Avatar is an eye-popping 3D extravaganza for the eyes, an unexpected detail for the ears, and an unconventional story for the mind. Jim Cameron's writing and direction were suberb, along with excellent acting on the parts of the main characters and supporting cast. CGI to live action scenes were seamless, along with amazing 3D special effects that don't wear out your eyes. The storyline was full and complete, lending to an enjoyable ending that won't disappoint. Having a vision and going with it worked for Mr. Cameron again in this movie, with minimum predictability in the main storyline. A love story, a dream, a fight for survival, this movie has it all.

If you have the reasoning capacity of a ten year old, and you can't get enough special effects, you'll love Avatar 3-D. On the other hand, if you don't count on your toes, you'll have to settle for the special effects because the story is insulting, racist and puerile. This is Dances with Wolves with even stupider natives. Thank God there's an American to save these pathetic, animistic stereotype losers becasue they can't fend for themselves. Oh, by the way, the Enemy? More Americans. This is pure, rank, consumer trash.

This was an astonishing movie to watch. There were oohs and ahhs and wows from all over the theater throughout it. From the very first scene it was obvious that Cameron has really upped the ante in special effects. The 3D was really well done and the line between "real" (camera-shot) scenes and totally computer-generated ones was hard to distinguish. The attention to detail was unbelievable; there were dozens of different alien plants and animals, all highly imaginative but still convincing. The story was pretty engaging and had some unflattering but true parallels to our real world. There were really no slow moments to it. I'm going back for sure.

I've been going to the movies for around 60 years. Avatar has it all. Acting, direction, story. And then there's the "knock your socks off" visuals (kudos to ILM). This movie has to be seen on the big screen in 3d. I'm going again on Friday with my wife who’s an artist. I think the colors alone will blow her away. James Cameron deserves all the academy awards including the Lifetime achievement award.

This was an awesome move and you should absolutely see it.
You probably know about the special effects. The most amazing part about the movie is that the effects and the characters feel real. You forget that you are wearing 3D glasses and you do feel immersed in the movie.
However, you have seen this movie plot before. It is Ferngully on steroids. A little obvious and preachy. And, about 15 minutes too long at the end.

"This movie is visually spectacular. The 3D special effects are worth the price of the ticket alone... mesmorizingly beautiful. I will definitely go see it again.
If I had to have one complaint it would be the story line. Although the story was interesting and well written, it was stereotypical. Also, I was a little disappointed that there was not more gut-wrenching emotion. James Cameron usually makes me shed a tear or two.

I would recommend this movie to everyone! This movie in 3D is not like the Superman in 3D where they flash the glasses at the bottom of the screen to put your glasses on. This one interacts with you through out the whole movie. It is a long movie but its so good that you dont even realize the time passing by. Excelent movie, cant wait to see it on I-Max!

I found the AVATAR 3-D IMAX a great experience. Initially noticed better 3-D and sound effects. This one needed more 3-D effects that would 'jump out ' from the screen. Seemed like normal 3-D most of the time.
This Sci-Fi movie was a cross between several other takes from other movies. One thing I noted was that the inhabitants were an obvious cross between 17th Century American Indians and Africans - - Cameron, did you think we wouldn't catch that? But having added this mix says something about both these peoples being both 'gentle w-nature' with proud cultures and maybe it was this that makes them so outstanding that they rise to have an honorable mention in fiction.. Much thought went into this movie. It's well worth the experience.

The effects are fantastic. While some of the characters are simple the story line is developed in tune with the mood of the movie and brings the viewer to have close ties with all levels of subjects presented in the plot. And talking about simplicity, it depicts the military just like they are...I wish more movies had this same message maybe people would realize that we are just like the corporate depiction in the movie and we would stop invading places like Afghanistan and Iraq.

I'd seen previews of this movie and didn't think it was really "for me", but my husband wanted to see it so we went. Am I ever glad he talked me into it. I'd heard that it was very good, but that to truly experience it, it must be seen in 3D. Best advice I've recieved in quite some time. This was an exceptional movie! The graphics were out of this world. Unbelievable!!! Even without the phemonenal visual effects, this would be an outstanding movie. I can't wait to take the kids!!!

