The 3D technology really pulls you into the movie. The first half was really a technological display of CGI & 3D done as its never been done before. It was excellent.
The movie itself carries its own weight. The story was interesting and well told.
Combining that with the technology made for a memorable experience which I hope will be used for all action movies going forward.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This was one of the most awesome movie experiences I have had in a long time. The story is so relevant to the past and present. 3D movie viewing is so unbelieveable that it will be hard to see movies the regualr way again. I hope there will be more movies shot this way.. The therme of the movie is very releveant in many ways but most important is that it is a old stoy told in a wonderful and beautiful way. James Cameron is our modern day George Lucas.

The film is visual stunning but the story is tired--Dances with Wolves meets Independence Day (with a touch of Antz). The characters, really caricatures, are developed simplistically with no depth. The fight scenes become painfully boring as if watching a video game where you cannot participate.

You feel like you are a part of this movie...definitely must see in 3D! Great storyline! Viewed it twice this weekend, the 2nd time was even better. Plan on going back a 3rd time to watch on the IMAX screen 3D. Amazing effects brought to life in your lap. 5+ stars!!!

I was more impressed with the motion capture than I was with the 3D. The 3D glasses need to be wrap around so the frames do not interfere with viewing. I saw this film at AMC Marina Pacifica and the sides of the screen were at 90% opacity. I'm not sure if have faded out sides of the screen is part of the 3D viewing experience but I found it distracting.

The special effects were unbelivable. The store was also wounderful. Felt like you were part of the sences. It was heart beaking to see their lives destroyed for money. Unfortunetly it"s more like reality, then we like. Good Movie.

I didn't think anybody could top the originality of Luca's Star Wars, but Cameron has done it with this film.
The storyline, the characters, the planet, the ecosystem, the message are so incredibly poignant for society today.
A must see film that is incredibly well done.
I'm waiting for the sequel.

Saw this in widescreen 3D premium balcony theater seating, brewskies, sliders and fries at your seat. Was a GREAT evening out - even if a bit pricey - still a lot less than doing dinner and a staged show - AND much more entertaining. Sound was great - FANTASTIC CGI, fair story line (it even had passable character development). The 3D stuff was well applied to enhance rather than steal the show. I liked the fire embers sparkling in 3D. When available in Blu-Ray I will be buying a copy. It will be the standard by which future 3D cinema is judged (like the first Star Wars flick set the bar for CGI).

First the ok stuff - the plot drives the movie, it doesn't bore you, but it is nothing great. It is sort of a simplified "Dances with Wolves" in space. That said, it is fun and works overall. For the great - this is what movie making is supposed to be. Talk about vision! This movie creates a world unlike anything you have ever seen. The is the visually most stunning piece of film making I have ever seen.

Avatar was basically Ferngully meets Pocahontas. Graphics were mind blowing and kinda not worth it in 3D, but still really neat. I'd opt out if I could to see the 2D because it'd still be just as awesome. 3D I don't think is there just yet because only a few dozen things were noticeable and the movie would have been fine without them. I would rather rent this movie and watch it on blu-ray then see it in theaters again.

Special effects were wonderful, but too much heavy handed "Michael Moore" like liberal stereotypical themes. And way too much violence. And at the end they let the Human survivors return to an environmentally raveged Earth? Dont you think they will come back with a vengence?

It's not really breaking that much NEW science fiction ground, and the story is a simple one, but simplicity works. What's not simple is the richness of the world James Cameron created. This backdrop is captivating, beautiful, and complete. I'd love to see episodes like Planet Earth on the Discovery Channel--Planet Pandora, where the narrator could take the viewer through the amazing diversity of life and geology on this world.
Truly a feast for the eyes and ears, this movie was amazing to watch, and for what it lacked in originality of story, it more than made up for in other areas. It's a must-see. Not a movie like it in decades, if ever.

This bold film pushes the boundaries of the norm in terms of technical imagery and political commentary. The 3D effect works on several levels to include the audience in the action, as well as the plot. I found myself brushing the ashes from the battle away from my eyes, even as I reflected on our nation's history of involvement with indigenous peoples. Cameron's masterpiece provides a refreshingly candid insight into the choices we are making and how they will shape our future.

Avatar is a spellbinding disappointment. The visual experience is sumptuous, the story compelling, and the special effects and photgraphy are breathtaking. If there's an opportunity, make the effort to see it in Dolby Digital 3-D, which finally acheives filmakers' age-od dream of pulling viewers into the set. Cameron and crew set themselves apart as creative geniuses, so it's truly a shame he was either unwilling or unable to expend a little of his talent to liberate his screenplay from the usual and trite Hollywood paradigm of pure, faultless, and innocent Gaia-worshipping natives at the mercy of the evil-greedy-western-military-industrial complex. This movie could've been so much more.

We took our 6 year old grandson to see this movie yesterday and I have to say that he enjoyed it as much as we did. The 3D experience was like nothing we ever encountered. I'm happy to say that when Mr. Cameron stated, that he waited for technology to catch up before making this movie it was definetly the way to go. This is a must buy in the future. Good luck on all future endevors. This ia a triple A+++.

Avatar is a must see for several reasons.
First, the story itself, though it's the standard "indigenous people get exploited by greedy, soulless government" tale, is very clearly explained and thorough. Secondly, the central characters were developed enough so that the audience easily connects & empathizes with them.
Lastly, the movie becomes exceptional because of the incredible use of innovative computer graphics. Nowhere on film have you seen such a combination of human/alien form. The creatures & plants of the alien world are totally unique, I believed that they quite possibly could exist in an actual, yet alien biological setting.
Avatar has to be seen in order to be discussed..

I still have a lot of questions, but it's still a nice original sci-fi movie. I guess there's going to be 2 more made. The 3D technology is like none ever seen before. Some of the snowflakes look as they're falling right in front of your eye. 2H 40M is a little long for 3D, but definitely worth seeing, at the $10.50 ticket price.

A mind-blowing rush of pure cinema. Plenty of movies have promised to transport you to another world, Avatar is the first one to actually do it. Rendered almost entirely inside a computer, this is not some sterile virtual world, but a pipeline straight into James Cameron's imagination. Impossibly alive and bursting with creative genius. For the cinema junkie, this is more than a must-see, this is the next evolutionary step in filmmaking. Believe the hype!

This movie has changed the paradigm of the typical sci-fi flick. It gives the viewer all the expected thrills and then, goes beyond, because it puts the viewer into the story itself. It's told so seamlessly; from the superb acting, to the flawless imagery, to the magnificent music - that it transports the viewer into the world that is Pandora; an achievement that's rare with most sci-fi flicks. James Cameron has surpassed all expectations with Avatar - that's also a rare achievement.

Two of my good friends and I loved Avatar and were quite engaged with the visual effects of the new 3D technology.
