Entertaining fluff

This is two hours of highly polished, loud, fast paced entertainment. The acting if fine. (Winona Ryder puts more emotion and real feeling into her ~1 minute on screen that the rest of the cast in the whole movie.) The writing is able and sometimes clever. The idea that the circumstances of this plot create a new time line in which events will be different from previous ST stories is a nice device, and certainly useful for creating subsequent movies.
I will not see this movie again. Fun though it was, it presents nothing to think about or remember after it ends. For this reason it is less science fiction than a Saturday morning cartoon fantasy story with glossy, high-tech trappings.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
