I am a huge fan of the originals. It was hard adjusting to the new Freddy, though.
It is very easy to scare me, so I did jump a lot during the movie. The great thing about this movie is that it went back to the beginning with DETAIL, even though, it wasn't very pleasant delving into a bothered man's work.
I enjoyed it.

Dont know whats up with the negativity in the other reviews. For this movie having a new Freddy, it was damn good. Dont know why people keep saying "it wasnt scary". This movie has been around for over 2 decades. Why the hell would it still be scary? Im an avid horror movie watcher and have been all my life. I've seen some great horrors that most people havent even heard of. This was a good movie and I think if you have an open mind (not one thats centered around the original), you'll enjoy it too. Just remember that this not a remake (director said that himself) and that its obviously not gonna scare you like the original did over 20 years ago (because your not a little kid anymore). Great actors, nice suspense and an overall great movie.

I enjoyed this movie, and I am a huge fan of the originals. There were a few things that I didn't care for but I was expecting a lot worse.
The acting was a bit dramatic and I didn't like how they made up his face. But I guess they had to make a distict difference in appearance so you didn't expect the same character as Robert England's portrayal. The CG was a bit rediculous but it added to the delightful cheesiness that is "Freddy."
I like that they used some of the same scenes as some of the originals. Also, let's be real. It was a bit scarier than some of the originals. Anybody who says it wasn't is forgetting that they watched the originals when they weren't as desensitized to scary movies (like when they were a kid or teenager). However, I didn't have any trouble sleeping that night.
They really made the audience hate Freddy for his child abuse/molestation, but you still gotta love those great one-liners!
Good job! I give 4 out five stars.

I was so looking to this remake of a great film. I jumped once and that was it. I wasn't scared, didn't want to hid my eyes, or anything. It was just dull. Now for the young generation who didn't grow upwith Freddy will love it, but the ones who fell in love with freddy years ago will be disappointed.
The whole child abuse was takin way to far. We knew about it but it was never really shown. I think that was just wrong.
It wasn't much of plot really didn't copy the first film very well. Just left me wanting to go watch the original to get a real scare.

Part of what made the original nightmare scary was the suspense. There is no suspense in this movie, hardly any build up at all. The special effects are TERRIBLE. I don't understand how a movie made in 1984 can have better special effects than today. Jackie Earl Haley is an alright freddy but the rest of the cast are such poor emotionless actors that there's no reason to sympathize or care at all about when their characters get killed.

