Was the director trying to put the audience to sleep as a participation gimmick? You know--since the movie is about falling asleep and nightmares. This movie was so boring that I almost walked out but fell asleep instead. If that was the objective, then I guess the movie succeeded. This movie had lifeless performances and an uninteresting, bland script. It is an extremely watered down version of the original and moved forward at a snail's pace. Watch Wes Craven's New Nightmare instead and skip this crap.

This movie was difficult to get through. The dialogue was HORRIBLE. With the exception of Thomas Dekker, the "teens" were almost unbearable to watch. Freddy was creepy looking, and less campy than the original version, but that didn't save this movie from being a pointless slash fest.

The movie was ok. Of course not as great as the original. I didn't like the new Freddy Kreuger, his acting was good but his voice did not go well with me. He sounded like he was trying too hard. I really think this movie was one of the best remakes of an already fantastic horror film. I was, however, disappointed in the change they made with Freddy's face. He just looks wrong and no where near as good as the original. Even so, I definitely recommend this movie to every fan of the original Nightmare on Elm Street movies.

Nowadays movies are banking on their fancy special effects. Although I did enjoy the fresh take as Haley had for Freddy, I felt this movie was very predictable and kind of boring. Stick with the original for 'first time' scares that Wes Craven and Englund brought to us in 1984.

So this movie was better than I expected because normally they completely butcher the remake of a once great horror film(Texas Chainsaw Massacre), but this time it was ok. The originals are still better but if you can get over Freddy's new face and the changes they made to the story you might enjoy it. They kept a lot of the original story points but they did add their own also. They also kept Freddy's sense of humor, not as good but still there. I even jumped a few times which never happens anymore. Overall I say at least rent it.

Horrible and Boring. I am a huge horror movie fan, and this movie just plan sucked. Very boring, with a weak plot. I would suggest rather than seeing this movie, spend the money on the box set of the original movies. You will be much happier!

The film had a few (and very far between) moments which were interesting. I wont go into details and spoil the film for those who WILL go watch it. I really like that they delved more into Freddy's past--that was interesting to see. The lead actor (JEH) I think was great in the role and gave the character (Freddy) more depth which was great. Another plus for me was Freddy's makeup--it was so much more believable to have him look burned. great makeup work w/him. Ok, moving on The rest of the cast, for me, seemed to play it too "middle of the road". Didn't love it, nor did I hate it. Perhaps it was the script that may have been the problem. If there was more for them to work with, then maybe it could have been a much better film. MAYBE.

Let me preface this by letting anyone reading this aware that the Freddy character has literally given me nightmares since I was about 4. I was too young to even see the movie, but triggered by a poster my oldest brother had, I still had fears of falling asleep and dreaming about him without even knowing that that idea was the basic premise of the movie.
I was nervous about seeing the remake, mostly because I don't particularly want to trigger anything now, even in my mid-20s. Yes...I do occasionally still have Freddy nightmares. Original Freddy is terrifying. New Freddy is laughably bad.
I admit that I was tense in the beginning and did start to feel a bit scared during the first act. By the halfway point in the movie, I had already relaxed and begun giggling at how horrible the acting and storyline had been, the terrible special effects, and the fact that new Freddy literally looks like he's wearing a mask instead of looking more like an actual burn victim? Come on!
I suddenly remember why I've been avoiding just about every movie remake since the trend began in the past few year. THEY MISS THE POINT, AND THEY SUCK.
Michael Bay...just stop already. No one likes you.

I'm really shocked that other reviewers raved about this remake - it was one of the worst movies I've ever had the misfortune of seeing. The plot was thin to transparent, gory yes, but so completely boring that I almost fell asleep 4 times - in a horror movie! I like Jackie Earl Hallie as an actor, but this portrayal of Freddie pales in comparison to Robert Englund's original. The old Freddie was not only scary, but funny as hell and entertaining, and so were the other characters. This new cast, including Freddy, are boring and humorless. If you haven't seen the original 6 movies, you may think this is a mildly ok movie, but if you have, you'll be jumping out of your skin to get out of your seat and leave the theater. A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY - HORRIBLE

This was definitely a great remake. We jumped out of our seats several times and loved the deeper plot line. The new Freddie was super creepy and not at all like the goofy/cartoony Robert Englund version of the original. I highly recommend this movie.

