrated well with and didn't detract from the characters on screen.
Although this certainly wasn't the "Best Movie Ever", it ranked above average on movies you can see with your children and still not be bored out of your mind.

The reviews for Monsters vs Aliens shortchange what is at times a truly laugh-out loud parody of 1950s science fiction films such as The Fly, The Blob and, of course, Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. Many of the jokes are aimed squarely at the adults in the audience and some themes and scenes are a little strong for the kids to whom the film is marketed. However, there is enough action and goofy humor to keep the little ones engaged and the humor is sophisticated enough for the adults. Well worth seeing, I'll be there for the sequel.

This was a fun movie for all ages. I especially like the casting of Seth Rogen. He added some very good comic relief at the right time. The movie did struggle with getting major ideas and themes out to the audience. It had a nice feel the way that it had a female heroin instead of the typical male hero. 2 adults, 2 kids (12 and 6). The animation is fantastic! Very detailed! We all had a laugh at different times during the movie. Characters were cute but not easy to identify with or connect to. moral didnt connect to all of the characters or really feel at all important. loved the girl power bit but could have been built up betterl. over all , good show but could have done it on dvd. felt a bit like it was going straight to a disney channel program.

i took my 11 y/o sister to see this w/ the expectation that it was going to be another cornfart cgi animated movie attempting to play off the coattails of Pixar but was wrong. this movie was surprisingly entertaining....seriously. it had a good story, good actors playing the roles and the pacing was right on...meaning it didn't drag...much. we didn't see it in 3D but i plan on seeing it. recommend for a 7-13 demographic~!!!

I went to see this with my 7.5 year old nephew, who enjoyed the movie, but clearly not as much as others that he's watched repeatedly.
I found it a tad boring, although appreciated that it was set in the hometown (i.e. SF).
This movie is easily forgettable. No one will be talking about it in a year or running out to get the DVD.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

We took 9 12 year old boys to see Monsters vs. Aliens and all liked it a lot, none said it was "incredible" or fabulous" Would recommend seeing it to be sure, and its okay for 5+ depending on your child, maybe a bigger hit movie for slightly younger than 12!
