I do not pay for movies very often. I am so glad I did for Avatar. It is spectacular. Beyond my expectations. I cheered & cried and clapped and went for the ride willingly. Simple story of good vs evil. Recommend highly...run to see this on the big screen!!!!!!

Obviously, it was a great movie and it should be for all the money they spent on it. The movie was very much tilted toward the still unproven Green theory of submit or the world dies. I'm sure the energy spent on this film will leave a carbon footprint from here to China and back. One more critical issue is that It made the antagonists unusually ugly and though they were not US military they all were greedy Americans' out to reak havoc. I wish once in a while Hollywood could be nice to the country that has made them millionaires.

From the point of view of a techie nerd, a filmmaker, businessman, and admirer of world culture, religion, and overall spirituality, this is easily one of the best movies ever made. Does it have an original storyline? Not exactly. But does it achieve its goal? Absolutely.

This movie was amazing, we couldn't get tickets for the 3D or Imax so we thought we were settling when we had to see the regular movie but man were we shocked!! Best movie I have seen in a long time, the special effects were INCREDIBLE!! It reminded me of an adult Ferngully.

Avatar is a representation of the operations that our militaristic government, which is controlled by the most financially profitable corporations, performs throughout the world (example: Iraq for oil). I am ecstatic that James Cameron has chosen to relay his message via a "major Hollywood production." The medium label of “boring documentary” dilutes most movies that carry such a profound message, by only appealing to a niche group of people that have already received their message. I know that Avatar is effectively reaching a diverse audience, and as a result more people are realizing that our consumer-based society causes unnecessary suffering in the world. Please consume less, so that others may at least have the bare essentials to live.

James Cameron has managed to digitally create an astonishing and visually stunning world that is a technological leap forward over any other film to date. While the plot is somewhat predictable, I found the characters relatable, with Zoe Saldana showing herself to be a rising star (albeit digitally acted). But the real superstar of the film is the world of Pandora and the overall experience you as a movie watcher get to feast upon.

I enjoyed it as I would a basic science fiction movie. It wasn't edge of your seat stress or action. It wasn't a movie where you could identify with the characters or even their situation much. The special effects were pretty good. The battle scenes were intense and fun. But overall, it wasn't the best movie I had ever seen. I would see it again and would recommend it. It's just entertainment - not a life changing event.

My children yelled at me as we drove home from Avatar because they felt they had lost three hours of their life. Words from these teenagers included: boring, no imagination, derivative, plodding, and stupid. I agreed. It was like staring into a tropical fish tank for 3 hours. Stock characters are expected in adventure movies and fantasies but these folks have zero dimension, personality, or history. Worst movie ever? Probably not. Worst adventure or fantasy ever? Yes.

I enjoyed this movie very much, but can't say it was the best I've ever seen. The plot was good; the visuals stunning; the 3d contributed but was not the primary feature. I didn't like the heavy-handed eco message. And James Horner usually writes an excellent score, but this movie wasn't set in Africa, and the main theme was very similar to Titanic--almost identical in places. It would've been nice to hear something original.

Have to see this in 3D because of the beautiful world that we are taken to. Was disappointed though by the simple, average story. What happened to the creativity there? Next time get someone from Japan to write it PLEASE, since I am sure there will be a sequel. I was also disturbed by smoking and swear words. Children were watching and it was NOT important for the plot in any way, shape, or form. This could have been another Star Wars but, plot was a big yawn! Was it just a remake of Dances With Wolves?! Sci-Fi lovers, I think, will be very disappointed by the loss of the possibilities it could have been!!!

This was, without a doubt, the best movie I've seen this year. I don't often give a movie a 5-star rating, but this is one that definitely deserves it. The animation, character and relationship development, the story, sociological view into a different world - they're all well done, intriguing, and spell-binding. I was drawn in and didn't want it to end. I never noticed it was a long movie. Captivating and moving throughout. (By the way, even my husband who doesn't watch sci-fi, enjoyed this movie!)

The CG is great. The story is Fern Gulley-meets Star wars. The film is beautiful to view and feels as though there are a lot of references to a native american prospective. I would not recommend for children under 13 ( mental age)

Avatar is a visual feast and one cannot fully process all of it in a single viewing. There are several plot lines that interweave to make a good story, including an excellent villain. I would have given this 5 stars, except the pacing dragged a bit in a couple spots. It's hard to critique the acting, because one minute, you're watching live actors, the next, you're watching digitally animated characters. Cameron was careful on the transitions between the two, which helps. If possible, definitely see the 3-D version for a better interactive experience.

I saw the 2d version and it was great - vivid colors, special effects, etc. Can't wait to see the 3d version though some say the 2d version allows you to appreciate some of the detail more, though obviously not the moving aspects.

Suspend your right brain and imerse yourself in the experience. Luckily only the front row was open for me and people kept leaving for better seats or for the next show. That put me close to the center in the front row. The imagery and accuracy of movements carry you into the film. The most lifelike computer animated imaginary creatures I have ever seen. The muscle definition, sweat, hair, imperfections were almost super realistic.

If you stay for the end credits, you'll understand why this is such a beautifully produced movie. Cameron must have singlehandedly solved the unemployment problem in CA. It is utterly amazing in design and technology. I do have to say the story was very basic, the characters typically Cameronesque, translate uncomplicated. But it wasn't a bad story, and they weren't wholly uninteresting characters, so ... all-in-all, I don't resent the money I paid to see it. Go to be taken away to somewhere you've never been before, for the eye candy; and don't worry about being mentally challenged. Save that for another day.

I originally thought I had to see this movie to get it out of my system, like 2012. Unlike 2012, I loved this movie and it was worth every penny to see it 3D at ArcLight. Although its the basic "Dances with Wolves" story, outsider gets to know and falls in love with the natives, Cameron takes it to the next level. The screen is incredible. This isn't paint a couple of CGI backgrounds. The entire world is created and looks seamless from the real characters, and that creates the world the film pulls you into. Awesome!!!

My family of six including 4 children went to watch AVATAR and it was a hit! The story line was moving and meaningful, although a bit shallow.
