Those who complain about the plot of AVATAR being unoriginal miss the point. AVATAR is a retelling of the classic Heroic Epic in the vein of STAR WARS, THE LORD OF THE RINGS, or, heck, the Moses story. As humans, we identify with and root for the archetypal characters as they take their journey in order to discover what is important in life. The trick is to be able to tell the old story in such a way that it resonates with a new generation. Cameron has done this perfectly. In addition, he has pushed the usage of CG in films into new territory. In short, AVATAR is James Cameron's challenge to the rest of the film community to go further and reach new heights. It is a masterpiece.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