I was very excited to see this new remake and I have to say I was disappointed. The movie was just ok. I understand that there were big shoes to fill for Freddy Krueger, but it just didn't happen. The original is by far the better of the films. There can and will always be one Freddy Krueger to me...Robert Englund. Had Robert taken on this task, the movie would have had a much better chance.

Thinking back on when I saw the Original Nightmare on Elm Street, I remember being scared and exited at the same time. There was not a lot of gore but it left a lot to the imagination. The remake of this childhood scarefest was not the same, it had great special effects, some great "One-Liners" but so much more gore. I would suggest you see this if you like re-makes but dont expect it to bring you to the same "edge of your seat" point like Mr. Robert England did in the 80's.

To begin with, the original is my all time favorite movie, so I was really excited to see this. However, now I wish I would have waited for the DVD! The "new" Freddy looks like a Halloween mask gone bad- It wasn't "more aunthentic to what a burn victim would look like" as the ads claimed. The plot was not changed, nor was it really updated. They took the original, and changed some of the names (i.e. Tina becomes Chris), sexed it up a bit with some more attractive actors/actresses, threw in some research on insomnia and sent it to the screen. Rather than create any realy fright, they set it up like a haunted house where things jump out and startle you, but in the end you end up laughing at them. The ending was entirely anti-climatic with very little creativity. Don't waste your money!

I'm not sure what "possesses" one to think that Nightmare on Elm Street needs to be re-made....but, that said, this new take on the "dream slasher" does offer some new angles and the cinematography and effects are actually a step up from the original. Haley does a good job as Freddie with what he is given. This Freddie is different from the previous one as the back-story is detailed out more and he is "less nebulous". We know more about him before he becomes a dream stalker. Gone is most of the "dark humor" and this is replaced by omnipresent tension and fear. I was surprised by how much I liked this new version of Freddie Kruger. Give this one a viewing - right before you go home to sleep and, perchance, dream. Good luck!

I absolutely loved it! I was scared the whole entire time and that's exactly what I was hoping for. From the minute the movie started until the minute it ended, there was horror and that's what I look for in scary movies, not where the horror begins only half way through and it dies out by the end.

I watched Nightmare last night and while there were parts I loved about the newest release from the Elm Street franchise. I sort of expected more of a back story the way Rob Zombie retold the story of Michael Myers with his Halloween remake. The new Freddy (Jackie Earle Haley) looked way more like an authentic burn victim than the original Krueger. But I don't feel like he captured the enthusiasm that Freddy portrayed while exacting his revenge on the children of Elm Street . On the plus side the kill scenes were brutal and Freddy was very sinister. The kills that were familiar from the original were tastefully done and made me nostalgic . In all it was worth a night at the movies to see this film and Katie Cassidy is smokin hot ! Hope this review helps I'd say more but I don't want to spoil it for you so until next time .

Maybe I am a purist because the original was my favorite movie growing up as a kid. While it's okay to change the storyline in a remake like this, I felt the homages to the original were forced and didn't really fit with the current movie. Examples being the bathtub scene that led nowhere and the body bag scene that was there just to be there. I will admit that while very hard for a movie to get me, I did jump a couple times early on, but after the first 2 it became far too predictable.
Overall I would recommend it though. Good having Freddy be scary again (although he's too short to be intimidating and I can't get past the voice of Rorschach).

I have mixed reviews of this movie. I thought it was a little slow getting the entire story out, but I do like the plot twist that the writer added into the film. My biggest issue came from the ending, which I thought was just slightly over the line between getting the point across and uncomfortable. Besides the very end, I did think it was a good movie, and by far, the best of all the recent horror movie classic remakes.

This movie had some scares in it, that were sometimes predictable but sometimes not. The Humor used by Freddy was a bit to modern for him, i think, but that's what made it funny. The transitions from dreaming to being awake very fun to watch. Overall a good movie
