I took my son when he was younger to see Freddie Kruger every time one came out..and this was no different..we was watching the movie..and the twist was a little different..I actually thought the ending was surprising..I will leave that for you all to find out. But we liked it.. and would say go see it. not that scary anymore after you seen the others though.

Since I was little I grew up watching all the old Freddie movies. This version was ok, had the scare and the gore, but for me it just wasn't the same. NO ONE can replace Robert Englund as Freddie in my eyes. Although this one really looked more like and actual burn victim. And I wasn't as convinced since this one was also just as short as the teenagers he was killing, just was'nt menacing enough! But as a horror flick on it's own (forgetting the originals) it was good!

1,2 Freddy's coming for you... I usually hate horror movies but my fiance and I wanted to go on a date and we could not come to an agreement on a flick so Nightmare on elm street was the winner. I though it was successfully scary. It was suspenceful we did see the movie in the Dbox seats so I think that helped with the scare impact. overall it is a good date night movie not something I would rush out to see.

Don't let disenchanted individuals, who are cemented to the Nightmare of their youths, persuade you not to get out to the theaters to see the NEW Nightmare on Elm Street... Just because it isn't a complete throwback to the previously retired Nightmare does not mean it has nothing to offer the Horror genera as a whole. I liked the nods to the old Nightmare and enjoyed the unfolding of the new story.. I also thought the acting was adequate, considering the fact they choose actors and actresses new to the big screen. And I caught myself on the edge of my seat several times. It was a fun movie to see on the big screen, you'll be sorry if you miss it!

I have grown up watching all the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. I used to love to go to the movies to watch it with friends. Now I have teenagers that enjoy it as well. They have seen the originals prior to watching this one.
***spoiler alert*''*
Yes, he did touch the kids in the first one and that is why he was burned to death but Freddie was all about killing the kids not molesting them. It really put me off. They also need to bring back his face cause it looked so weird seeing a new Freddie. Either that or it will take some time to get used to the new face. As far as the movie goes yes there was action and suspense and I jumped a couple of times.

Usually I hate remakes of old movies because I find them to be redundant and I find them to be boring, but this movie was an exception. I really enjoyed this movie despite the fact that it was not as 'horrifying' as some friends of mine made it out to be. This movie was good because it had a great amount of suspense and not too many jumpy parts. I went to see this movie with my boyfriend's mom and she thought it was great as well. Overall, great movie and awesome job retelling a classic tale. One thing I didn't like, however, was the ending. I know that it just is eluding to the next chapter that is sure to come, but it really kind of made me angry!

So , I don't normally go to Horror Films due to the nature of the production quality as of late, However due to the exposure of the film and that Micheal Bay produced it , I was hoping for a new re thought out Freddy. This Franchise is sitting on a gold mine with one of the most memorable horror characters of all time. Unfortunately they have not decided to fix the obvious problems with Freddy, Bad acting, a plot that you can't follow till the end, and a really weak screen play. I'm pretty sure i'm not alone on this but I find my self rooting for freddy for the better part of the movie, as if him killing off idiotic teens is some how letting the director know that I don't care about his charaters and we are that much closer to the end.

Personally, I usually dont go to many scary movies, but when i saw the trailers for this movie, i thought it looked really good. I went with a few friends, and was on the edge of my seat from the first scene all the way to the last. I thought the effects were really good, the acting was ok, but freddy was AMAZING. I had nightmares after this movie about freddy, but i would definitely watch this movie again and again.

One of the great things about the original is the humor twisted into the film. It made you comfortable and then something would happen to make you jump. This movie was almost boring and predictable. I liked how they told more of the back story for Freddy - but it didn't really add any value. I loved the original but I haven't seen it in several years - so I'm not certain what was a remake and what was new. All I know is this Freddy is not as scary or believable as Robert England's. This would be an okay movie to watch at a slumber party - and a new generation may like the improved special effects, but again no remake can replace the original. I wouldn't waste your money.

i went in expecting bad, so i was pleasantly suprized. it was a lot "jumpier" than the original, but still good. it had a lot more backstory than the original too, but i thought that worked well. there are several scenes that were part of the original, so that was nice nod. all in all, i liked it and i am a HUGE horror fan.

Hey... back in 1984.. the original was considered really scary and soooo completely different. I think that if you are a fan of the original, you will appreciate this one quite a bit. I appreciated the fact that the storyline was similar... but not exact. And the changes.. were actually (believe it or not) an improvement. I was not expecting much... so I actually left satisfied and happily surprised. I can see a non-fan of the original not liking this. I, however, did.

