I'm not a sci-fi fan and was not planning to see this movie. Maybe I'd rent it when it came out later. Several of my friends recommended it, so I went. WOW! It's not hard core sci-fi. (I kept thinking about Sogourny Weaver in Aliens, but this is nothing like that.) The movie is beautiful, colorful and imaginative. We saw it in 3D Imax. I only jumped once throughout the whole movie, so the 3D is not too in-your-face. The plot was predictable, but still a good story. Movie is long, but it is so beautiful, I didn't mind. Great special effects. Go see it, you won't be disappointed.

This film was a lovely surprise for me. In order to avoid spoilers, I did not read anything about the movie before seeing it. Of course, the trailers and posters lead to me having some expectations about it, none of which had me anticipating such a beautiful, exciting love story. Love between "humanoids", and love for the wonders of nature. It is a gorgeous allegory of the destruction of the earth, and I highly recommend the film. The only reason I am granting 4 instead of 5 starts is the length of the film. Thirty minutes could have been shaved off without sacrificing crucial content in my view, and there were a couple of bits that dragged a bit.

The film is a typical Hollywood formulaic fairy tale, but the execution is amazing and it has a good message. I was amazed at the special effects and the imagination and ingenuty of its creators. I liked the story and loved the message about Mother Earth. Kudos to Mr. cameron for this one!

I was TOTALLY blown away by this movie!!! I saw it the first time in "regular" film, the second time in Imax 3-D. I LOVED IT!!!
This movie was STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFULL!!! I was AMAZED!!!
I reccomend 3-D HIGHLY!!! I saw things I did not see the first time around. There were quite a few times that I was brought to tears, for the shear beauty of the film to the extreme sadness that it has.
The second time I watched it I became a bit more critical of the script. You CAN read ALOT into it. From the destruction of the environment to anti military to a love story.
I don't know if James Cameron has an "agenda" for this movie, but
I just prefer to think of it as a GORGEOUS movie.
I reccomend this film to EVERYONE!!!

The graphics in this movie are awesome. The story line is predictable but it was a great show. My only complaint/issue is that we had to sit in the second row from the screen and it left the 3D experience lacking at the least. The show was sold out and those were the only seats availabe. I wish people would seat from the center of a row out not leaving an empty seat here and there. Had that happened we could have sat up higher. I just know now to arrive very early.

I'm not ever quick to rate ANYTHING a maximum rating because, typically, there are shortcomings with virtually anything that's ever assessed/appraised/rated. I honestly didn't see a single aspect of this movie that would have caused me to subtract from a maximum review rating though, and that is a rare feat for a movie to achieve with me.
The only complaint I DID have was against the actual IMAX THEATRE I saw the movie in, and NOT the movie itself (had to do with 3D glasses being re-used multiple times between multiple movie-goers and the inadequate/non-existant cleaning between those multiple uses), but this had NOTHING really to do with the movie itself (which, I reiterate, was completely 5 star!).

Okay, I admit I was not at all thrilled about going to see this movie. My husband has been wanting to see AVATAR since the 1st commercial so I finally gave in. Oh my goodness, I was not only amazed of the story behind this movie but the beauty of it as well. We saw AVATAR 3-D IMAX--OMG! I am not at all a sci fi type person, but this is a must go see movie regardless. Yes this movie is 2hrs & 40 min but once thes movie starts - you don't want it to end. I have already posted this on my facebook and have many comments. Go see it.. You won't be dissatisfied. Make sure you go about an 1 hr or so early. We went 40 min early and the line was wrapped around the theatre. Still ended up with great seats tho. Don't miss it..

I saw this last night and it was amazing. The whole 3D IMAX experience was amazing, and I felt totally immersed. The special effects and overall visual aspect of the movie are excellent. The plot has been done before, but I still felt involved with the characters.

I went to see this movie with some reservations as to what I heard was an old/trite story line, and really enjoyed the new spin on what might be an old story concept, but the character development here was so strong, I became passionate about the ending. It is almost impossible to express how amazing the visual effects are when seeing Avatar in both IMAX and 3D, but it is just spectacular and worth every penny. I was truly in awe.

