I really enjoyed this movie. I went with my husband and 9 year old son. My son and my husband didn'e even move because they were totally into this movie. The movie effects andn story line was great. A must see.

Wonderful visual effects - only see in 3D. After the first couple of minutes you don't even know you are wearing special glasses. Okay we have see the story before, humans can't live on their planet so they try to take over anothers, and good vs. evil - but not with the amazing colors and 3D. A must see.

So much more than just going to a movie -- you MUST see it in 3D or IMAX to get full experience -- & it was an "experience". I was ill & in pain when I went to see with family, but it was so worth going. I was also dubious from trailers -- thought it wd be aimed at teens (I'm in my 40s), but despite being a mostly animated film, it was sophisticated enough for any taste. The detail of the world is amazing & gorgeous, and the 3D made you feel you were there on this beautiful world. A true escape from everyday & Mr. Cameron has made a true masterpiece. Audience all clapped at the end. GO SEE IT.

That was the best $15 i spent at the movies in a long time. Its hard to beleive the majority of the movie was animation. If they could, they should nominate the AVATAR characters for best acting awards. The lead female AVATAR displayed such emotion that i still have a hard time believing she was entirely computer animated. I have never seen such emotion displayed in animation. It was Star Wars meets Braveheart meets Dances with Wolves meets Jurassic Park meets James Cameron.... times it by 10 and put it in 3d. Amazing

I would recommend this film only for the 3-D special effects. They were genuinely remarkable. But it was a terrible script. I'll give it marks for idealism, but it was trite, unbelievable (even for a sci-fi), crude lines (with the one exception of the iconic, "I see you"), and poorly constructed. For one example, the hero's transition into "caring soul" was abrupt and turns on one line – yet that is the whole point of the movie! For me a bad script is like a silly rubber shark in an action movie. It ruins "the magic" that is supposed to draw you in.

If you go to the movies for the right reasons, you will LOVE this movie. Don't let reviews from an@l retentives about the story line keep you away. The Sci-Fi is believable, the CGI is unbelievable, You don't think twice about the 3D glasses (great), and the character development is so rich that you are definitely so far in to the movie that it's not about IF you are rooting for the good guys...You ARE ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS. Avatar isn't perfect when it comes to story, character, and dialogue. While those elements are solid, they are presented simplistically and would not be that engaging without the astounding visuals. Visually, the film is a magnificent presentation of an alien world, and it concludes with one of the most epic battles ever depicted on screen. You should definitely see Avatar in 3D or IMAX 3D for the full effect.

I thought that Avatar had fabulous special effects especially the 3D version. I do take exception to some of the language especially when the name of God is used in vain. I don't know why some movie directors seem to go out of their way to do this. This was an excellent movie. The special effects were very good. Once it got going the plot was interesting and moved right along. The "human" characters were a bit wooden, but the blue people were interesting and different enough to hold my interest.

Visually it was awesome and exciting, but, it was just too much to take. The totally unnecessary vulgar language made this movie unfit for any thinking person's child. Then there was the violence... it was over the top and there was way too much of it. There are those that would disagree, but I'm sure that there are many more that would agree with this review.
Story line was OK but a takeoff of a Starwars plot with updated characters. I didn't get up and walk out like I should have.

Graphics are very well done technically, but there's nothing creative about the people, world, sets, and definitely nothing creative about the story.
If you're a visual graphics person, then go see it at the IMAX 3-D, because I bet you'll fall asleep if you watch it at any other venue.

According to James Cameron, who wrote this thing, the natives of Pandora, who are so obviously American aborigines, are good and pure and brave while the Earth people (really, white people) are greedy, deceitful, avaricious, and destructive. End of story. The rest is is eye candy.
Honestly, haven't we had enough of this? I know I have.
As for the special effects, themselves, I am not sure they are much more spectacular than the "Under The Sea" song and dance scene in "The Little Mermaid".
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I'm always starved for good science fiction and this movie went above my expectations. Not only were the visuals fantastic, especially in 3-D, but there was still the good old fashioned life's moral questions left behind like a good science fiction story is supposed to.

With black-and-white morality, characters that are more like caricatures than people, and an oh-so-familiar plot, Avatar is typical Hollywood fare. However, if you are willing to gloss over those things and accept the movie for what it is (a popcorn action flick), it is visually stunning. It is easy to forget that nearly everything on the screen at all times is SPFX. We saw it Christmas Eve, and it was a wonderful break from the holiday madness, despite its shortcomings.
