Went with great expectations and was a little disappointed. Julia's acting and the beautiful places kept it moving.
As for the story, I felt like she is a screwed up feminist. Why are they so afraid of men and commitment to them? The problem is they have too much freedom and too many choices.
It's an ok movie to watch with girlfriends.

It was a good movie. Julia Roberts was able to capture the emotion as she always does! Visually a beautiful movie. If you've traveled to the places seen in the movie, it was a great reminder... if you haven't, it certainly makes you want to take a vacation. I will and have already recommended this movie to others. It will take on a different meaning to each individual.

Seriously, a very slow moving movie. Boring! The main character is selfish, unreliable, and constantly trying to find 'satisfaction' in life or perhaps a purpose ...and in her search she 'discovers herself' ' in another man? Perhaps if she had taken B12 she would have overcome her depression and not destroyed two others life in the process!

The scenery was breathtaking, the movie stayed on track with the book. It was a little slow during the meditation sequence but it was worth it. Julia Roberts did a great job.

I very much enjoyed seeing this movie. I knew the storyline, as I had read the book, but loved seeing all the scenery in Italy and Indonesia.
The book told more of Liz' angst and why she took the year to search but the movie did a good job of sticking to the story. Nicely done.

An enjoyable movie about love, and life. Julie Roberts as usual is a joy to watch and pulls us into the role. Yes I think it is safe to say this is a Chic Flick there was only one lone man in the audience when I saw the movie. Lessons are learned and you develope a kindred spirit with the character. Very well done Julia.

Love... love... love when the movie follows the book. Also, loved the flashbacks which helped those who did not read the book understand Liz' thoughts at different times during her marriage. Such a feel good movie. And, also loved the soundtrack!

It's a great movie, I have been looking forward the movie that's telling story about independent, happy, and confident woman for a long time. Liz is a great character, and so is the author of the book. I wish one day I would have the courage to drop everything that bothers me from disturbing reality, and go on an adventure, try delicious food, meet new friends, enjoy fresh air away from stinky, stressful world, most importantly, listen to my heart, from inside, and find a way to live my life happily ever~

After reading the critic's reviews, I was prepared for a lackluster adaptation of the book. I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed all the characters in the movie as well as as the book. I thought Julia Roberts portrayed Liz really well. In each phase of her travels, I could feel the emotions being sated every step of the way. If you have ever been searching in your life, I think this movie will touch you.

What makes this movie a must see is that it shows you what happens when you surrender your ego and trust in the spiritual journey...when you connect with your spiritual purpose. Sometimes that is peaceful, sometimes painful. This movie is endearing, truthful, held to the book very well and was entertaining and beautiful.

I read the book which had soul...This movie had NO soul. Love Julia Roberts in romantic comedies but this needed someone different...perhaps some books are just better left on the page. why the bare butt? why not a love scene?

Julia hits many of our "hot buttons", grls; her "muffin top" speech is wonderful, and should be taken to heart! The men are all tall, dark, brooding, and scruffy, which seems all the rage these days.
But.....the story is shallow, and doesn't hang together very well. The scenery is gorgeous and it's a nice travel log....
But.....'WHY did she do that?", never gets answered. If 'light and thoughtless" iswhat you're looking for: see this is the movie. If it's inspiration you seek, see something else.

While I am more of an action film guy I do appreciate a good story that flows. This film is long and starts slow but is an enjoyable diversion. Take your wife...you'll both enjoy it. No, I did not read the book. Which probably helped.

I thought it was a pretty good movie. Julie Roberts was great as usual. I really enjoyed being able to see all the places she visited. Personally, i think she was missing the real God in her life (Jesus).

Looks like many are disappointed btw the book and the movie. Didn't read the book, took my wife to see it because she is a Julia Roberts fan, she didn't like it and neither did I. It had it's moments, and it's not all bad, but it's way too long, and I would wait for it on video. I would say it's one of her worst movies. I like the premise of getting your life back on the right track, but it just drags on.

The movie did not live up to the book. It highlighted certain stories, left some important information out and then added some parts that possibly contributed to appealing to mass audiences, but took away from Liz's true story. I thought the bit about Felipe being the one to run her off the road when she was on her bicycle was unnecessary and put a negative light on his character.
It would have been nice to learn more about her battle with depression in the film, thereby not making her seem SO incredibly self-centered in the movie.

Based on a true story... shot on location... a wonderful movie of someone finding themselves by traveling to distant parts of the planet. Eat, Pray, Love is a great end-of-summer movie... before all the holiday blockbusters hit the big screen.

One my favorite things about JR is her expressions, mood looks, laughs, etc that seem as predictable as those used by your best friend. Each one is a story in itself and when used, are always what you expected in after-thought. Good story and some good location shots.

I really enjoyed this movie and was wondering how they could possibly put this book into a movie, but it was done quite well. If you read the book before you go to the movie I feel you will enjoy it more. You willl get so much more out of it after reading the book.
