Worth taking in

Having been a Trek fan since the original series (not in reruns) I think they did a credible job with the characters. Don't expect a seamless story line from series to movie - enjoy the show.

The movie was awesome. The characters were interesting and the story was engaging. JJ Abrams found a way to honor the source material while still creating a unique vision of the Star Trek universe. Can't wait to see it again in IMAX.

J.J. Did a GREAT JOB

I think J.J. Abrams did a great job. The special effects were great! The actors portraying the main characters were very good. Chris Pine I thought looks like Shatner when he was young and Zachary Quinto looks so much like Leonard Nimoy, especially with the ears on. I also thought that Karl Urban did a great job as Bones. I guess you can say I really enjoyed this movie. And I recommend it for anyone that loves Star Trek, and SciFi. Congrats JJ and the writers - Roberto and Alex.

Excellent Way to Begin the Summer

I am an original Star Trek Fan. I feel that this film did justice to the original series and characters. The acting was great the story action packed and the graphics awesome. A wonderful diversion and great entertainment.

Better than 95% (by actual count) of the old timers in my group love this movie. I want to see it again and again. It treats original Trek with love and respect while freeing this movie series from having to keep to the canon by making it a parallel universe. And they do it so well that it's fine by me. I love every scene with Nimoy, again done with love and respect and humor. The new cast reinvent and own their characters wonderfully. The new bridge is logical and beautiful, with traditional elements. The corridors are light and interesting. The engine room actually looks like a working engine room. The amount of action is eye-popping and will keep all generations of fans glued to the screen. Two thumbs up to JJ Abrams and the cast!

A well put together cinematic experience, well balanced with humor, special effects, a little love story and the Capt. Kirk character was great! Chris Pine ( I think that is the actors name) is a cross between Mel Gibson and Brad Pitt. The appearance of Leonard Nimoys Spock was a fun treat and made the Audience gasp. I never see movies twice but I think I ll take my Son to see this film. Overall, it was a good ride, and well worth my time on a Saturday Night.

A Great Revival!

I was a little hesitant about seeing this movie, but I was pleasantly surprised. This movie was a wonderful "new" start to a magnificent franchise. Abrams pays homage to the Gene's original vision while expanding it for a new 21st century generation. I'm already ready to see Star Trek 2.

Star Trek proved to be about all I could have expected from the movie. It had action, humor, and emotional weight.
I had anticipated this movie since the first preview, and it dished out all I could take. This new crew packs a serious punch. I'm excited for any future sequels they have on the docket. This could be the movie of the summer.
The best Star Trek movie of them all.

Breathing new life into an old standard.

Takes the best attributes of a classic and marries it with a capable and marketable cast. The result is a very watchable/accessible film that will have broad appeal, and also have a cult following of sorts, though it won't be the same cult that followed it's predecessors.

listen, what can I say about this... they tried to remake an American classic, and came up a little short. If this movie was an original concept, I'm not sure I would say if it was even this good...
shaky story, flimsy characters, but good special effects.
best part of the movie... Leonard Nimoy
I'm sure this movie will make a zillion dollars and spawn sequel after sequel, but really, was it any better than the last 3 Star Wars? and look how much abuse they took from critics...

I loved the new Star Trek movie especially how they did the character development and plot. Seeing as how they made an AR (alternate reality) that frees things up to make more movies hopefully with much of the same cast. I'd like to see where it goes from there.

When I first heard of this flick I had my reservations. Especially since I am a fairly moderated Trek fan in that although I know a lot about the movies and series, I am not a die hard fan. However I thought, "really, retelling the whole thing from scratch"? But I was wrong, this movie has something for everyone. This movie was great! The casting was outstanding as well as the acting and script. I wish all you trekkies would relax. This movie is an alternate reality from the series, so chill out and let it play out by itself. Quite over analyzing every nuance and just sit back and enjoy the ride. I get sooo tired of all the whining. Go see it again and pretend it's all new to you. It really is a great story, one Gene R. would be proud to be a part of.

