The "alternate time line" part of ST will leave a few die-hard trekkies less than pleased, but to me the characterizations were my focus. In short, the actors ALL nailed their roles. When the young "Bones" feferred to a departing Spock as "a green blooded Hobgoblin", I could hear Deforest Kelly saying vertually the same line. Young Chekov's difficulty with English had me rolling in the Isle. The only disappointment for me was Uhura. She just wasn't Nichell Nichols. Chris Pines cocky, arrogant "Kirk" was dead on. The action and effects were top notch. Good show...

What an incredible movie!
I grew up on Star Trek, my mom used to watch it all the time!
I went to go see it with her today and it was amazing!
Seeing the crew so young was really neat and the special effects were incredible!
I hope they make another one!

What a thrill ride this movie is. It's non-stop action, but plenty of quality character development as well. Just a couple nit-picks, but nothing to spoil the entertainment! I highly recommend this movie, whether you're a Trek fan or not.

Trek 'purists' may be a bit put off by the alternate timeline theme, but it gives Abrams & Co. the creative freedom to boldy take the franchise where it has never gone before. It took a while to warm up to the new cast's portrayals of our familiar heroes (& heroine), but, by the end of the film, the characters were sufficiently well-presented to launch a sequel. IMHO, Karl Urban was the best of the trio as a somewhat more eccentric "Bones" McCoy. All in all, this was a great re-imagining of the Trek universe. If you avoid the pitfalls of conventional Treklore, you will really enjoy the story as it is told from a fresh perspective.

This was an awesome movie--both for Trekkers and those who are totally new to Star Trek. The special effects were amazing! Zachary Quinto was excellent as Spock, maintaining the original enigmatic charisma that defined the character while still managing to make it his own. Chris Pine was also great as Kirk--infusing it with an infectious energy and sense of fun that complemented the tone of the movie perfectly. This movie definitely delivered!

This was a great movie, lots of interesting plot, cool characters and spot on special fx. I am not a big Star Trek fan in general, and this is really the first Trek movie I've watched all the way through, but this got me interested in the series.

WOW! This was an on the edge of your seat, action packed movie, very well put together movie. They got really clever with the twists they threw in. I was thrilled that it was so well done and I thoroughly intend to go back and see it again.

i'm a long time fan of the first star trek series
watched all the star trek movies and this was one of my favs, i liked how they tied it to the original series that i grow up on in the 60's.
i didn't like that they killed off spock's mother,
because she was in the original series. that was the only mistake.

Watched it at a fork and screen theather it was a great experience all the way around. It made me laugh thinking about all the comparisons to the original Star Trek. They could not have picked a better Spock. I would recommend this one to anyone who like Sci-Fi movies even if they never saw the original.

Was great as a "stand alone" movie, but being familiar with the various series & movies had mixed reaction. For the most part it portrayed the original characters accurately, but the young Spock character was uncharacteristically "un-Vulcan."
I do see the potential for high caliber future motion pictures and even a possible TV series, perhaps even exploring how some some of the original events may have played out differently as a result the events related to the changing history.

It was fantastic. It was the best Star Trek Movie ever. I've been a fan since the original series, and I was afraid they would screw this up. But, I am delighted to tell you that they absolutely nailed it! I want to see it again. Yes, you could quibble about a few liberties they took with the overall Star Trek mythology, but I forgive them since they did such an awesome job.

The new Trek is full of win! J.J. Abrams may, in fact, completely revive the franchise. They couldn't have picked a better cast for this - from Zachary Quinto as Spock, to Karl Urban's spot-on inflections and demeanor as McCoy. In-jokes, brilliant action sequences, and superb writing - this is a film any Star Trek fan will love!

This is two hours of highly polished, loud, fast paced entertainment. The acting if fine. (Winona Ryder puts more emotion and real feeling into her ~1 minute on screen that the rest of the cast in the whole movie.) The writing is able and sometimes clever. The idea that the circumstances of this plot create a new time line in which events will be different from previous ST stories is a nice device, and certainly useful for creating subsequent movies.
I will not see this movie again. Fun though it was, it presents nothing to think about or remember after it ends. For this reason it is less science fiction than a Saturday morning cartoon fantasy story with glossy, high-tech trappings.

This was the best star trek movie I have seen. Having watched the series through all the variations this captured the essence of all the characters. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys action adventure/sci fi.
My only thought was why they killed off a character's mother since she was alive in the previous movies. A must see.

This is a fantastically great restart to the whole Star Trek Franchise! Great Action from beginning to end! Different look and a bit of a different feel from the other movies, but that's probably what was needed to re-invigorate the Star Trek franchise. If you are a Trek fan, I think you'll like this if you aren't I think you'll become one!

This was a brilliantly written and executed film, with plenty of TOS nerd goodies, and more than enough to keep the noobs excited.
The casting was impecable, aside from Uhura, played by Zoe Saldana, who is more than acceptable for obvious reasons. Even though 'The Shat' doesn't make it into this film we get a cameo from everybody's favorite Vulcan.
As a film lover and a Trekker, I highly recommend this film to anyone looking for an overall amazing cinematic experience.
Look out for the sequel...

Faithful, captivating, exciting and touching.
I have always loved Star Trek. This movie clearly showed me that this timeless story of the USS Enterprise will be told forever - for generations to come. This movie in particular is exceptionally good - perhaps the best of them all.
