this movie had me enthralled from very first, total non-stop all the way to the end. You must see this movie with the IMAX 3D experience. The quality and sound was awesome. I felt as though, at times, I was actually in the movie. the special effects were top notch, as was the acting. I havent stopped thinking about it since I saw it three days ago. Even though the movie was long, I couldnt believe that it was actually over.
I do not recommend the food stuff and drinks, since it IS so long, a bathroom break would lose vital parts of the movie.
I for one cant wait to see what James Cameron does next with it, if anything at all.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This was easily the most extraordinary movie I have ever seen. This one MUST be seen on the big screen, preferably on the IMax, and most certainly in 3D. The subtle nuances are so precise and true to life. I completely got lost in the film. I loved watching the characters grow, mature and come into their own through their experiences. They literally "become" before your eyes. There is something for every taste. The action scenes are spectatular while the personal interaction is breath taking. The message is beautiful without being sappy. This is a movie you feel rather than just watch. I find myself thinking about it long after having left the theater, for days and days after. This is a "must see" for every type of audiance.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Definitely see this one in 3-D, preferably I-Max; the black frame around the screen at non-I-Max theaters may appear to cut some of the picture off (according to my roommate...?). It's true the plot is predictable, but the anticipation actually psyches you up because the effects and cinematogrophy are that good. I also agree an intermission would have been greatly appreciated. As the movie ends, you'll see a good number of people racing out of the theater about to wet themselves they've been holding it in so long. Getting down to brass tacks, you have to see this movie, it is awesome.

I think my mouth was open and I was squeezing my husband's hand throughout most of this movie. The graphics were amazing and seamlessly integrated with the live action. The Na'vi were so beautiful and engaging I couldn't take my eyes off of them. Although the plot was somewhat predictable, it still had enough suspenseful moments to keep me at the edge of my seat. I loved that there were no huge names in this movie, other than Sigourney Weaver who is a consummate actress. I watched it in 3-D IMAX which made it even more spectacular. I was completely drawn into the characters, the story and the visual aspects of this movie and I cannot wait to see it again!!!

I am NOT a sci-fi, futuristic and/or 3-D movie goer. However, this was an excellent movie and I recommend it to young and old alike. I believe grandparents will enjoy this movie as much (if not even more) than their kids and grandkids. Be sure the theater you choose has 3-D capabilities; I saw it at an IMAX in 3-D. Solid plot has you pulling for the underdog.

This film is a visual masterpiece, and SO incredibly creative with the language and scenery. Any talk of racism, or anti-religion is ridiculous. Sigourney Weaver is excellent, as always. Michelle Rodriguez is "re-born" if you will after her alcogol issues. This is easily one of the best movies, storyline, effects, acting (especially the voice overs) that I have ever seen. Highly recommended!

The plot is pretty predictable (think Dances with Wolves) with an important difference, and at times feels too long, but the production values are excellent. 3-D is not merely a gimmick but seamlessly part of the storytelling.
Some might feel uncomfortable as to whose gruesome deaths the film is making them cheer for, but in my opinion that is all well and good.
A word to the wise: Do not drink beer, or too much of any liquid, before the movie. An intermission would've been nice.

This was truly an "experience". The plot is pretty predictable, but this is still a 5 star movie because of the exciting manner in which the 3D is utilized. You really feel like you are on another planet, brushing up against the plants, or flying on a beast's back.
I hope this signals the direction future 3D movies will be heading.

I love it! The adventure of a beautiful new world with giant gorgeous beings was thrilling. The festival of creativity gone wild with special effects and technology that was virtually seamless was impressive and exhilarating.
Although the world was new, the story was of the old and tired so called civilized world coming to wreck havoc on yet another beautiful people, culture and land. But this time the point of view supported the humanity of the indigenous beings.
The 3D puts you in the movie. I want to go back, again and again. And I will.

