Dark and brooding, it captures the true nature of "The Dark Knight" series. The action scenes are terrific and Bale's Batman is powerful and moving. The only flaw was the original Dark Knight would have killed the Joker at the end.

I wanted to like this movie but I found it much too long and all too dark. Maggie Gyllendal is so stiff she's like a corpse. There is no chemistry between her and either of her male co-stars. This lackluster love interest is the perfect example of how much this movie lacks passion.

Before this movie I had reached my limit with batman...They had just made too many bad movies about batman. But this one makes me want another Christian Bale movie!..He is so good as well as Heath Ledger who just became the joker.

This movie should be called TOO Long and TOO Violent Night. Thou I sincerely applaud the performances by all the actors, most especially Heath Leadger...very VERY well done. And I felt the actual story line was admirable,..the battle between good and evil etc. However, for me, the violence cancelled it all out. I mean way WAY too much killing/shooting. These are the kinds of movies that desinsitize people to real life murders and shootings. I was sick to my stomach by the time I left the theater. I really wanted to like it but overall I didn't.

AS ALWAYS THE DC COMIC MOVIES DIDN'T DISSAPOINT. LOT'S OF ACTION AND THE STORY LINE DID THREAD TOGETHER NICELY. MY ONLY APPREHENSION IS THE PG13 RATING. THE VIOLENCE AND SCENES THAT WERE IN IT WERE REALLY NOT MEANT FOR CHILDREN. PG13 STILL DOESN'T GIVE PARENTS THE RIGHT GUIDELINES TO MAKE A GOOD CHOICE. I SAW TOO MANY KIDS UNDER AGE 8 AT THIS MOVIE. THEY SHOULD HAVE LEFT SOME OF THE EDITED FILM IN THE MOVIE TO GIVE IT THE R RATING IT DESERVED.

This movie was by far the best of all the Batman movies ever made. Every actor played their Character exactly how they would have been in the comic. Heath Ledger was perfect in his role as The Joker. He had the look, the craziness and even the Laugh down. The only negative thing I would say about this movie is, that if you experience any kind of motion sickness or sensitivity to flashing light then beware. I found myself feeling a little sick after about two hours into the movie with all the effects. It is definitely worth it though. I say take a Dramamine and enjoy.

Most of the other review I've read pretty much capture my thoughts about the details of just how good this move is. That acting was superb all-around (which makes Ledger and Eckharts standout performances even that much more incredible) - the writing and story development phenomenal - by far the best movie I've seen in a long time.
For me the proof was displayed by how quiet a completely packed theater could be. More than once, when the action on the screen was at a very quiet point, you could hear a pin drop - the audience was that engaged. If nothing else convinces you - that should.
I will also agree with several of the other comments that this is NOT a movie for kids. It deals with very dark subject matter, and contains a lot of violence - both actual and implied (the implied is by far the more graphic!). That's not a complaint - it's all necessary for the story and fits well, just not suitable for kids.
Enjoy - it is truly the best movie of the year!

I had the pleasure of seeing this movie yesterday and let me tell you, it really lives up to the hype. Christian Bale, Michael Cain, and Gary Oldman were phenominal as usual. Heath Ledger's performance was absolutely amazing. As a fan of Jack Nicholason's portrayal of this same character, I was skeptical that Heath could pull it off. He did and then some! Very sad he will not be able to reprise his role.

The second chapter in Nolan's Dark Knight series -- one that riffs off a collection of DC comics that sought to reinvent Batman from a child's whimsical fancy into a real person with real hopes and dreams -- proves itself as worthy, if not possibly -more- worthy than his first film. Whereas the lack of any real "bad guys", which have always served as the true allure of the Batman books and films, ceased to really manifest in Batman Begins, here we have Heath Ledger's Joker as a very central character to the film. Missing is the back story to Jack Napier and his role in destroying Wayne's life, and rather the Joke is simply the Yin to Batman's Yang, the antagonist to the protagonists callings.
The reason this film roped in only 4 stars from me is quite simple. Firstly, I wanted to give it 4.5, but that wasn't an option as fa as I could tell. Secondly, I felt that towards the end (not the end itself), there were defect in the reformation of Harvey Dent's persona, and it somewhat broke the fourth wall for me. Nevertheless, the all-stars of Ledger, Oldman, and Bale make this film shine as one of the best to come out so far in 2008. I have seen it twice, and intend to see it again.

i was impressed by the Dark Night. it was very interesting. i enjoyed watching it. even though i am not a true batman fan this was very good. i would recomend this to freinds and family. this is the second batman movie i liked, but i did not enjoy the others besides this and batman and robin.

