I will try to be short - this movie is pure entertainment. Not all of it makes sense, but it hits the ground running and does not let up. You care about the characters even though you know that they will not die, and all of the major players (scotty, kirk, spock, uhura, etc ...) have enough of the original actors idiosyncracies that it is easy to buy into - not great art, but great fun. If all cheesy action movies were this good it would save hollywood.

Overall good movie. I would give it an A- . The - is for some moderately sub par acting performances. However, the story was cool and the special affects were fantastic. I would definitely recommend this film, I even want to see it again soon. Just don't go in thinking that it is going to be the coolest thing you've ever seen or you will be disappointed. However, I do feel that it was a much needed face lift for Star Trek and I am really excited about its future. I can see this being a terrific series.

If you have been a fan you know the pain and suffering of being let down by a Star Trek movie-- my friends, your pain is over-- we have one, ONE good Trek movie! I hope many more will follow. Quite good my friends. Go see it. Even if you aren't a trek fan, you will have a heck of a lot of fun, and guess what, you may become a trekkie yet.

This film was great. It does not take itself too seriously. It ties in to the original series well--A great start for a remake of a campy TV show. My only criticism would be that in many of the scenes the camera shakes so much you can't see what is actually happening. Way better than Wolverine. See it now...

What fun we all had! My husband and I are lifelong Trekkers, having watched from childhood and now having all the episodes on DVD. We raised our daughter on Star Trek, even. All 3 of us went to see this highly anticipated film and not one of us was disappointed in the quality of the film. The story line was compelling, the characters well developed, and there were little details that provided linkage to the past/future episodes. Any discrepancies we attributed to alternative reality! The CG was masterful! We will be seeing it again and purchasing it when it comes out in DVD.

This fast-pased, action-packed, character-driven film is a balm to this dedicated Star Trek fan--but is unbelievably accessible to those with no knowledge of the show. It's also FUNNY, well-acted, and well-directed.
I've seen it twice this week and will try it out in IMAX on Sunday. GO SEE IT!

I saw the movie tonight and have mixed feelings. Whereas I think the movie itself is very entertaining, I morn the death of everything I knew to be Star Trek. It seems that everyone entering a review believes its great to reboot the whole series - to change everything from what we knew before, but I believe its wrong to give a patient a new lease on life by killing everything he was before. So, I mourn the lost of a dear friend. My Star Trek is gone.

First of all hats off to J.J. Abrams for taking on such a tough movie, he risked making alot of die hard trek fans mad and alienating non fans. He pulled it off though mixing in enough of the old and new to creat a stellar movie. The fresh screen of actors was a pleasent suprise in a world dominated by big name actors. They pulled off their charcters with flare and stayed true to the original creations by Gene Rodenberry. The special effects were spot on and the story line gave a reason for a new perspective. It all tied in beautifully. Star Trek will be a hard beat this summer, but with other big action movies like Transformers and Terminator, it will be a knock down drag out fight.

I had not seen any Star Trek movies previously and had little knowledge about it, but it was much better than I had expected. In fact, it was amazing. The character development and plots were solid and acting was spot-on. I would expect anyone not familiar with Star Trek series to enjoy this because it nicely covers all the foundations without feeling dragged on. The movie is fast-paced and gets you into the action throughout the two hours, which I felt as if it were only an hour.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and anticipate on seeing more of it on sequels. One of the best movies I have seen.

This had to have been one of the best movies I've ever seen. Everything was explained very well, the actors were all amazing and there was a lot of great humor to help along the way. Perfect ratio of action and interpersonal conflict. You could actually believe this is how everything started out for the original series and still end up the same way. Just an overall amazing job. A movie I'll definitely be able to watch again and again. Already getting plans together to see it again during the week.

