It's the first time that my 14 year old son didn't move an inch during a movie - In fact, he told me to be quiet when I told him how cool the movie was.
Avatar has lived up to the hype. It truly is the first of it's kind, taking special effects and blending them with live actors in a 3d virtual world.
If you're planning on seeing Avatar, make sure you see it in 3D. Imax 3d if possible. It's been a long time since I considered seeing a movie in the theaters more than once. Avatar is a definite 2nd visit!

Awesome special effects, great integration between "real" world and CGI and excellent score but not much new or exciting as far as storyline. Basically Cameron retold the Pocahontas legend with 10' blue people in the place of the American Indian. Also, the whole thing was about 60 minutes longer than it should have been, they could have tightened-up the story and left out A LOT of exposition but it seemed like they had more special effects and CGI stuff that they wanted to show so they kept going and going and going...

Favorite Line: "The aliens are returning to their dying planet." The Na'vi = all oppressed peoples. An old story...easily told in sci-fi/fantasy genres. Hands down the best movie I have spent money on since Lord of the Rings. It's everything you'd want from a sci-fi movie from 3-D affects to cross generation and 'mind melding' dream control. Great movie, language a little harsh but not horrible. One intimate scene near the end of the movie but not graphic and there are a couple (literally a couple) of top shots of the natives that are produced by the natives attire. I would pay to see it again at the theaters.

This is normally not my favorite genre, however, this movie was so well done, with good special effects, having a good story line as well as a lot of fun action it was very easy to enjoy. There were a couple of places that were slow and seemed to take longer than needed but not slow enough to wish the movie was over. It's a very good movie, and better than I expected from seeing the trailer. I found the 3D effects more distracting than thrilling.
It's another Titanic in many ways, bringing forth some pretty important messages through means of time-tested Hollywood cliches.
The new motion capture technology for faces works pretty well. Which is going to empower directors to create more artificial bodies like those of the N'Avi, ideal in the eyes of our image makers.
Impossibly tall, impossibly thin, but bulging in just the right way for both sexes.
Now it will be even easier to promote impossible body images to kids and adults alike.

This movie absolutely delivered. The graphics were incredible, seamlessly intertwining reality with Cameron's beautiful fantasy world. The writing for the movie was fantastic, hitting on so many major levels and touching on so many controvertial topics. The characters were likable and, for the most part, believable. The premise of the movie was enough to carry it, but the stunning graphics, great directing, and great writing really made this into one of the best movies I have ever seen. Also, the 3-D was a lot of fun and added a lot of depth to the movie, but wasn't really necessary to make the movie great. Added a nice touch though.

SPECTACULAR-Totally worth every penny spent to see it. The plot is old school: natives being over run by a more advanced and aggressive intruder. The characters are slowly developed and a little predictiable in the end. this is byfar the most wonderful movie i have ever seen. being a movie buff ive seen countless movies, but this movie topped them all. the special effects and 3d were so lifelike you could walk right into the scenery. its real masterwork is in the story and the message that story is getting across. we as humans have almost completely lost touch with planet. we see nature and the life that inhabits it as just another rescource to be stripped away and used until there is nothing left. this mindset has also extented to ourselves. there is no longer a deep family and social bonding, its everyone for themselves. if this mindset does not change we will kill ourselves along with the beautiful, rich life around us.

Here's my first review of a movie, I usually don't do this but this movie deserves a review. I was moved by this film. I really enjoyed my first 3D experience with Avatar. Not only was it stimulating visually, the story and sound/music score was great! There were several elements in this film and I like how "mankind" was shown in a negative light and a positive way as well. I would like to see it again, enjoy!

I go to the movies very infrequently however it was recommended (raved) by several people so I decided to go. Definitely worth the money which has gone up significantly since I went last. The special effects are astounding, especially in 3D which I think is the only way to see it. Have already recommended to all my friends.

This movie has set the standard for all new special effect sci-fi movies in the future.
The characters were unbelievably real, the scenery was breathtaking, and the story line was too close to the truth to be comfortable.
Just as Star Wars started a revolution, so will Avatar.