I found this movie to be great. Never having seen an IMAX movie before, it just amazed me how I had to look everywhere just like in real life to get all the action. The graphics were first rate and the story was very cool and sadly too true in our history. But it is a must see. Some of us folks clapped our hands at the end of the movie. Last time I did that was Star Wars. The first trilogy!

Up until last week I had not seen a movie that I could comfortably say was the best of 2009. And then James Cameron's new 3D science fiction epic literally blew my mind. It was an outstanding treat to see the beautiful & incredibly rendered plants, wildlife, and people of the writer-director's imaginary planet of Pandora. The story was easy to follow, emotionally compelling, & incredibly satisfying at its conclusion.
I see Avatar as opening new metaphorical doors to what future fantasy & science fiction films could be. It was like I had glimpsed the future of cinema & I really liked what I saw. If you don't see "Avatar" in cinemas before it has gone, you are doing yourself a real disservice. It was worth the wait.

The blend of reality and computer generated has taken movie making and entertainment to a new level.
This movie does carry messages that, for those who choose to hear and see them, may well call them to action.
Sure the story is made up of scenarios that have appeared elsewhere over the years, the human race tends to have to be told more than once and in more ways than one before it "gets it". See this movie more than once and check how it makes you feel at each stage, then you will know what you have to do or not, the choice is yours.

Drove a few extra miles to see Avatar in 3D Imax and it was probably worth it. The technology will probably revolutionize movie making for the big screen action movie genre. My family definitely did discuss colonialism and greed and similar issues on the drive home, which are the core issues of the film. The plot was fairly simplistic, noble savages versus evil corporation and military goons. Likable lug wins feisty girl's heart. My personal pet peeve was that the scenery was so fairyland-like. Way, way too Disney-esque. But all this said, it was an incredibly immersive experience, well worth the price and the time.

Avatar is a fantastic and beautiful ride. It has many wonderful moments of discovery and joy and loss. From a technology standpoint it is amazing and Zoe Saldana did an excellent job bringing her character and the Na'vi people life.
BUT, in the days since walking away from the theater I get more and more discouraged and angry with it. With that much time and money, couldn't Cameron have written a more complex and interesting story with layers and a less contrived set of circumstances? Now I just feel like I was being brainwashed while distracted by a wonderful image.
See it, enjoy it, but don't take it for more than it is.

A very good movie that could have been great.
I recommend that you should see it for yourself.
The art and science fiction is great but the 3D isn't as dramatic as most 3D movies in terms of objects leaving the screen, etc. Also, the story is not as connected as it could have been and it appears to use a bunch of previous science fiction movies characters, devices and themes.

Incredible effects. So happy I saw it in 3-D Imax- really unparralleled. The world, people and language Cameron creates are simply amazing. Too cool. I highly recommend the experience, and that you get there early. However, it's true the story is a little much. I feel like it is a little insulting to people who actually feel a deep connection with our earth- trivializes them a bit. Their home gets destroyed, most of them die, but the American gets the hot chick in the end, so it's happy. That said, I enjoyed the heck out of that movie and I would recommend it to anyone.

The story was the typical "Good VS. Evil", comic book scenario. Nothing profound here, but the visuals, more than made up for anything lacking in the script. A truly unique visual experience for me, which is bound to be copied in years to come. It would not be complete without a 60'x80' screen at the Bridge IMax theatre. A little more money, but definitely worth it. The back row split the screen right at dead center. I can't imagine how anyone could watch from the front row, but there were people there. There are only 11 rows in the whole theatre.

I saw the IMAX 3D version and enjoyed it for the special effects, action, and sentimentality. However, the plot was simplistic and a few of the main characters were cartoonish. The storyline seemed contrived and stilted with cliche environmentalist and anti-capitalist messages. It could have been an outstanding movie, but missed the mark by being so shallow. Basically, it was General Custer fights the Indians while Pocahontas falls in love with John Smith. Or, maybe it was" rogue GI Joe" slaughters the innocent "cat people" of Pandora who beat him when Tarzan comes to their aid.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
