Avatar is a spellbinding disappointment. The visual experience is sumptuous, the story compelling, and the special effects and photgraphy are breathtaking. If there's an opportunity, make the effort to see it in Dolby Digital 3-D, which finally acheives filmakers' age-od dream of pulling viewers into the set. Cameron and crew set themselves apart as creative geniuses, so it's truly a shame he was either unwilling or unable to expend a little of his talent to liberate his screenplay from the usual and trite Hollywood paradigm of pure, faultless, and innocent Gaia-worshipping natives at the mercy of the evil-greedy-western-military-industrial complex. This movie could've been so much more.
