This film was superb. What was most interesting about it, to me, was its significantly more subdued tone than any of the previous entries. It unfolded much more like a serious drama, than like a typical Potter film. The pacing was superb, and the acting was top-notch all around. Well worth checking out.

Loved it, it was amazing! I really wish they could fit all the details from the book in the movie - obviously they can't, but would be nice if it were possible. I enjoyed the movie. I was suprised by the amount of screen time given to the budding relationships of the teenagers, but I know the movie will be appealing to them because of it. I haven't read the books up til now so I do not know if this is part of the story line! The refreshing thing was nothing was overdone and everything seemed normal if Harry Potter can be considered "normal"!??? I hate that I have to wait to see how everthing turns out which might make me read the books!

Loved the movie - even though they strayed from the book on occassion, it didn't really change the flow of the story. Really liked Harry's attitude in this movie - wonderful sarcasm - just what you would expect from kids that age. Also really enjoyed the realistic way they dealt with teenage love.

Although the axiom "it's not as good as the book" is a tiresome thing to hear it's nevertheless never been truer than in this movie. Although the Potter movies have historically fell short of the mark in terms of adequately telling the story as told in the books, this movie reaches new lows in terms of blatantly ignoring key plot points. Gone are house-elves and wartime romance. And properly honoring the fallen. What's most frustrating is that in the time they saved by omitting key scenes from the book, they made up by fabricating two COMPLETELY NEW SCENES. I guess the director felt that J.K. Rowling simply didn't tell HER OWN STORY sufficiently well...

While the movie was an enjoyable movie, as a book adaptation, it failed. There was too much focus on teen romance subplots and not enough focus on the main driving plot of the book. If you've never read the book, you will certainly enjoy this movie. If you have read the book, you may still enjoy the movie, but will likely find much of it disappointing.

Many people are complaining about the lack of action and suspense in this film, however if you've read the book you realize that this story is more about character development and maturation than plot. This series of events (as it was in the book) is mostly a set-up for the last two movies that will come from the seventh book, but that is made up for by the increase in comedy and entertainment. I would definitely recommend my friends to go see it.

It dragged on a bit too much especially in the first part of the movie. It took a while for it to pick up and really capture my attention. The plot was weaker in the movie than I remember it being in the book. A few really good action and special effects scenes. The acting was good. Overall, the movie was good. Good cinematography, good humor, good flow. But what I keep returning to are the deviations from the book.

Why would one spend an inordinate amount of time on the vanishing cabinet, if all it is used for is to bring Death Eaters into the castle, for what? To help Draco and Snape run away? Where was the battle at Hogwarts? Completely nonsensical and boneheaded choice.
The inexplicable attack on the Burrow, the failure to introduce Bill Weasley, who gets mauled by Fenrir at the (missing) Battle at Hogwarts, and the lack of a proper funeral (wands held up like lighters during a concert ballad) keep this from being a 5-star movie, when it easily could have been.

I have read the series over and over and over again. This movie was fantastic!! I loved how they actually made the characters feel more life like with their dealings with teen issues! The actors were amazing - special effects were out of this wold! I was extremely impressed!!! I will definitely go see it again and buy the DVD to add to my collection! If I saw this movie without ever reading the book, I would be confused with what was going on in the plot.
Myself, having read the book, I am disappointed with a lot of the decisions made as to which plot lines to cut vs. what to keep in. Also, the film's climactic scenes were not exciting. My favorite scene from the book turned out to be a fast 1min CG that left me feeling unsatisfied. Not the best HP movie for sure.

While I am a purest of the HP books, and wish it was possible to put the full book into a movie. I understand you can not. However, I do not understand adding extra content. This was definitely the best Harry Potter movie. Some of them have seemed rushed, and had a bit of forced acting from the kids, but neither were an issue in this movie. It was well-paced and you can tell that HP, Ron, & Hermione are getting better at displaying emotions without overacting or looking false. My husband's only complaint was that there were a couple scenes that were added and unnecessary, but I felt they didn't detract from the movie in any way. Well done.

this movie was my fave harry potter film as of yet. i thought it was funny and the acting and effects were amazing. the only thing that really disappointed me was that there was no batttle scene at the end like the book, i can understand leaving some of the other stuff out of the movie, but the battle scene was what i was waiting for and it wasn't there. other than that i loved the movie

I haven't read the books, but I've watched all the movies. I thought some of the events were crucial to the storyline and I enjoyed the movie up until the point I realized it was ending. I thought it was the funniest one yet, but I was upset the ending wasn't more dramatic.

Overall it was great!!! Very well done. I am recommending it to everyone. I'm not sure how closely it follows the book, as I haven't had the chance to read it yet.

I am one of "those" Harry Potter fans... You know the ones who are in line at 6pm for the midnight movie in my costume. I loved this movie! It was 96% accurate to the book. While a few important pieces were left out, they can easily be put into the next two movies. The whole movie was such a dark and fantastic display of both raw talent and direction that I was literally on the edge of my seat... and I knew what was going to happen!

After a solid but not spectacular directing job on Order of the Phoenix I was cautiously optimistic about director David Yates' take on Half-Blood Prince, which was my favorite of the seven Harry Potter books. Sadly, after viewing Half-Blood Prince on opening night, I have lost the will to come back for the Deathly Hallows finale.
Yates and his screenwriter have successfully removed all of the excitement in their translation from novel to big screen. But more tragically, they have removed the sense of betrayal and tragedy from what was in the book, one of the most climatic and emotional scenes of all time.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