This remake does what it set out to do. I found it to be quite good. The movie doesn't claim to be an exact replica of the original like many remakes try for. This one has some more original ideas behind it. It also gives a better and more detailed back story on Freddy.
The original was all about adding a campy quality to it. This time around they wanted it to be more realistic. So, they gave Freddy the look of a true burn victim.
I thought some of the acting was bad, but it is a horror movie and you can't expect it to have the best acting in the world. The original story focused on Nancy and her home. This one includes more stories about the other kids and shows more of the adults' interactions.
I had a good time because I talked through the whole thing with my friends talking about the conventions of horror and whether the movie followed them. I definitely had a few laughs at the expense of the movie.
I think anyone going into the movie thinking it will be exactly like or close to the original are set themselves up to be let down. It definitely has similarities with the original, but the story is definitely different.
As for people who think Englund is the only Freddy are being very narrow minded. Robert played Freddy one way and Jackie Earle Haley is playing him another. They are just two different preferences in acting. Robert also said he wouldn't play Freddy again. That means they had to find a replacement. I think it was definitely a good choice in Jackie, but I also think people have to go in with an open mind and with the knowledge this isn't the Freddy from the original films.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Don't listen to all the bad reviews that plague this movie. Yes, the original was better. But this recreation of the horror classic was one of the best I have ever laid my eyes on. I thought that they did a really good job with this movie. There's only a couple scenes that bear resemblance to the original, but other than that, it's all original. Jackie Earle Haley does a good job as Freddy Krueger, even though he's no Robert Englund. He brings a much darker element to the character, and it works. The dream sequences are just as good as the original albeit updated via CGI. They made me jump many times. Overall, I greatly enjoyed this movie & would definitely recommend it to fans of the original movie or horror movie fans.

What I don't understand is why Hollywood film makers feel the need to remake these classic movies. First let me say, maybe everyone needs to consider the hiring of new screenwriters/directors, by the looks of it, they are unable to obtain any new story's/movies. This movie was one of the worst remakes I have viewed to date. The actress that played Nancy was....I don't even know what to say about her. The original Nancy was strong, outspoken and a fighter. This Nancy spent most of the movie in her room, painting..really?? The other actors were okay. Robert is the ONLY freddy..PERIOD. He can NEVER be replaced, not sure why they even tried this failed attempt. New Line would have made more money remastering the orignal Movie and re-releasing it on the big screen. I am sad that I wasted my time and money for this film and I am very seriously thinking about writing New Line and asking for a refund. The only reason I went to see it in the first place was because I am a HUGE fan of the original films. If you are a fan like me and really just want to see it, wait for the dvd release, but please please, do not purchase, RENT!

The new, re-envisioned NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET is another 'stab' in a long line of attempts to rejuvenate a once successful movie franchise for a new generation and perhaps spark a bit of nostalgia in those who were/are fans of the original (I fall into the latter of the two) in hopes of drawing big box office sales for a Hollywood that is apparently bankrupt creatively.
Don't get me wrong, I am far from a purist when it comes to original works and their remakes. I thought the re-imagining of the JJ Abrams STAR TREK was amazing, inventive and added new elements into an old concept. This movie on the other hand had potential to do the same but only halfheartedly attempted to do so certain areas (delving more into Freddy's past, his relationship with the children and even showing the towns people torching him). But this movie seemed to borrow too heavily from the original Wes Craven film, so much so that the bath tub scene with Nancy was virtually shot for shot.
Another problem that I had with this film was the over use of CGI. In my opinion the corn syrup blood and the latex gore of the original movie were much more, pardon the expression, 'realistic' and made the film much more frightening. I can appreciate good CGI when it's done well, here, not so much.
The acting (much like the original) was less than stellar but that is to be expected from a slasher horror film. Jackie Earl Haley does give a chilling performance as Freddy Kruger but not so much as the 'burnt up, claw wielding, nightmare version' but as the 'alleged pedophile' human Freddy as you see him around the children of the pre-school where he works. I didn't really care about the other characters in the movie as they were not very well fleshed out and the acting was very much of the '90210' crowd.
Over all I would say a rental at best, don't waste your $11.00 on this. Instead I would rent the original and make some popcorn at home.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

While this remake had its moments of uniqueness there was too much left to be desired substance-wise. Jackie Earle Haley was a poor choice for Freddy. He lacked the charisma of Robert Englund, and while the effects on his voice were cool, oddly I often felt his voice was not deep enough. Every attempt this movie made failed. My three stars are for a good try and for the opening scene. It starts out promising but flops by the end. While they gave you flashbacks and background, I almost felt Freddy as the demon melted into the background while shiny, pretty, young people glossed in the forefront. Michael Bay did "Friday the 13th" justice in that remake, but this attempt really disappointed me. What made this movie bad for me wasn't the story, but just the Freddy character. This guy just didn't have it. Take away the sound effects and there would be nothing; his portrayal had no intensity whatsoever. Notable highlights are the music and sound effects.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
