This is the kind of fabulous spectacle that has to be seen on the big screen (3D). The plot and characters are simple but classic good vs bad guys, and with the scenery and techno stuff, make the 3 hours seem shorter. It has too many wonderful details to catch them all in only one viewing.

I hate going to theaters. This movie made me forget that I was in one. I can't say enough. I could not take my eyes off of the screen. This has got to be one of the best movies I have ever seen. Well worth the 2 hours and 40 minutes spent in the theater. Highly recommend seeing it and seeing it in 3D.

The special effects, the robots, the animals, everything was fantastic! The battles were intense and tough to watch as we felt the helicopters were coming directly at us. It has to be seen in 3D! Saw the movie last night and loved it, We were surprised at how many adults over 30 were in the crowd and not many children at all. It was great I had never been to a 3D movie before and this will definately be one to remember. I cant even say which part I liked the best because there were too many to list. We waited awhile to see the movie because it would be so busy.....I think we should have waited longer because it was still sold out!
Overall the movie was good. It will win awards for sure. The disappointment came from the 3D. We were not able to get seats directly in the middle of the theater (in fact we were front row and to the right) so a lot of the effects were lost to us. What we could see what really great, but in the end it hurt the eyes.

Avatar is, undoubtedly, a massive technological achievement. The 3D version allows you loose yourself in the environment and forget the characters are computer generated. However, the awe of the new format quickly wears off when you realize that Avatar, the story, is the same tired, unoriginal theme we've seen in so many movies before. It is that overused big bad corporate (or government or both) complex against the benevolent and eco-aware indigenous people. You've seen this movie before when it was called Dances with Wolves, Braveheart, and Last of the Mohicans. With that in mind, some of the action and dialog becomes a bit comical. Sigourney Weaver's acting is so bad it is distracting. Skip it.

The two stars are for the special effects only. The movie was visually amazing. It was like a feast for the eyes. But that was the only redeeming quality to this movie. If it had not been for that, I would have walked out 20 minutes into the movie. Same old plot line, same cheesy writing, different planet. Boy goes on adventure, boy meet girl, boy saves world, blah blah blah. The sad thing is that the same mindless audience keeps eating it up over and over and over again.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Definitely a movie worth seeing in 3-D and on the big screen. Very well made, BUT I do have to say that I left the theatre somewhat depressed. It stirred up too many feelings of the downside of humanity. There was an odd sense of the humans being cartoons of themselves and the "aliens" being more human.
I also consider myself liberal about many things and not a prude...but is this what a PG-13 movie is these days...much more violent than I anticipated.
