This movie reminds me of of "Goonies" with an updated seriousness. There were some good laughs, cute moments, startling action segments and some good old-fashioned fun. It's rated PG-13 but other than the many mentions of marajuana, and some potty-mouth kid talk, a 10 year old could have no problem with the fear factor. It's a good family movie (bigger kids).
Of course it's different from the book... they always are. It was pretty darn good though. I thought the acting was really good and they found the actors to play all the workers as I had pictured them in my head. Reese wasn't exactly my first choice by any means to play the lead, but she did just fine. If you didn't read the book you will definitely love the movie. If you can let your imagination have some fun.. you will enjoy it regardless of reading the book first.
It was different. Some action. Good characters. The only thing that bugged me was the inconsistency of the accents. Very confusing. German? then Brittish? Then Southern? It was kind of mess. But It had merit. If you are a stickler and a perfectionist, don't bother. If you have patience and imagination, you will enjoy it.
sometimes you have to let the artist show you his/her interpretation of a story and let them make it their own. This was a great movie. So what if it's different? If you can avoid comparisons and open your mind to change you will absolutely love this version. A beautiful, sad, hopeful movie played by a stellar cast. If you like Brittish period pieces.. you will truly enjoy this movie.
You will definitely be "startled" several times during the movie...maybe jumping out of your seat even ... which makes it fun. It's not too scary. We had a really good time.
I gave it 2 stars instead of none because the effects were good (the aliens and spacecraft) but they took a basic storyline and dragged it out for 2 hours. Shooting was endless. The dialogue was corny. The worst part for me was the overly dramatic symphonic score that was so predictable I could have hummed along on repetition alone. Soooo cliche.
If you went to high school in the 80's... you will probably appreciate this. It keeps the 80's feel not only for the costume design, but also the storytelling. It's like "16 Candles" meets a funnier "St.Elmo's Fire". I almost wanted to leave 20 minutes in and see something else... but it got funnier as the movie progressed. I'm glad i stayed.
I expected this to kind of corny, based on the previews. They managed to take a potentially ridiculously out-dated concept and make it very funny. We laughed alot. The story was really nice and the "Adjustment" crew were quirky and made us all laugh. Definitely a good time to be had. Many people were clapping in the theater.
Danny Boyle managed to make 127 hrs of solitude extremely endurable and thought provoking. I really liked James Franco and wouldn't have expected this from him... but he did very well w/ the solitude and insight on the character. I enjoyed it. Definitely recommend it. It also has a real "Danny Boyle"-style.
I thought this movie was pretty interesting. The story was good and I was surprised to find myself wondering what was going to happen. that's a good thing. However, the corny sound effects were completely unnecessary. It would have been scarier with silence. The acting was pretty good too.