“The Dark Knight” – fabulous portrayal of psyche’s good vs. evil with Heath Ledger immortalizing the Joker archetype. Gives us 2 faces of the hero, not ony Batman/Joker but the crusading DA who ultimately succumbs to the dark side. But the higher ground triumphs in a scene of two ferry boats , one loaded with good the other with evil. Each given the mandate that one must blow the other up OR Joker will do blow them both up at midnight. Given the opportunity for the good side to kill off the bad side or the bad side to wipe out the good – neither does. Hurrah for mankind! Good may triumph but not just yet as Batman scapegoats himself to lift up the (DA’s) name for what he tried to do …because mankind is not yet evolved enough to go past blame and still needs a hero. All of which is …hooray for Holywood. People are devouring this film, seeing it 2,3,7 times. Lots of big scale action with little gore. Comic book violence superbly done.

Sure this movie is good, but how much of the stuff batman uses can really be used? Many of the things in the movie are fantasized. Some of the impossible things include the car, no amount of armor can resist a missile being shot at it, and hitting, the car came out without a scratch, another is his gliding wings, his suit and him added together are at least 300 pounds, and for him to glide like that (In Perfect Conditions) would be impossible.

This is the the type of movie comic book hero buffs have been waiting for. The Spiderman series was appreciated because they bulked up the story telling. However, much of the action was computer generated, which left you feeling short changed. Not so with Batman. So many of the stunts looked so real that you felt as though was possible to have something like this happen. Nolan ruined a very solid Batman Begins with the wholly unbelieveable Gotham elevated train scenes. However, he stuck to what was available in the streets of Chicago and didn't overenhance this time. The result is a visual masterpiece of action filmmaking. But that is not what took this movie over the top. It was the acting. Bale, Ledger, Caine, Oldman, and Freeman all brought their A games and it translated into some of the best chemistry ever seen in this type of movie.
Now pair the realistic scenes, great acting, crisp storytelling, and some sprinlkings of IMAX WOW, and you have the best comic book hero to big screen ever. If every comic hero from this point forward aspires to this level, summer blockbusters have just been redefined to a level its fans have been craving for decades!!!!

The film "The Dark Knight" was an amazing masterpiece. I had some problems with the fight scenes being a bit too flashy you could say but overall my experience was unbelievable. I have seen every batman film that was listed as a blockbuster and none of them come close to this film except for tim burtons "Batman". Within the first ten minutes after i had seen the joker played by Heath Ledger I was completely breathtaken by his performance. I said to a friend "he blew Jack Nicholson out of the water in the first scene". The joker was definately my reason for seeing the film and i was not dissappointed. Christian Bale had a very good performance but i believe he tries a little too hard as if it isnt something thats natural for him, for instance his voice he tries to give it his dark texture a little to furiously to give it a real style. The Jokers voice on the other hand was perfect and cynical and dark and funny and everything and more that is expected from the role of the greatest super villian in childrens minds today. I will never forget this movie and will definately be added to my collection. I hope Heath Ledger is given many post humous awards for such a captivating and most likely the greatest performance for a character i have ever seen.

I have to start off with saying again that Heath Ledger WAS this movie. Without Heath's acting I don't think this movie would've done very well. The story was mediocre, in my opinion, it didn't grab me. The cinematography and sound were good. I found myself yawning in all the scenes in which the Joker was not present, though. They could've edited out another 20 minutes of footage as well. The bright spots, for me, were Ledger, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine. Maggie, Aaron, and Christian I could've done completely without. Especially Aaron Eckhart. I love the guy as an actor but I couldn't absorb him as Harvey Dent or Two-Face, although Dent was a little more tolerable. I'd give the acting for Ledger an A+. The other three I enjoyed I'd give an A-. Everyone else falls around a C+/D- range in the acting category.
P.S. I can't stand the way Christian Bale gravels his voice when he's Batman. It seems so labored and artificial. I've heard this opinion from many, many others as well.

The Joker definitely made the movie. His evilness and sheer lack of compassion for others made this version much darker than any other Batman movie. It could have been shortened up some with extra parts of the movie taken out that really weren't needed. Overall though, I would recommend others to see it.
