After all the great clips on U-Tube (including the treller for this; including original interviews with the original owner; including complete shots of all 3 races), I got really hyped up to see the movie. Not a bad story line, but I would have liked more contrast of a perfect horse in Paris, Va., with a perfect horse's a--, about 100+ miles to the east at W., DC. You remember who was President, then, don't you? The Daughter's hippie counter-culture scenes were weak. Couldn't someone advise on the real Colorado hippie scene? (Think John Denver, not Loving Spoonful). Except for the Chevy truck, the cars shown were rather dated for 1973. At least it was shot on location instead of the back lot of Warner Bros., like the Dukes o' Hazard. Acting by the stars around Secretariat carry this movie.

This is a well written story based on actual events. Many of us know the name Secretariat, but I had no idea of the various stories behind him becomming a triple crown winner. It is well acted and the photography brings the viewer right into the emotion and action.

Although Diane Lane's perforance was terrific, as a lifelong horseracing fan, I was disappointed in the movie. It was too "Disney"....the horseracing scenes of Secretariat were so obviously staged and the behaviour of the other jockeys was so unreal and phony, it comes across as a good "made for tv" movie. I didn't like Malkivich's portrayal of trainer Lucien Lauren. The calls of the races were poor...they should have had Trevor Denman from Santa Anita do them. In a nutshell....good movie for the Hallmark Channel....sorry.

Overall, the movie was very good. I especially enjoyed the racing sequences. The camera angles and technigues that were used really added to the overall suspense and allowed you to actually feel what it would be like to be a jockey. I felt the performances by the actors were very good, especially Diane Lane and John Malkovich. Although, I wouldn't rate the movie quite as high as Seabiscuit, it was still very enjoyable and I recommend it.

Story is extremely engaging with a good pace keeping a known "sports event" fresh. John Malkovich underplays his part perfectly. Diane Lane is perfect, but this role does not require the reach appropriate for an Academy Award despite the early mentions for her. If you go to the movies to have a good time, don't miss this one.

Coming from a home with boyhood memories of having a statue of Man O War on our fireplace mantel (my dad was nuts about horse racing), I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I've got to see it again! The footage and audio was fantastic showing the brute power these thoroughbreds expend and the obvious risks the jockeys take pursuing their occupation. The story of the family and owner of Secretariat revealed that there was at least one more "thoroughbred" involved in this story; a tip of my hat goes to the real Ms. Tweedy. I would be interested in hearing from the family about how near to reality the movie story line actually came. The acting and casting were perfect. It was also refreshing to view a movie in which I cannot remember hearing one cuss word. More such inspirational movies are sorely needed from movie producers.

Even though we knew the outcome of the movie, the race scenes were exciting. The movie gives the 'behind the scenes look' at the story, as any good movie or book should. Our 10 year old (who had no clue who Secretariat was) absolutely loved it. If you enjoy the whole 'Kentucky Derby atmosphere' you will love this movie. One of those movies that brings a bit of nostalgia for a couple of hours. And in this day and age who doesn't need that from time to time. Definitely need to see this on the big screen.

I saw Secretariat run twice. He was truly a horse from another planet. As an owner and breeder of racehorses, I naturally rushed to see the film, accompanied by my horse-hating brother, who loved it. It's exciting, inspiring, and great entertainment. And it pretty much gets it right about these noble equine athletes and the people who spend their lives around them.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I loved this movie! John Malkovich, Diane Lane, and whomever played the secretary (Mrs. Hamm) were all WONDERFUL! I highly recommend this movie....LOVED THE HORSE and the story (even though I was familiar with what happened).....The music, the scenery, the acting were fantabulous. The only thing I wish they would have noted in the end is that when Secretariat died, they found he had an abnormally large heart (something like 22 lbs) and could have been the reason he actually got faster on longer distances.....AMAZING horse......Beautiful Animal!

Fabulous movie! A movie for the entire family, and a must-see for every horse lover. Diane Lane, as usual, was wonderful. Knowing that Penny provided the details makes it even more exciting--more fact than fiction. Go see it!!