Star Trek 11(the new one): If you liked the other Trek series', than you probably won't like the new movie. If you have never seen any Trek, than you might like it. I have seen every Star Trek movie and episode. The new movie is not Star Trek.
The cast has potential but Abrams needs to go. If you want a director to take the franchise in a different direction, you may as well get Cameron.
What Abrams has done is to commercialize Trek so that it can be slapped on to a plastic lunch box, but in ten years, this movie will have faded and people will still download Blade Runner, 2001, and real Star Trek. Roddenberry is to Abrams as Mozart is to Salieri.

J.J. Abrams has succeeded with this movie series re-launch! While we can rest assured there will be some Trekkie's upset with what they will perceive as a rupture in the fabric of established Star Trek mythology ...most of us will be applauding Abram's achievement! This movie is fun to watch & I will go back for seconds (which I rarely do). The story, cast, cinematography, special effects, editing, pacing, sound & music is perfect! What fun to see a movie about such iconic characters breathe life back into them again! I counted at least 10 spontaneous eruptions of well-deserved applause. A perfect meld of nostalgia and the new. Beam yourself into this one as soon as you can. All of your atoms will be glad you did!

I grew up watching the Original Series, and have been following the making of this movie since it was announced. JJ Abrams & Company have done an amazing job of breathing new life into the Trek I Love. Pine, Quinto, & Urban inhabit these characters, and I can't wait to see their relationship develop in a sequel. Pegg creates a great Scotty, Yeltchin's Checkov is literally a Wizz, and Zoe is not only HOT, but a fully developed Uhura. This movie had a great balance of tension, & humor. The only part that fell flat for me was Kirks ham hands.
All in all...Thanks to Paramount , JJ & all for getting it right!!!

Good exciting movie. Very well done. I never watched the original TV shows, but I know the overall premise.
The movie stuck to the classic versions of the characters. Each character was nicely developed and allowed to express themselves. Example: "Im giving it all she's got, Captain" and "Da**it Jim, Im a doctor...." (sorry to star it out, but the admins wont let me use the actual word)
My only criticism is this: Too much Spock. The movie could have carried alternate plots but instead focuses very heavily on Spock.
Anyway, if you are a Trekkie, you will be very pleased. If you are not, you will still enjoy a fine movie.

I really enjoyed this movie! I'm not a really big trekke, but I'm a big nerd (I'm not afraid to admit it) and I REALLY REALLY liked this movie. I'm definitely going to buy this movie when it comes out on DVD, and I would recommend it to almost everyone who likes sci-fi books and/or movies. GO AND SEE IT NOW!!!!!

As a long time Trek fan I had reservations going in to see this movie. I can say now without reservation, they have created a hit that serves well for old Trek fans and opens the francise up to first time viewers. Even with the time premise from the movie a new Trek fan can enjoy all the other Trek movies in sequence without losing the story line. Although the earlier Trek films and especially the first will seem extremely dated now.

Great Movie in the finest of Star Trek traditions. The Spock and McCoy charecters were perfect for the parts. Glad they thought to include a spot for the original Spock (Spock Prime). Action filled from beginning to the end (or is it just the beginning?).

I have been a Star Trek Fan since the original series aired back in the 60s. I have seen every movie and every TV series. This was by the best Star Trek ever. I hope it will rejuvenate both the series and the movies. The cast was excellent and the special effects were amazing.

Awesome. I am not a Trekie, so I can't say whether it stuck to the original or not. But as a first time viewer, I was thouroughly entertained. It was very funny, had great special effects, great acting, and a good story. Even at 2 hours long, I wasn't really ready for it to end; I wanted to know what happened next! Now I want to go back and watch all the orignal stuff!

I loved this movie and will definately go to see it again! It helped me understand the personalities behind the beloved Star Trek characters I grew up with in the 70s. Our audience clapped, cheered and laughed everytime a character would say a familiar catch phrase or show a personality quirk we had grown to love over the years. Anyone that is a Trekkie will totally love this movie. Way to go J.J. Abrams you have made a winner!
