Having "been there and done that", I looked forward to seeing how Eastwood portrayed near-death experiences. He does it with art, style and an amazing dose of reality!
But, the writing, the story-line itself, would get a "C" or even a "C-" from any sixth grade teacher. As several others have noted, there are gaping holes in the story and it just doesn't hang together.
Damon and de France do creditable jobs with what they're given, but..... Someone once said you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
This may be a very expensive sow...but it's NOT a silk purse!
No, I do not recommend this movie.

"Remember when your parents told you that lying always ends badly? Well, in spite of Olive's big heart and her quirky parents, lying ALWAYS ends badly!
It's only the truth that finally sets her free to be all that she can be.
But, the audience has a wonderful opportunity to laugh uproariously, jeer loudly, and offer their own parental guidance as Olive works her way through high school's potholes.
Take your high schooler to see this one and they may get a new perspective on your parenting skills! Unfortunately most of our kids aren't as level-headed as Olive, which makes this is a wonderful fantasy and great adult entertainment!"
Julia hits many of our "hot buttons", grls; her "muffin top" speech is wonderful, and should be taken to heart! The men are all tall, dark, brooding, and scruffy, which seems all the rage these days.
But.....the story is shallow, and doesn't hang together very well. The scenery is gorgeous and it's a nice travel log....
But.....'WHY did she do that?", never gets answered. If 'light and thoughtless" iswhat you're looking for: see this is the movie. If it's inspiration you seek, see something else.