I can remember being very young, and waiting anxiously for the next “Freddy” movie to come to the big screen, and then going there with anticipation of the creative genius that was presented to me. I was also in the Freddy Krueger fan club, and received a lot of cool stuff from being a member. I had the movie stand ups (thanks to the local video store) and posters – anything Nightmare on Elm Street related that came in – I had.
The same anticipation rushed over me a few weeks ago when I realized there would soon be another Freddy movie hitting the big screen, and sadly this time without Robert Englund. I couldn’t really imagine anyone else playing Freddy, but that was mainly due to the fact that I was a HUGE fan on the classic movie series. I accepted the fact that Englund could not play the role forever, and I looked forward to the new spin on his character.
When I was in seventh grade, I made my own Freddy glove out of some scrap metal, and after several accidental cuts – I wanted so bad to have the full Freddy Krueger costume. I worked in a Haunted House that year downtown, and a man there did the whole Freddy make-up – latex, a really great glove, and the whole costume. He was super cool, and I can remember how great it was to watch the process of him getting all of that latex make-up on. Freddy to me was an icon, a pseudo-hero, and so anything “Elm Street” to me was golden.
“A Nightmare On Elm Street III: Dream Warriors” was my favorite, because I spent some time in a hospital with other troubled teens, and the deaths at this time became more and more creative – I mean, who could forget the girl who got slammed head first into the TV? The characters were rich, and each one of their deaths played into their interests. It wasn’t just about being slashed to death if you fell asleep, but your dreams were customized to their specific talents or hobbies. “Elm Street” classic characters had personality, and they had back stories. They were rock and roll punks, gym rats, computer geeks, and all of them had their own mutual problem – Freddy. Parents would not listen, and they ended up dying from his glove.
I have seen every Elm Street movie, and enjoyed the creativity that each one of them presented. I even enjoyed “Freddy vs. Jason,” and laughed because I understood this was a throwback, or a tribute – clashing at odds with the generational goodness that was our slasher film characters. To the original Generation-X folks, it was like watching two friends playing together.
Now in 2010 we have the re-make, the Jackie Earle Haley “child molester” Freddy who has adult Polaroids of a pre-school aged “Nancy” in his “secret cave” and who victimized an entire class of children? He is “every parents nightmare,” and he is also a reflection on our society today which says that shock value on a person's evils must be exploited to the extreme. The old school Freddy, well - you knew he did bad things to kids, but you didn't get to see the photos - so what you imagined was more of a threat than having it provided to you in such a bland - almost disrespectful way. In the original films, we had Freddy’s back story, which was clever town secret, and was not ripped from an episode of Dr. Phil. True, he was still every parents nightmare, but he was also a horror icon that was getting revenge - and those parents would not listen!
In the 2010 remake, Freddy who slashed through the nightmares of dreamers, has been unfairly given a darker edge that seemed to destroy all that we loved – he has been turned into a petty child predator. He has been turned into the dirty ice cream truck driver. He has been given a make-over by Paris Hilton. blah. His make-up (which is supposed to make him look more like a real burn victim) turned Freddy into a mannequin head-like monster, which had blank persona. Freddy didn't have his cheesy smile - and most of his actions were expressionless due to the make-up.
The “kids” or the “helpless characters” are almost absent to the plot, and void of personality – which is evident in why some scenes seem out of place. One character is swimming in some sort of swimming practice, and ends up almost drowning – but up until that point, nothing was referenced about this character even being a swimmer.
Character development is only there when it was necessary to eliminate them, or to allow Freddy to begin a nightmare sequence. There is never character development that begins to prepare you for a later dream sequence, or to give you more information on a characters special abilities, talents, which may come in useful to fight him. It's just not there.
The 2010 "Nancy" works in a Diner, and there is a reference to a break up of sorts – but nothing matters about that three seconds after it is mentioned – and there is no character depth or back story. Nothing progresses further other than a few more kids getting killed, and with little to no sympathy from me. In the Original “Nightmare on Elm Street” Tina’s boyfriend “Rod Lane” crashed the party, and I could remember the crunching of his black leather jacket as he moved around. I could remember his accent as he spoke about the man with knives for fingers, and how horrible I felt when he was hung in the jail cell, after mourning the violent loss of his girlfriend to Freddy’s blade.
This new remake basically played out the same scenario, only this time it didn’t make me love the characters – I didn’t have a connection with them, so their deaths were not as important to me. When Tina was killed in the Original movie, Rod was helpless – and she was slashed about on the ceiling while Rod was forced to watch, and he had no way of helping her. His “rebel-badass” character was restrained, and all he could do was run and hide helpless himself now. The new movie did not make me feel this way, and when the scene was carelessly redone in the remake I just sat there, and the only way I could compare it to anything was like eating something bland and flavorless. It was just simply there to be there, but all of the flavor and texture was removed.
Nancy in the bathtub was another classic scene, and in the remake it is referenced but not revisited – another flavorless moment. You knew the glove would surface from under the bubbles, but it didn't climax. There was no "gotcha" - it just went back under the water like some cheap special effect. Old school "Elm Street" fans around me in the theater were like, "what?" One person booed, and I just sat there waiting for something exciting to happen.
The worst part was, that by the time Freddy began his classic antagonistic one liners, the movie was almost over. Haley was scary, and I will give him credit on that – Freddy was definitely made over. I think any true Elm Street fan could accept the new Freddy as being more sinister and dark, without having to feel like they were being cheated in the process. However, without the rich characters or an integrated storyline that didn’t beg, borrow, and steal from the original without any other improvements is just pathetic.
I didn't like this movie, and I believe it was just thrown together to say "hey, I did a re-make of a classic - now pay me." I enjoyed at best the fact that Freddy returned to give me some excitement, but like most things as you get older – it’s just not the same. The magic wasn’t there, and there was little to no reason for me to love it for more than what it was – a failed attempt at making my nightmarish hero come back into my dreams.
As we were leaving the theater, there was a young couple in front of me talking. The girl turned to the boy and said, “I have never seen any of the Nightmare on Elm Street” movies, and the boy said “I saw Freddy vs. Jason.” The girl took her boyfriends hand, and kept walking and then she said “Yeah, horror movies back then were awful.”
I almost cried.

I was looking forward to seething this movie, having grown up with the original Freddy, I couldn't wait to see how they could improve with bigger budgets and better effect. However I was sadly disappointed, the original was terrifying.. this one was all too predictable. Not because it was a remake, but because you new exactly when they were gonna try to make you "jump" in your seat. I also felt as is they went too far with the child molestation aspect, I felt uncomfortable and creeped out during those scenes, not in a way that made you hate the character more, but in a way that made you want to leave the theatre. I'd pass on this one, unless you're so bored you're considering watching Demolition Man or something.