I wasn't quite sure what this movie was about when I went to see it, and so didn't really have any expectations, except to see some very cool 3D graphics. I thought this movie was AMAZING. I was thoroughly entertained for the full 2 hours and 40 minutes. I thought there was a good message throughout, I was able to identify with the main character, and the movie also contained a classic love story. The 3D aspect was unbelievable- I actually felt as if I was part of the movie. I definitely recommend seeing this movie at least once!

Spectacular visuals immerse you in a world like nothing you've ever seen before. Truly amazing and jaw dropping. The only reason for 4 stars only is 2 fold: 1. the well worn story line follows a tried and true method of the evil corporate greed coming to pillage the land of the indigenous people, who ultimately exact their revenge (but with this much budget invested I suppose we have to expect a proven winning formula!), and 2. Why so much bad language? I realize in many battle flicks there is an added sense of realism by putting in the foul mouths, but this movie did not need it in the least. Still, don't miss this in 3-D!

I have to say, were it not that I had to go to the bathroom, I would have easily sat through another hour on top of the 2.5 hour length of this movie. The story is kind of reminiciant of old west movies where settlers kill to get what they want. It's an old story but still good.It also paints a picture of greed in humans that, dispite being obviously enhanced and flaunted here, holds an uncomfortable recognition. A sense of "Yeah, I can see people doing this" The 3d effects are amazing. They aren't like the old 80's 3d that left you with a headache, but easier and after around 30-45 minutes you kind of settled into having things seem to be happening next to your head. I would go again

One of the best metaphors for the history of the native people of this continent, of the entire hemisphere! Look beyond the special effects and get a history lesson in the invasion of the Americas by the Europeans, the treatment of the indigenous people, and the total disregard for their culture, spirituality and the ecological balance of the land. The movie borrowed heavily from "The Last of the Mohicans" and even used the actor Wes Studi who played Magua in the cast of Avatar. The bad guys were just too simplified and lacked much in the way of character development. James Cameron did a great job with the technology used for this movie. The last scene in the movie is the only one in which the blending of Nagi and humans was clearly computer blended animation. The movie has a message that was positive and was fun to watch. I would recommend it to a friend and would see it a second time.

A spectacular visual effects effort. The story is an update of settlers coming to America and ravishing the Indians with the difference that the Indians win in this movie. Seeing AVATAR without the incredible 3-D effects would be a waste which are absolutely fascinating.

I have never written a review, and I hardly ever tell people that a movie was worth the ticket price. However, this movie in my opinion will create a paradigm shift for the better. I went and saw it in 3D. Well worth the wait and the dollar more in price. It is by far the best movie I’ve seen in a long, long time. James Cameron is a genius. The story line is well written and well directed. The characters are well developed and engaging. And, the scenery/graphics combined with the 3D experience is masterful. I know money is tight; however, if you’ve debated over which movie to invest both your time and money in seeing, it is this movie. You will not be disappointed. If you don’t believe me, then look at the other ratings. It’s that good.

This movie was one of the best Fantasy movies I have seen in a long time. I saw it in 3D and it was amazing. I felt like I was virtually in the movie. It is a movie for adults and teens but definitely not for children. There are a few parts in it that I know a child would be shutting their eyes not to see. Some parts are intensely sad. Overall I just loved it and am so happy I went to see it!

Thought it presented the humans as very indifferent to another lifeform. Head commando was true mercenary. In the end I think we all had the feeling of respect for our world and its ecology. The visual effects were amazing.

I wanted to be emersed in this but everything looked far too unbelievable. Made epic and huge for the sake of it. James Cameron basically saying "Look what I can do Mom!". If you're a visual effects fan than this is a must-see. Otherwise they did this particular story better in "Dances with Wolves".

The most visually stunning movie I've ever seen. The level of detail James Cameron uses is amazing. My wife is not a sci fi fan at all but was blown away by the action, story, and of course unbelievable special effects. I think this will very well be the highest grossing film of all time. By far the best movie of the last 2-3 years.
