I just saw this movie for the first time because I was a little worried about the 3D. Oh man why did I wait so long!! This movie was by far the best movie I've seen so far this year. The effects were top notch and it had a great story. I definitely wasn't ready for it to be over. Now I have to see it in Imax 3D!!

I saw the preview for the movie before it came out, thought it looked interesting. but with a review I saw that the movie was good, but too long and all the hype, I decided to pass for now... Usually movies with this much hype, I dont like. Maybe see it on DVD when it came out. Last night I decided to go see it, wanted to go see a movie, and saw this was still in the theaters. First the theater was still packed to the gills, which amazed me.
The movie is almost three hours long, but its so entertaining that you dont realize its that long. Some movies drag, but this movie did not. The special affects, yes you know they are CGI, but they are some of the most realistic CGI graphics I have ever seen. Some movies CGI distracts you from the story, but not in Avatar, but the CGI makes you believe its real, it really fits in with the movie. The final battle scene is nothing less than amazing.
A must see movie.

This movie should be seen anyway because it is such an important technological work.
So, as you will be seeing it, you might as well see it on the big screen where you can truly appreciate its magnificence.
The effects are wonderful and although it is true that some themes are already present in "Dances with Wolves" this movie goes much further. It is written simply but alludes to Global Warming, the power of the Corporation, the historic treatment of the American Indians, the iraq War, Shock and Awe and the Avatars we become on the internet.

The 3D wasn't as cheezy as I thought it might be, it was extremely apropos, only what the story needed, not 3D for 3D's sake, ever, very nice. Visually, the world of the avatars was so beautiful, beyond words, you want so very much to go and live in that world eternally, just like the main character Jake. The story was compelling, simple, and in my opinion worked better than if it had all kinds of complicated plots which many typical Hollywood films have that takes away from the wholeness of the movie, which this movie thankfully did not do that. I loved it so much I want to collect the DVD in Blue Ray and relive it again and again!

Great movie, it was awesome in 3D. The theatre on the other hand sucked. Went on a Friday afternoon and the theatre and restrooms we filthy. There's no excuse for it. Bad enough that the patrons are slobs and can't drop their trash in the can on their way out but there are enough employees standing around they could have picked up a broom. It takes away from the evening out.

I delayed seeing this in the theater figuring I would wait to watch it at home when it is released on DVD. But friends kept insisting I needed to see this on the big screen in 3D. So my husband and I went to see it yesterday and all I can say is WOW! This was amazing. At times I felt like I was right in the movie with them. And the colors were so vibrant. I really, really enjoyed this movie. Can't say enough good things about this. Go see it in the theater while it is still there. You will not be disappointed.

Yes, the effects were amazing, however the story was predictible and the dialog contrived. James Cameron is an amazing inovator and a great director but he should leave the writing to others. (As an aside I believe this is also true of George Lucas.) Also I believe that 3-D movies such as this and Alice in Wonderland should have motion sickness warnings for the sensitive. I have at least two friends who would not have enjoyed either of these movies.

We went expecting the hype to be greater than the movie, but we were pleasantly surprised and I for one was blown away. It truly was a completely new world and the story, while a bit simplistic, still was engrossing and satisfying. The Na'vi and avatars were very convincing, and the love story between Jake and Neyteri was both believable and moving. I even found the Na'vi language of great interest.

If I hadn't seen this in 3D, it would have been a waste of time for us - both my husband and I thought the story was just ok - nothin special - like one person said - it's a movie for a 13 year old - hence the rating, I guess. The effects and the 3D were great but it all was really far fetched. I felt Jerasic Park was more believable or even Back to the Future was more entertaining - both great story lines. Also, nothing really kept us on the edge of our seats - rather predictable. So, I would only recommend this to someone who was really into sci-fi or special effects and would only recommend the 3D or IMAX version just for the effects, not the story, so much.

I saw Bwana Devil in 3D in the 1950's. 3D is interesting and I expect it to be the norm soon.
But, this is a movie for 13 year olds with an absurd story. Give me a reasonable plot with good acting any day as opposed to a technology wonder.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The only question I had leaving this movie was how the heck it did not win the Academy Award? Although The Hurt Locker was a great movie...it didn't come close to all this movie was. I really think the Academy got this one completely wrong. I wish I could have seen this movie in IMAX 3D but had to settle for Real 3D...which was impressive but I think it would have been even more awesome in IMAX...LOVED THIS MOVIE!

BLOWN AWAY!!! James Cameron's story is bold and surpasses brilliant. The actors and actresses that portrayed each character did their job by bringing us into their world. Breathtaking graphics that entertained the child within begging to see more and more amazing wonderment. Each time I tell someone about this movie my face lights up and the rave reviews never cease. This is like a Sci-Fi Gone With the Wind. This will be a part of my movie collection. Sheer Genius by all involved!!!

Excellent movie - great special effects - nice love story but better overall theme message. I think even young childern, 5 and older, would attend to this movie's action. Also loved it because there was no SMUTT!!!