This movie was by far one of the worst remakes that I have seen. The Original had points that would scare you and make you jump. This remake definately had jump in your seat moments making Freddy more of the boogie man type character that made him famous compared to the typical one-dimensional movie killers. This Freddy had layers and the story unfolded like a mystery than the original with its clever use of flash-backs. Although it could have been scarier and I would like a word with the casting director as some of the main teens were flat out awful. Although it stayed true to the original Nightmare, this version strayed off just enough to make it successful in its own view and show the many layers of Freddy and the dreaming process. Jackie Earley Hayley was haunting in this version and made a NEW Freddy for the next generation. I do however think they went a bit overboard with the make-up around his eyes and could have given him more flexibility in the face to show more anger. I think Katie Cassidy is a great scream queen in the making especially compared to the rest of the cast that put me to sleep. All in all, I was entertained and surprised in it as it wasn't identical to the original.

i liked this movie overall. there were some changes to the story that was added or switched up a little that made this movie so much more interesting. i thought this movie definitely couldve been a lot better in some spots tho. actors werent too bad, freddy was pretty great, couldve done more with him tho acting wise. he didnt look as good as the original. i thought this was almost as good as the original (although not as scary unless its just because i am older now) which is good in horror movie remake terms. id give it like a 7.5-8/10

Satisfying remake of the film that sucked me back into the whole excitement involved in not falling asleep. Too bad Kellan Lutz was the first to die, as his brooding coffee drinking diner customer made an interesting start. Katie Cassidy from Melrose Place was good as well, and the film had me guessing about who the main character of this film actually was! The backstory of Freddie was interesting and believable. I wasn't blown away by the film, but left satisfied.

I would not recommend for anyone to spend their money on this movie. If you want to see it that bad, wait for it to come out and rent it at RedBox for a buck. As i always say don't mess with the originals. The Original Nightmare on Elm street was way better and scarier than the new version. Jackie Earle Haley sounded exactly the same as he did as Rorschach in Watchmen so that made him less scary to me. Good attempt but Robert Englund will always be my Freddy

Before I saw the newest I watched all if the nightmare on elm street films.. the original was so rushed with no back story or real plot. The original was his "how fast can we kill off everyone?" The 2010 film was phenomenal. Not cheesy like the original. The effects were amazing, the plot was thicker, and the back story made sense. There were tons of aspects of the original film in the new one, which was cool. to say "Ohhh I remember that". The only thing that sucked is the theater I was in was packed and everyone was talkibg through the movie and immature kids were laughing throughout the infamous bath scene. So I recommend waiting to see it when the theater will be less crowded.

Definately doesn't compare to the original. Not really all that scary....Didn't like how they changed Freddy. But overall...I guess it was okay. I mean, come on, the remakes are NEVER as good as the original, right?

Started off ok, but soon fell flat on its face! As far a remakes go, it was ok, but the current Freddy doesnt even come close to the original. Did have a few jumpy moments, and some of the special effects were good, but I would wait to see it on DVD, not worth the 12 bucks!

The movie was boring. Love the guy playing Freddy but even he was not interesting. I went in wanting something different from the original but did not expect such a poor excuse for a movie. The story made zero sense. Gave it 2 stars because I did like the first 15 minutes.

Don't waste your money....acting was terrible....i was ready to leave after 10 minutes. To make matters worse, it turns out Freddy K is a child sex offender.....NICE! I would have rather spent my time in the E.R. waiting room.

Didn't like the movie, I even fell asleep. Didn't like the Freddy character, especially the voice. I didn't like the way they didn't make the same sound of knive fingers. That's sparkling thing sucked on the knives effects. Plus this Freddy talked way too much. lol...I spent 65 on this movie, took the neighbors..wish I would have waited.

I enjoyed the movie for the most part, but it was way too much storyline, too little Freddy Kreuger. Anybody who didn't grow up watching Freddy probably won't notice the difference (as was the case with many in the theater). The new Freddy was OK, but too much conversation!! Overall it was decent, way better than the Friday the 13th remake, but as a Freddy fan I was a little disappointed

The movie was good, i would have liked it better if Freddy's voice sounded closer to the original. Only part i didn't like was the part in Nancy's room when freddy was coming through the wall. It looked aweful. Other then that, it had me jumping out my seat..

definitely did not compare to the originals. i did not like the guy who played freddy at all! he just didnt seem scary. and the movie itself was not scary. yeah, some parts might make you jump but it didnt make you too scared to go home and sleep. i just really hope they dont come out with a part 2 remake.

wow.. this movie is so bad in my opinion I don't think it even deserves a review. This movie was an insult to Wes Craven, Robert Englund and everyone else that was in the original 1984 Nightmare. Jackie Earle Haley great job on screwing up such an iconic Character. Robert Englund will forever be Freddy!
