Didn't want to go but my wife made me - and I just loved it. Ellen Page was her best since Juno. Drew Barrymore's few spots are hilarious. A real feel good movie with a better than I expected story.

I went with a group of friends to see this movie, and we got a kick out of it... so much fun! Drew Barrymore's character was hilarious and Juliette Lewis looked like a real roller derby girl! The feeling of friendship and team was awesome in this flic, and being an athlete, I loved the competitive brutal scenes of the sport! I recommended it to guys & girls to see, because there's enough action and laughs for everyone. Great job, Drew!

while Drew did a solid job at directing, and there was some real talent in the pool, this script was so clearly the weak link in the chain. Far from ready to be shot. Not a long movie, but it felt long as the script meandered and touched on things never to paid off, touched on things that should have been paid off. It was a big rewrite away from making this movie have pace and cohesion. Enjoyed many aspects of the movie but the overall was a bit disappointing.

I think that this was a great representation of roller derby girls. It did a great job of making people realize that roller derby girls do it because they love it, and outside of derby we have busy lives. This was such a good movie! Ellen Page and Kristen Wiig were great, and I don't think Drew overshadowed the other actors at all. I went with a male, and he seemed to like it just fine. For the most part, Drew Barrymore did a decent job representing the sport, in my opinion. Drew's character was the only one that was more "entertainingly physical" than what I've ever seen at an actual bout. I don't fault the fun in it, though.
Sport aside, the movie is entertaining and while I could have done without yet another teenage *"indiscretion" scene, I appreciated that it turned out more life-like, and that the character handled the unfortunate situation with the creep afterward in a way that I wish more girls, and women for that matter, would emulate.

I grew up with movies and Bob Altman went from MASH to Nashville while I was under 20. This really brought me back to those days and knocked me out as a first effort directing. The whole movie had so much heart and proved that art and great characters can drive a theatergoing experience without being what a friend called "too meta". Granted, Ellen Page gets lots of credit for keeping us right there with the whole movie, but the extensive cast all held up their roles. See it to believe it. It may not triumph at the Oscars but it deserves to. This is a fabulous and all-American piece of art and a great time in the theater.

I was excited about the film considering it stars Ellen Page and is directed by Drew Barrymore and I'm happy to say I was not disappointed. It was fun to watch and makes you want to strap on some skates and hit the pavement.

It was slightly entertaining with it's quirks, but it feels like a student film with some poor editing and continuity problems.
There is a scene where she goes upstairs. No explanation of why she is going there and why she puts on a record and why her future boyfriend shows up. I thought I must have dozed off and missed something.
It has it's moments, but it mostly feels like the pseudo alternative hype. "Oh my gosh look it's gurls with tattoos"!!!! And when will Drew learn to stay behind the camera. She just detracts heavily from the quality of any other players skills.
That said it sure it nice to see films where women are independent and athletic. Love that.
What's next from Drew? A movie about girls BMX from the 80's?
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Wow, what a great movie! fun to follow, fun to watch, even my 30-something year old Fiance was into it! Except for 1 making out sc3ene, I;de bring my 5 & 8 year old. I wish the Hot Tub scene had been a bit longer... Not to give the movie away but it would have been fun to watch a bit more sputtering & maybe some getting out action ;)

Wasn't sure what to expect but really enjoyed this movie. It had a certain warmth and realism yo it which was nice to see. I think it'll resonate for anyone who feels a bit trapped in life and wants to be more assertive in what they want.
