The absolute best of the comic book movies made to date as well as the best overall movie I have seen in a long long time. Ledger's performance as the Joker lives up to all the hype. Dark with unexpected plot twits. Unlike earlier Batman movies, character motivation and development are fabulous. Only the second movie I will have to see a second time before the DVD becomes available.

Ok so I am not a comic book fan. My hubby drags me to every comic book movie, but this one I loved. Heath Ledger was amazing as the joker. I loved this movie. The acting, the special effects, everything. I would recommend this movie to anyone that asked me about it. You have got to see this movie, whether or not you are a batman fan. Heath Ledger deserves an oscar nod. He had me freaked out. GOTTA SEE.

An Excellent Sequel

It is a rare sequel these days that actually complements its predecessor but this film actually does that.
The fact that the person I went with actually said they though there was too much dialog made me think the better of it. "You mean it actually tells a story?" I said.
It does bring the story of the original forward and unlike the Batman films of old you do see why Batman became "The Dark Knight".
There is a complexity to Batman and his relationship to Bruce Wayne and the movie doesn't ignore that relationship, it builds on it at the same time it does a wonderful job of creating and coloring the Joker and manages at the same time to include realistically the rise and fall of Harvey Dent a.k.a. Two Face.
I don't like replacement characters and as well as Maggie Gyllenhaal does replacing Katie as Rachel Dawes I can't help remembering Katie Holmes and thinking of her performance so that is like the 1972 Penny from Somewhere in Time for me anyway.
It is a long movie for some but for me I never noticed how long it was. i was caught up in the story and enjoying that fact that they took the time to build on it rather than just shoot a bunch of action scenes and edit them together.
If you're a fan of movies that tell stories I think you'll really enjoy this film and the action and eye candy is all just frosting on the cake.
I look forward to the sequel, especially now that they have to use Batman in "The Dark Knight " role,more to the way he was written in the comics instead of the superhero the other movies made him.

the dark knight proved to be everything and more than I was expecting. There arent many movies which include better acting, fx, and script that this movie. Ready to see it again.

This movie was excellent....the story line, the special effects, the whole package was fab. Heath took the Joker to a new level of darkness....very edgy and bizarre. I thouroughly enjoyed watching each actor play their roles.
I don't know how they will top this one - but I look forward to the next Batman.......

Even people who are not Batfans will appreciate the story-telling, effects and brilliant performances. This film is serious, it's not a goofy portrayal of action heros, it really speaks to the questions of good and evil and how far we are willing to go when tested in spite of our moral code. Ledger is everything they have said. I only wish he was on the screen 100% of the time. Bale is great, Eckhart is brilliant, so is Morgan, Michael, Oldman, Chris Nolan really knows how to get a performance out of an actor - but we knew that about him. Oh and if it doesn't win best sound editing....a hugely impactful show and well worth every minute.

Went to see with husband and adult child. We all throughly enjoyed. We all went to see Batman Begins so we just had to see this one. Were completely taken with it. From beginning to end. Not a wasted moment of screen time. Could go on and on, but will just let the review title cover it all---EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!

This movie is, by far, the best movie of this year...and maybe the best batman movie ever!
I like the storyline, and of course, Heath Ledger was the man of this movie! with all due respect to Mr. Bale, Heath played the best performance of his carrer (sadly the last performance...)
I know it's too early, but Heath should be, al least, considered as a top nominee for the Oscar!!!

I used to enjoy the old batman tv show and movies. They were always good for a laugh or two but when Batman Begins came out I was hooked on Batman's darker side. Christian Bale is an incredible Batman. When I heard that there would be a second one I couldn't wait to see it. That was the most intense movie I have ever seen. I left the theatre with a stiff neck. It took you into the physicological side of both Batman and the Joker. You felt their pain, anger, love and disappointment. Heath Ledger was absolutely incredible!! There were times you forgot he was playing a part. He added so much to the character that we never saw in the Jack Nicholson version. He gave so many little quirks to this character. It was very sad to think that we will never see where this role could have taken this fine acter. He was just coming into his own. I feel he started with Brokeback Mountain. You saw his dark side. Prior to that his roles were just fun. I hope the academy will allow his family to enjoy an Oscar that he certainly diserved. This movie had something for everyone. Lots of emotion, action, the special effects were fantastic. Very exceptional filming. I only hope that there will be another to look forward to.