Awesome is the word for it. I would definately recommend this movie to anyone including children 10 and up. Also, seeing it at the IMAX 3D for unbelievable effects is a must. It was action packed about good versus evil. It was a love story that portrayed our purpose of life; to love one another, to show great compassion for one another, to forgive and to strive for peace and happiness. I definately will see it again before it leaves the theater.

To be honest, I was not interested in seeing this movie after watching the trailers. Animation sci-fi flicks aren't my thing, but after I heard a few people raving about how great it was I decided to give it a shot. Wow, am I glad! The IMAX 3-D experience made it an awesome experience and the action kept the plot moving along. I didn't realize I had been in a 2hr 40 min movie. Go see it!

Avatar 3D in IMAX was a great event, and a worthwhile experience. The movie plot itself, while similar to Dances with Wolves and heavy on the 'slightly crazy evil military leader' aspect, had a fast pace, and WONDERFUL effects. I had to keep ducking as foreground objects would float into my field of vision during action scenes!One reservation I had concerns the whole IMAX experience. I cannot beleive that ANYONE could fully enjoy the IMAX experience while being in the first 4 rows. During several points in the movie, I purposefully looked away from the action to see what the sides of the screen held, and it was indeed beautiful. I don't see why the theatre would let people sit in those seats, since they will likely not enjoy the experience

People of "Pandora" are very tall and very slim but muscular. Did they use real people or is it computer graphics? Mind boggling! Everything is on such a large scale, it is unbelivable! Is there a "making of Avatar" anywhere? I would like to see that. Everyone should see it atleast once.

We watched Avatar at an IMAX 3d viewing comparable, but slightly smaller, to the Mall of GA screen. Unbelievable. The most complete movie viewing experience of my life. Life hanging for some, perspective changing for all. This is the movie experience that will be the standard for the next 30-40 years. You felt alive in the movie.
Combine panoramic shots comparable to Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" and the gritty reality of Liam Neeson's "Taken"; combined with the savage passion of "Daniel Day Lewis' "The Last of the Mohicans", and you have something that still doesn't quite describe or equal Avatar. This movie experience is a movie goers meth.

saw this movie on the imax screen after trying for weeks to get weekend tickets. that says alot. straight and to the point. this movie is a keeper and i am getting one when it comes out on dvd. loved the 3d special effects. james cameron can make 1 movie every 10 years if this is what we get!! the story line was just as beautiful. yes, you know where the story is going at times, but that is ok. i went to be entertained and boy was i.

It's true that the story didn't break any new ground, but the effects were amazing. The IMAX 3-D itself was worth the price of admission. I've never seen a movie like it. The 2 hours and 40 minutes went by very quickly. Even though it's rated PG-13, I don't recall much that would be inappropriate for a kid. There's a little bit of language (hardly any that I remember) and, of course, violence from the battle scenes, but nothing horrific. I'm a pretty conservative parent and I'd let my kids see it. They'd be amazed by the visual effects.

I really enjoyed Avatar and saw it in 3D Imax. I am not sure that it was necessary to have the distraction of the 3D glasses and for me it made some things actually harder to see.
The story was not unique but the twist of placing it in a future world made it a new experience. If you are not a fan of fantasy or sci fi you probably would not enjoy this quite as much. The visual effects are amazing and I think would still be powerful, even without the 3D.
I would definitely recommend it.

The graphics in this movie are absolutely brilliant and breathtaking. They alone make the movie worth the heafty $15price tag. But the plot development is weak.
The blatent liberal agenda threatened to wash away all of the beauty and potential within the movie imbued by it's dreamlike imagery. I half expected a plug for saving the polarbears in the middle of the movie.
Though the lifestyle of the Nari was inspiring the sharp contrast to the villified humanity was unrealistic.
Without the leftest agenda this movie would have been OFF THE CHARTS amazing.
