It's a little formulaic, but Robert Downey Jr. is great. There's actually more to this movie than special effects. Not a whole lot more, but enough to keep it interesting.

I rank Iron Man second only behind the first Spiderman for the Marvel comics franchises. Robert Downey, Jr. is excellent as Tony Stark, as was Toby McQuire/Spiderman. The blend of action, suspense and comedy is perfect. The only flaw was the final battle betwen good and evil, a little weak and too comic-bookish. However, be sure to stay through the closing credits for the final scene!

Iron Man is a great super-hero flick, but be warned, it is not appropriate for young kids. Realistic war violence, a torture scene, and the (off-screen but clear) murder of hostages all add up to a film that will disturb some viewers under 12. Take the PG-13 seriously.
That said, it is one of the classic super-hero movies, right up there with the best of the Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman franchises. Robert Downey Jr. is perfect as the playboy Tony Stark, and the super fights and action are all well done.

I was contemplating giving this movie 4/5 stars; then I remembered that it was a bit over 2 hours long. Honestly, it does not feel nearly that long. The movie is a perfect mixture of great action scenes and solid plot elements to keep one very interested throughout.

This movie has a bit of something for everyone. From the well-placed comedic relief throughout the movie (most of which is Downey's having complete fun with his character) to the rip-roaring explosive action brought by the larger-than-life hero.
They spend a good portion of the movie introducing both personalities of Tony Stark, the carefree billionaire, and the engineering genius. Downey not only manages to play both these sides to a tee, he the steps it up an entire notch in the latter half of the movie, when we see the actual Iron Man character come to life.
Throughout this, Gwyneth Paltrow interjects some great character interaction between "Pepper" Potts and Stark, both in friendly and business banter, and a romantic undertone. Downey and Paltrow both play their respective characters well off of each other.
As to the action, we've all seen CGI improving over the last few years, allowing some of our greatest comic book heroes to come convincingly onto the big screen. Iron Man is no different, and in fact, seems to improve on the digital effects to add even more to the character in full digital renderings. However, even when Downey himself is actually donning a suit for the camera, it looks so incredibly similar to the CGI rendering that you could almost believe such a technological wonder is actually possible.
For the comic book buffs that may have seen the animated movie that came out a couple years ago, you will probably see much of the same thing for the first hour. You will not be bored with it, though, the fresh take with current events and settings of conflict make subtle but important changes, as well as the captures of characters live actors can do that cartoon animations can never provide.
As was mentioned, be sure to stick around after the credits. It doesn't just spell sequel... it opens the door for something that is possibly even better.

Robert Downey Jr. may seem an unlikely actor to come to the big screen as a comic book character Tony Stark aka Iron Man but he pulled it off. His comic timing, soulful eyes and own personal off screen rise from the ashes made him very believable.
Iron Man rocked onto the screen with great special effects and the suit is awesome. Can't wait for the sequel.

This movie had the potential to be really bad, but it was exactly the opposite. Downey's character was extremely effective, though the other characters paled in comparison... the bad guy never really got off the ground. All and all highly recommended, clever and a good time.

Overall the movie was alot of Fun. Robert Downey Jr., Jeff Bridges,,,,,,,etc very believable. The Action Sequences were awesome as were the special effects. The Movie stayed fairly close to its comic book roots. The only negatives were length and build up. They both took to long. The story could have been just as good and under two hours. All in All it was a very good start to the summer movie season.

As an avid comic reader and comic book show watcher, I would have to say they brought it home with that one. Kept to the original story line, picked the right actors for the parts (I was surpised by R.D.J, but he makes a wonder Tony Stark.
The story was a little slow for some, but in my opinion many comic based movies, gloss over the finer details too much, and sometimes leave non comic book readers oblivious to the intricacies of the the characters, that took year to develop in the original comics.

Iron Man is probably the best made superhero movie to date. They really took their time introducing the cast and the movie started to flow from then on. I did not expect the movie to be so detailed. I can't wait for the second Iron Man movie it will be off the charts.

I was riveted from the very first scene of this movie. Robert Downey Jr. was amazing - his best role to date. The script was PERFECT for his delivery - dead pan dry wit and all. My only criticism is that Pepper Pots' character was kind of weak - kind of took away from the tone of the whole movie - too cutesy and sometimes seemed helpless. Maybe Gwyneth just wasn't the best fit for this role. The special effects were fantastic - totally believable - didn't look cgi in many places at all. Stark's robotic assistant provided great comic relief - i was reminded of the Johnny 5 from "Short Circuit". I will definitely see this movie again - and will buy on DVD as soon as it's available! The origin story of Iron Man couldn't have been told any better than this!

I would have rated it PG-13 because of the adult content at the beginning of the movie.. If you have grade school children in whom you would like to preserve innocence for a while...skip this flick.

Wow. How awesome is it to see Robert Downey Jr kicking so much butt and getting the spotlight he deserves. He really makes Iron Man special. It stands out from a lot of the comic book films because the humor is just right, and the superhero is just a guy, with no superpowers. The action sequences are great, and the actors are all top notch.

This is a really good fim. Downey is exceptional and the supporting cast compliment his talents well. Great action scenes! Could have done without the very brief love scene at the beginning especially for a Marvel movie that lots of kids will see. We wanted more Iron Man and less story backline but was needed as most, like me, don't know the story of Iron Man. Overall I give it a solid A. Probably not a good film for girls under 13 unless they really enjoy action films.

Story, acting, music, sound effect, and visual effects were all great!

This is a great beginning to a franchise that I am sure will go far. Robert Downey Jr. was the perfect casting for Tony Stark and I can not see nobody else who could have embodied the true character that is Mr. Stark.

This was, quite simply, the best comic to movie adaptation I have ever seen. Sure, it had it's predictable moments, and sure it was larger than life and your suspended disbelief needed to be in full swing for it, but the bottom line is that this movie was entertaining as all get out.
After seeing his performance, Robert Downey, Jr. has to be the guy they wrote this for. His performance was inspired.
