This movie sets the bar for all future 3D movies! It is truly a work of art! You can tell that much time, effort, and money was put into this movie, as it seems like a type of movie you would expect seeing a few years from now. The visual effects are truly that amazing. My only complaint about this movie is that the story is very basic. It almost seems like a kids fairy tale, just with PG-13 content. If they had made the story a little more complex, this movie would probably be considered the best movie of the decade. Regardless the story, this movie MUST be seen at least for the visual effects! And YOU MUST see it in 3D, as it was meant to be seen in 3D!! It will encourage more producers to make 3D movies!

My college age sons, husband and I went to see Avatar yesterday. We throughly enjoyed the 3D special effects as well as the story. I would recommend this movie to all older teenagers. I am not a sci-fi fan, but I enjoyed it. The story line was predictable, but intricate and enjoyable.

Avatar is the most stunningly beuatiful movies that I have seen in many years. The extraordinary artistic creativity and attention to detail created a truly wonderous alien world. It is definitely a must see film.
They story itself is standard fantasy/science fiction fare. It is an old-fashioned morality tale, which certainly isn't a bad thing, but don't expect nuance, complexity, or character development.
I didn't think the 3D added much to the experience and was distracting at times.
Avatar has raised the bar on movie making, and brings back the sense of wonder to films that so many of us had as children.

Though the plot is almost as cliché as the trailer indicates, and I want to strangle whoever picked the word "unobtanium," the movie is so breathtaking that you will forget all of that. I am not sure you can have much more fun at a movie - and, after all, that's what it's all about. A few critics may quibble over plot, dialogue, etc., but they need to immerse themselves in the world Cameron has created - frankly I could have watched the Nav'i hunt and soar with no plot needed. My wife and i are ready to go back - we saw it in 3D and I am seriously thinking IMAX - I have always shied away from that format for full length movies, but this one at 2.5 plus hours flew by. I called a friend (also my boss) at his request and told him to go and if he didn't like it I'd buy his ticket. Just FANTASTIC!

The movie started off a tad slow, but it gained ground quickly and built up to its fantastic finish. The special effects were as incredible as all the hype led us to believe, and I found the storyline, while predictable, quite rewarding. Very nice blockbuster that indeed lives up to its budget and hype. Bravo!

I'm generally of the opinion that Americans need to see a ultra-expensive, hi-tech, special effects movie, great only as eye candy, like we need more war and greedy big corporations. But that's what's nice about Avatar, is that it has some of the most amazing special effects you'll ever see, plus a message re. things like war, corporate greed, cultural understanding, and saving the environment. I risked the violence to take my two boys (10 and 8) and I'm glad I did. Afterwords they were just as talkative about those issues as they were about the effects and life forms on the planet. The only down side is a completely mailed in performance by Sigourney Weaver.

This is one of the very best movies that I've watched in a long time. The 3-D effects are getting so much better (although there were times when the camera was moving around quickly that I still felt a little queasy), the story line was great, and the characters and actors were very well matched. It was so fast paced and absorbing that even though I had a bottle of water there, I completely forgot about drinking it!