Okay, I know, corny review title, but it needed to be done.
This was one of the greatest movies I have ever seen, bar none. It went way beyond the action flick genre and did something else completely. This isn't your typical, cut and dried "kill the bad guy, save the day, ride off into the sunset" movie. It left you (or at least me) walking out of the theater discussing the darker side of the human condition. One thing to be aware of: this is not the Saturday morning cartoon Batman. Be careful about taking kids to see what is frankly a very disturbing movie. The same realism and grit that makes it amazing also makes it totally inappropriate for kids under a certain age and maturity level. Other than that, though, it's a huge win!

Dark and edgy, this is a good movie but not a great movie. Health Ledger and Christina Bale are great but the story line gets a little muddled.
It is heavy on special effects and how does Batman beat up the Joker and doesnn't leave a mark??
Fun movie but not a great one. It is, however, very worth seeing

The acting was above reproach. The Joker played a better character than I have ever seen in any of the other movies. At several places in the movie, the music drowned out the dialog but all in all it was great.

I don't have anything more to say than already has been said about this movie. It was a work of art. Christopher Nolan did not have to prove his genius after "Memento". But he did prove he is a genius no matter how much of a budget he is given. Bravo.
That said, please stop making Heath Ledger's role as the Joker a catalyst for his tragic death. Gary Oldman has confirmed that, between takes, Heath was not wallowing in the character he brilliantly created. He was a gifted actor who was given brilliant direction. Let's leave it at that and morn his too-short life. Stop weaving tabloid tales or continuing shameful marketing ploys.

I thought the movie was very well done. Great acting, sound, and costuming. The action was very intense and fast paced. It was a perfect date movie. That being said I also think it was appropriately rated PG-13 and a kid under 13 would probobly be overwhelmed by the intensity of the film. I would not recommend this for a child.

this is without question one of the best movies ever
everything was perfect, the plot, the characters, but the highlight was the joker who is what makes this movie so good. He is what made this such a dark movie, the things he did were beyond belief
you are either laughing at him or completley terrified of him

This was an uncompromisingly excellent movie. Christian Bale is outstanding as ever in his portrayal of Bruce Wayne and Batman, and the other actors did very well too. Collectively, they tell a great story, but it's probably too dark for young children.

Acting, story, visuals, action sequences, music...everything was phenominal. Heath Ledger out did Jack NIcholson as the Joker. My biggest regret with this film is that if there's another one Heath Ledger won't be around to play the Joker. He definitely steals the show. I will definitely see this movie again and highly recommend!!

Often when movies get the hype that this one did they are unable to live up. This is the exception. Amazing is the only word I can use to decribe the role of Joker. Heath, you should be proud! He was amazing. The story line kept me on the edge of my seat. I would pay the $9.50 again just to see it. It has been a long time since I was that entertained at a movie. GO SEE IT. You won't be disappointed.

Too dark, too violent, too long! Heath Ledger is terrific, but the story line is not compelling in any way. Special effects and actiion scenes are well done, as you would expect, but by the third hour (!), the viewer tires of all the crashes and booms.
Christian Bale is a suave Bruce Wayne, but as Batman he more resembles a poor man's Darth Vader, especially with that annoying breathy voice! Meanwhile, fine actors like Michael Cain and Morgan Freeman appear to be sleepwalking through their slender roles.
By the time it's finally over, the Dark Knight has deteriorated from dark and haunting to merely grotesque and annoying.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I too was caught up in the moment that was Heath Ledger...the drama the action the pure adrenalin. A great story and very gifted actors. I would not only recommend this movie to others I would recommend that it be seen more than once. The movie has depth if you are looking past the pure fiction and action. The audience was captivated. At one point you could actually see the audience almost jump out of their seats and quite a few comments were made during other scenes. I cried at the moment when Ledger said it seemed that he and Batman were destined to do this forever...what a shame that we will not be able to see the Joker wreak havoc in Gotham ever again!

I'm not a big action fan hero, but this one was well acted and produced. A good 2 and half hours of entertainment. Heath Ledger was a dynamic Joker... God rest his soul.
