The good: The reinvention of the Star Trek universe. The effects and style of shots are very modern, with an upgrade on the teleporting fx and the way the ships "burst" into warp or the new way of destroying a planet. The actors filled their roles perfectly adn the story was very interesting.
The bad: Not much here, but they did overdo the dialogue references to the original series--especially with McCoy. The villian could have been explored a little more, perhaps if the filmmakers made the audience "feel" the agony of his great loss to sort of empathize and understand his madness.

The 2009 version of Star Trek is the best since the early days and the Wrath of Kahn. I didn't expect to enjoy it quite as much as I did, and the casting was perfect. An excellent movie, it kept my attention the entire time, and I recommend everyone take their kids to go see it!

Loved everything about it from the acting to the special effects! A must see for everyone who ever loved the old Star Trek series! It gave me goosebumps! Even the actors portraying Kirk, Spock, Bones, etc. had the mannerisms down pat. You really believe it's them. What a movie!!!

Well I am in the part of the population that saw this series on T.V. back in the 70's." I took members of my family ranging from 7-60 and everyone liked it. I myself was impressed at how Michael Bay introduced the characters with a new flare to the old cast members. Worth every minute and every penny.

I am a huge Star Trek fan, and so I wasn't so sure if they would be able to pull off another movie, especially with the failure of Enterprise. However, they nailed it. They explained discrepencies very clearly. It is an awesome movie and I would recommend it for other Trek fans and those who aren't so interested in Trek.

Abrams did a fantastic job rebooting the franchise. With exception of one flaw in the story it was very very well done. Action packed, funny, and visually stunning.
James T. Kirk is back with a vengeance and he's kicking butt and taking your woman.

It is so impossibly difficult to take something that has been so loved by so many people, reboot it, and come out on top. I think this movie has done it as close as possible. While the complaints of the timeline being brushed aside and Roddenberry's vision being destroyed may have some validity to them, I still think the movie was fantastic.
Special effects: phenomenal, though sometimes a bit much
Characters: Mostly spot on as possible (Scotty is the exception).
The movie was both serious and funny without one harming the other.
If you don't walk in with a serious mindset or preconceived ideas, you're going to love this movie, Trekkie or not. Amazing feat for writers, directors, and actors alike. Well done!

I fell Asleep during the movie... little plot, boring story line. Its saving graces include great visual effects & its consistency with the original series, but nothing else..... Save your ticket, popcorn, candy & soda money and wait for the DVD to be released.

One word. Incredible.
I'm not a Star Trek fan (in fact I use to think it was quite nerdy) but this movie was very badass. Great story flow, character development, and of course the action. The movie is 2 hours and some change but it goes so fast it feels more like 20 minutes.
GO SEE THIS MOVIE.

Great cast and script compliments the outstanding special effects. Longtime ST fans will love this movie, and all the inside jokes. The plot was good, and the character backstories were well done.

Great, flick with action packed sequences in the star trek mold. Most characters looked strikingly like originals. Time flew quickly while watching. Highly recommend STAR TREK.

This movie rocks on all cylinders, action packed from start to finish. JJ & crew bring THIS crew back to the big screen in the way they deserve. The writers pour their love of Trek into this script and it shows. Five hundred stars for this one....
Even my wife wanted to see this and loved it She doesn't like any of my shows with the word 'star' in it. And she doesn't like going to the theater for ANYTHING. If that doesn't tell you something, trust me, it means this movie will rule the box office and heralds many more awesome movies to come. Way to go and THANK YOU for such a great flick.

The old star treks have been destroyed in the same way 'batman begins' and 'the dark knight' erased the previous 4 batman flix. Enough nerdy nit-picky garbage people, this movie is the real deal. Maybe the best casting ever!(?) Intelligent with out being 'talky' and it was very quickpaced. Outstanding.

What an awesome idea to start an entirely new timeline to have all new stories in. This way die hard trekkies like me wont get upset as to what and what isnt historically correct. And at the same time opening up a whole new world for the next generation of trekkies. I loved all the characters and the story was great.

Although fimilar with the Star Trek Franchise, I am by no means a "Trekie" or even a fan.
With that said, this movie is AWESOME!!!!
I saw it with my wife and her son. Eveyone loved it. Action packed, great story, great effects, and the character protrails by relatively new-comers was great. It's funny too.
Only one or two (well placed) swear words, only a suggestive scene, nothing to worry about if you have kids. Even the "violence" is OK, no gorry visuals or other unnecessary filth that has ruined far too many a movie in the past.
Go see this movie. People cheered in the begining and applause at the end.

I was skeptical that Star Trek could be revisioned with the same characters and a new cast, but Abrams proved my skepticism to be unfounded. A great Star Trek film for Trekkies or newbies alike. It's been a long time since I've been to a movie where the audience applauded at the end. Go see it!

I'm a Trekkie and this movie got my money's worth! The trailer was right: this movie is not your father's Star Trek. Abrams took this movie into another level than Roddenberry's version. The characters were outstanding, but Scotty needed more screen time than the rest. Action, drama, romance, and comedy were all in this movie. And there are some short story lines that we didn't expect in the original tv or movie series combined. A lot of special FX, but the plot was the main focus which it held very well. Go see this movie!

JJ Abrams and company deserve all the credit in the world! The story is perfect for a reboot of the series and all important the casting is just terrific. Dr. McCoy to me really steals the show when he is on screen...but everyone pays homage while still giving each of them a modern slant.
This is a GREAT movie not good GREAT...It IS a must see for trek fans and non trek fans alike. It is what the last 3 star wars movies should have been

The movie was mostly good, definitely a lot of eye candy. Two things bothered me, though. 1) why didn't the people of Vulcan and Earth just shoot down the drill once it dropped into their atmospheres? 2) it took too long for the bad guys to explain their motivation on why they were after Spock/the Vulcans/the Federation. Also, if time-travel loops make you crazy, prepare yourself for time-travel talk in this film... Otherwise, it was a decent movie with likeable characters.

I've been a Trekie since a child watching the original series in my dad's lap. Then grew up watching all the offshoots, and movies (Next Generation, Deep Space 9, Enterprise). I was told before hand a Trekie wouldn't enjoy the movie....they were WRONG! Star Trek was the best movie I've seen in the last two years! Excellent job in all areas of the movie.

Great space opera, actually has a plot, but most important, builds depth to the original Star Trek characters, while honoring past episodes. A must see, even if you never heard of Star Trek. For a Trek fan, well, once is not going to be enough.

As a (proud to say) Trekker, I was looking forward to seeing this movie, and although some of the outcomes drastically change some known Star Trek history (which will disappoint ardent fans), This movie is a well done production with plenty of action, adventure and humor.
