Excellet 3d imagery. The story line was, at times, weak and predictable, but overall was a very good film to see. Entertaining film if you don't parallel it to "American History". I am not sure if that was the intent, but I'd say more "human nature". Would definitely recommend it and strongly suggest 3D!

As most reviews have said, the reason to see this movie is the 3D experience. The beauty of current 3D technology is not that things jump out at you but that it adds incredible depth to the picture. The scenery in the movie is beautiful, and I think the 3D is worth the extra expense of the ticket. But yes, the story is nothing special (which is why I give it 4 instead of 5 stars). Pretty generic stuff that's been told many times before, though the setting in this case is creative. And it's not a terrible narrative that you just don't care about. You can get drawn in if you let yourself and don't sit there criticizing it for being unoriginal. And if you pay to go see it, why would you want to ruin it for yourself like that? Go and enjoy it.

if you are looking for a pulitzer prize-winning story, don't. The story line is familiar but extremely well done with some very new twists. This is not a movie, it is an experience. I had an epiipany and I did not want the movie to end. I am sorry that it makes Star Wars look like Looney Tunes. Do not miss it.

The score almost drowned it out, the special effects almost overpowered it, and the love story was almost pushed aside for everything else. Those were almosts. The movie is sumptuous, vibrant,.and over the top in every area. Most of all it was a great movie. I can't imagine NOT seeing it in 3d. It was very cliche' ridden, but, works as a whole. The science, religion,, and big bad corporation, all textbook. But, all alitlle deeper that typical, and all well acted.

This was the best movie I have seen in a long time. The visual effects alone were enough to justify the ticket price. The story wasn't some sort of break through but it was enough to carry you through the movie and give you that mindless feel good feeling when it was over. Highly recommended.

A spectacular film. The fact that the plot is somewhat predictable does not detract from an extraordinarily enjoyable movie. The lushly rendered alien landscapes leap off the screen in the 3D version of Avatar, and I highly recommend the 3D production. (I can't comment on the 2D or IMAX 3D versions.)
One suggestion: find a theater with comfortable chairs. With a running time of 2:40, once you add the trailers, you'll be sitting for close to three hours.

Excellent movie,... thought provoking, amazing CG effects. Although it is true that this movie reminds you of "Dances with Wolves", "The Last Samarai" & "Ferngully" (although I've never seen the last one,... just heard,...), - it still reminds us that all life is precious and that we need to be responsible with what we've been given and how we need to see through the eyes of another before making judgments. Even thought we saw the movie in 3-D and enjoyed it, - I'm not convinced that it is necessary to see it that way. I would definitely recommend seeing it.

8 out of 10. I saw it in 3D. I don't like wearing the glasses, but they are better than in the past and it was worth the experience. I would like to have seen more things flying past my head to totally immerse me in the movie. The screenplay was well written. The cinematography and CG was phenomenal. Directing could have been stronger in relationship development. Also, we should have left Sig Weaver retired-she was the weakest link. Jodi Foster or Jessica Biel would have been better. Good movie but the relationships left me unfulfilled.

Truly a groundgreaking film in terms of effects and usage of 3D. Don't wait for the dvd - I doubt the technology exists to experience the same effect on a home tv. Definitely a guy flick: lots of explosions, war and macho stuff, but still quite engaging for this chick flick junkie. The visual detail is beyond fantastic, biologically plausible, and much of it is so subtle that you really do suspend disbelief. Virtual reality feel of flying on the back of a pterodactyl is worth seeing the film multiple times. Thank you James Cameron.

This movie raise the bar for 3D visuals, whether it was the CG elements of the story or just the sets and live actors. One breathtaking shot after another. I heard complaints about politically correct plot elements. Not really - many unfortunate real world parallels can be found. The indigenous anthropology is embarrassingly what used to be described as the naive view of the "noble savage", plus a load of new age dime store metaphysics. But while the plot is simple and predictable it is well executed and the movie is still a delight from end to end.

Those who complain about the plot of AVATAR being unoriginal miss the point. AVATAR is a retelling of the classic Heroic Epic in the vein of STAR WARS, THE LORD OF THE RINGS, or, heck, the Moses story. As humans, we identify with and root for the archetypal characters as they take their journey in order to discover what is important in life. The trick is to be able to tell the old story in such a way that it resonates with a new generation. Cameron has done this perfectly. In addition, he has pushed the usage of CG in films into new territory. In short, AVATAR is James Cameron's challenge to the rest of the film community to go further and reach new heights. It is a masterpiece.

I want to go hug a tree, become one with nature, join a group to save and study the rain forest and apologize to every Native American Indian I see. First the pros. This movie was very pretty. The 3d was impressive. Now the cons. Everything else in this film. It was a condescending, insulting, derivative piece that brought nothing new (story-wise). 2 1/2 hours of America sucks, you people watching this movie are all bad people, feel guilty and expire, but hey, look at the pretty colors! If you want to know what it was to watch this film, watch Ferngully and Dances with Wolves , then the ending of Return of the Jedi while straining your eyes in funny glasses. It took Cameron 10 freakin' years to rip off a bad kids movie and a bad Lucas ending.

Very good movie. The effects and the technology were the best thing about this movie. The story line not so original ( think John Smith and Pocahontas) but still it was well integrated. The most visually engaging movie ever, Avatar in 3D leads the way to action/adventure movies' future. OK, so the plot is a bit trite and predictable; we lousy humans (read Americans) exploit aboriginal peoples with our military might to satisfy our greed, but lose in the end. Regardless, the groundbreaking technical and artistic craft make it a must-see. Maybe next time James Cameron will use the profits of this movie to create an emotionally engaging as well as visually engaging film.

Excellent film. Fast moving storyline keeps the audience engaged throughout the entire film. 3D and cg works together to make you feel a part of the action. Even had me ducking for cover a time or two. Definitely got my money's worth. Thanks, James Cameron, for the entertaining evening.
