The Runaways is a Runaway Success!

Everything about The Runaways is "spot on". It is the dark, gritty, textured story of the "first girls of hard rock" ....told in an unfiltered, unglamorized, organic way by director Sigismondi. We can see why they needed be born from a place where they needed to escape from. Rock & Roll was their life preserver, their CPR and their pathway to dreams, freedom and art! The story is not always easy to watch but here it so well told that we appreciate the journey of Jett & Carrie as they "plow into" and "create" a new world. Kudos to Stewart & Fanning who do great service to their acting careers in this fascinating bio-epic!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

RepoMen is Worth Your Movie Watching Investment!

From critical reviews this film is either liked or detested. I fall into the former category and enjoyed the original premise and "snaking" plot from start to finish. Even though the twist ending was alluded to early on it still surprised me ....and I always like surprises in a science fiction flick of this type. I admit to having low expectations re RepoMen from several negative reviews I had seen from professional critics ....and this may have enhanced the positive experience overall. Worth a theater viewing or at least a Net Flix rental.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Criminally Un-funny ....Skip it!

Too long, too few laughs, too little chemistry between Butler & Aniston (on screen at least), too predictable, too much effort in trying to paint Butler's character as a man's man (he's a slob, a chauvinist, he's vindictive, he's reckless). With all of his manly "bad" traits where do we find the magical spark between he and his ex-wife Aniston? We don't! A very weak movie made even worse by stretching out the length and re-playing the same scenes over & over & over & over (you get the picture) again. Butler needs a bigger challenge in roles and Aniston really needs the same.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Creation Lacks A Spark!

Acting is superb. Cinematography is excellent. Dialogue is decent. We all know the basic plot and the controversy of the day regarding "The Origin of the Species". The problem here is the slowness, the repetition and the lack of anything absorbing. There is the relationship between Charles Darwin and his eldest daughter Annie - but that is about it. I simply felt bored most of this movie. Adding to the boredom was the director's penchant for flipping back and forth in time - often to the detriment of the flow of the movie. The sequencing became confusing and it lost me a couple of times. You can skip this one and not lose your spot in the evolutionary scheme of things.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The Action is Red Hot in Green Zone!

As a fictional, suspense, mystery, action flick Green Zone gets 5 stars ....and so does Matt Damon. The "herky jerky" documentary style camera works throughout this movie - adding to the heightened sense of urgency. The only negative is the political propaganda that is the basis for this fictional war movie. I can separate the propaganda from the movie but could not help thinking that many others will not do this ....many will not want to do it ....and many will "assume and authentic historic premise" - even though there is no factual premise such as the one at that heart of this film. See it for the quality & entertainment but remember that it is fiction.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Take an Amazing Trip w Alice down the Rabbit Hole!

Tim Burton and his detailed, imaginative, alien "brain" have done it once again! His best work in many years! The color, 3D and IMAX all enhance the outstanding visual canvas that Burton paints his grown-up tale of Alice for us on. Kudos to all involved including Burton's stock actors Depp & Carter. This tightly orchestrated adventure is every bit as accomplished as Avatar and will leave the whole family smiling like a "cheshire cat". Ignore your inner "Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum" - hurry down to the tea party at your local cineplex - quick like a rabbit - and expand your "muchness"! Wonderland is like a candy store for Burton and he lets us all come along for the ride!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Forget "Fine" - Mediocre At Best! Rent or Skip!

Hard to believe you can create a cop movie starring Gere, Cheadle, Hawk & Snipes ....and end up with something much less than the sum of it's parts .....yet it happens here! There are moments & scenes that are really good but they are "sailing" in an ocean of mediocrity and the ship begins to sink under the weight of stereotype, weakly developed motivations, strained dialogue & an overly heavy directorial hand. It is more boring and incredulous in this film when the characters threaten violence and use intense language (way too much "F" word here)...than believable and ominous. A clumsy attempt to re-create "Crash" as a gritty, urban cop drama. Skip or rent.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The White Ribbon Earns A Blue Ribbon - See it!

Imagine sitting in a crowded movie theater watching a Black & White, German-speaking sub-titled movie, with absolutely no music score in the background, very sparse dialogue .... for 2 1/2 hours .... and you could hear a pin drop the entire movie .... and no one leaves their seats! What the heck is happening to hold us all so entranced? Director Haneke has created an unusually stark film that captures the historical mood of the period within a small Germanic town that is rife with mystery, impending tragedy, quiet desperations of many kinds, an aura of male control to the point of abberation .... and, of course, the beginnings of WW I. Should be an Oscar winner.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The Ghost Writer is a Triumph of Suspense & Story!

128 minutes fly by in this taught suspense thriller by movie master Roman Polanski. There are not many writer-directors that can craft a movie with this much complexity and hold our rapt attention throughout. Polanski succeeds in doing just that. The music, cinematography, dialogue, pacing, acting ... and the story itself .... are all perfection - or nearly so. McGregor, Brosnan, Cattrall, Williams allowed us to forget their "star personas" and fully inhabited their characters. What a joy it was to see Eli Wallach in his small but critical role. Kudos to everyone involved. Loved the ending! Oh - if only all movies could aim for this level of entertainment! Too bad there is not a "ghost of a chance" of that happening!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Cop Out is a Wipe Out - Skip it!

Very disappointing cop buddy comedy flick. It was if some off-season Saturday Night Live cast & crew got together and decided to stretch out a funny cop skit into a movie, called Bruce Willis to see if he had the time to add a bit of "heft" .... and then "slapped some jokes together" ..... and just "blenderized" the whole thing hoping that the finished product would be something worthwhile. It's not. Many of the people involved in this "cop out" should be "arrested" for "pretending to be funny enough" to invest 110 minutes of our lives and $20 of our hard-earned movie money. "We was robbed!"
No, I do not recommend this movie.