Best Star Trek Movie So Far

I was worried they would screw this up like the last Superman movie. I'm an original series fan & didn't know if it could be as good as much less BETTER than - but it was FANTASTIC! And I don't know if he was SUPPOSED to be, but Spock is SEXY! I have an old lady crush on him! He switched places with Kirk on the hot-o-meter! This movie had quite the daunting task of pleasing modern day movie goers plus the trekkie nerds PLUS the old time fans. GREAT JOB EVERYONE. One questions... WHEN'S THE NEXT ONE COMING OUT??

Fast-paced! For those Star Trek fans, you'll catch many quirks and expressions from the original cast. Stayed true to the original and filled in a lot of history. Probably the best of all the Star Trek movies. Loved it!!

Was not a huge fan of Star Trek, but hubby is so went. We both loved it. The action was great, the special effects were great also. I think kept good with the original series so all were happy. Would go see again and recommend even if not a big fan like me. Loved it.

I am hoping that I've heard correctly: (at least) two more Star trek movies are going to be filmed. If it is true, count me in.

Star Trek had all the elements of a great sci-fi action movie, and while not the most innovative of stories, it was definitely satisfactory and fun to watch. The actors who played McCoy and Scotty stole the show, and those who played Spock and Kirk held your apt attention.

A few things were slightly off. The romance was kind of awkward, and there was the unrealistic aspect in certain scenes (characteristic to any action film), but none of it really took away from the movie.

Definitely enjoyable. You may or may not be reflecting deeply on it afterwards, but you will be thinking: "That was cool!"

More action than all the Star Trek movies combined. Witty dialogue. Wonderful casting. Humor with winks and nods to classic Trek moments. It even has a plot that makes sense and reasonable explanations for events. The look of the technology appears sleek with a mix of classic design and modern functionality.
You don't have to be a Star Trek fan to enjoy this movie. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face when you leave the theater.

Wasn't too excited getting there 45 min early and waiting behind 100 people in line but this movie was totally worth it. The cast is amazing and the one line zingers were so funny. I have already seen Star Trek twice this weekend, IMAX and non; all I can say is THANK YOU Paramount for putting Trek in the hands of JJ Abrams. Seeing the re-birth of Star Trek literally brought tears to my eyes through out the whole film. The operatic feel here and the there, the sense that this is definitely a cast that "clicks", the nods to classic Trek both audio and visual, just one heck of a great film! I can't wait to see it again! And if the MC at the IMAX presentation is correct, we will have TRUE IMAX sequences for the sequel! Boldly GO!

A Good Time

J.J. Abrams got it right. This movie drives the Star Trek franchise into a direction that should appeal to a diverse audience. The prequel approach was an excellent vehicle for moving away from the staid "trekkie" genre, to a mainstream production. While easily identifiable (sometimes comedically), the new cast brought a fresh and more realistic feel to their characters. The special effects are leading edge and absolutely spectacular. Hard core trekkies may feel slightly betrayed and disappointed that their years of keeping abreast have been wiped away in one fell swoop. This is the new beginning of Star Trek. I look forward to the sequels.

Great Movie, but many holes in the script

The movie was for the most part great and the characters were casted well. However, I found numerous things that were impossible to understand or make sense of. Like how did Kirk know so much about a ship he barely had time to become familiar with and then win a battle with an experienced enemy with a more advanced ship ? Or if Scotty could transport onto a ship going a warp speed, how come it wasn't shown in the "original Star Trek" since that took place later in life. And how could Spok as a young man have a conversation with himself as an old man in the same time and space ? I found Spok too emotional. The other reviewer is right. This Star Trek is great, but nullifies earlier Star Treks.

A straightforward action movie that satisfies like a cold drink on a hot day. A good, but not great film. Probably too ambitious in filling in the back-story, plus developing a plot, to really develop the characters. So the resources of the movie were stretched a little thin. But what can you do in two hours, given the 40+ year history of the Star Trek franchise? Probably the best film that could have been made given all the constraints. Really good casting and special effects.
