I was so entertained that I didn't get up to pee or get popcorn.. 3-D was spectacular. I didn't expect any profound plot experience so wasn't disappointed. I was sorry when it was over.

This movie took me by total suprise. I had heard it was awesome, but I had no idea how awesome. It wasn't just the 3-D graphics... but the story was also completely intriguing and my eyes never left the screen from start to finish.

This is not my type of movie. But I loved it so much I went to see it agan. Long movies are not my style however I did not feel it was long. I hope there isa sequel. Mr. Cameran..... you are the best movie maker ever. I am 57 and have seen many movies but this by far was my favorite ever. The story line was beautiful, the charaters were warm and loveable. The color and effects left me breathless and many scenes had me crying. Loved this movie.

I have had many moments of awe over my movie going life but this possibly tops them all. This new 3D technology is just spellbinding. The story, though somewhat predictable, was engaging and uplifting. The performances were excellent. The imagery and scenery was breathtaking. The action was mezmerizing. When it was all over, my friends and I just sat there speechless. My brother saw the movie in 2D and was duely impressed but I say don't miss seeing this excellent film in 3D. You will see the future of movies now.

We first saw this movie in a 3d theater - not IMAX. Loved the movie but heard the 3D effects were even better in an IMAX theater. Went again and loved it even more. We are not scifi fans normally and initially thought the movie looked almost "cartoony" and way to scifi for our liking. However - wrong!!!! We loved the movie - and felt entertained from beginning to end. The best spent 3 hours of entertainment we have had ever at a movie theater. Kudos to this movie - but see it in IMAX 3D!!!

It was pretty amazing! (I want those illuminated plants in my backyard...) Reminded me a bit of a Cirque du Soleil performance. Awesome costumes, characters, stunts and music. All right up close in your face!

Absolutely the most creative movie I have ever seen. A must see in Imax 3-D. Story line got a little hokie at the end but you don't see this movie for the plot! Special effects are totally unbelievable! A must-see for anyone who likes sci-fi! I just loved it!! Would love to go to Pandora sometime.

Extraordinary. Not only did James Cameron bring together historical themes, real human emotion, and a beautiful truth of energy flow, but he made a real dramatic film in 3D. You didn't sit there apart from the characters, you were almost like a ghost as they were telling you a story, up close. He made the character of Jake Sully absolutely sweet, caring, loving, ambitious, and pure, even though he came from a corrupt world. The scenes were masterfully projected. It felt like all the science, the history, and emotions of our lives were perfectly bound together. Just excellent!

I must say I really wasn't blown away with this movie. The story line was your run of the mill good guys verves bad guys, with your normal ending. The thing I that really bothered me was yes it was in 3D, but really not any different or better quality as some of the 3D shows I've seen in your theater 10-15 years ago. I really don't understand all the hype. It was a let down for me.

I can honesly say I am unable to give a fair review to the movie because of the physical problems that were visited upon me during the Imax showing. I am prone to motion sickness, and if I had anticipated the effects of this film's almost constant motion, I would have medicated before the film, or perhaps considered a non-Imax presentation. In addition the 3-D glasses wrecked havoc with my eyes, giving me an intense headache that lasted hours. The third part of the whammy was the base system of the sound was set so high I had vibrations in my liver. Other than that, the play was fine, Mrs. Lincoln.

The IMAX 3D experience was amazing, for 30 minutes or so I have to say any swift cuts led my brain to freeze briefly, but overall it was a totally fantastic piece of film making from a technical standpoint. I was actually extremely impressed that Cameron didn't JUST throw shots in for 3D wow-factor, his restraint was well used.
As for the film - well, I'd put it somewhere just north of predictable garbage. I wish Cameron (like George Lucas) would just let someone else write his scripts. He tells a good yarn, but some of the dialogue would shame a first year film student, and the last 45 minutes of the film is so laughable I thought it had descended into parody.

My all time fav movie in all respects! Awesome story, characters, acting, cinematography, and special effects. We loved it! My husband tends to be an "action movie" kind of person, and he was riveted to Avatar. He says it is the best move he has ever seen!

I thought that this movie was absolutely amazing. I do not like war movies at all and usually shun them, however considering the theme and the hype I considered it worth looking at. I loved it! And I am pretty picky and sometimes critical. The fact that the hero's fallow their hearts and that the victim/underdogs win helps a lot to mitigate the violence. It has moved into my top 3 favorite movies.

LOVED this movie. Special effects, colors, characters, storyline combined was wonderful. I hate all wars and this one reinforced the sadness and waste of life over greed, but the triumph of spirit and how even conflicting areas of nature/life come together for the good makes you feel like it's possible. My kind of movie. Gotta see it again.

I thought the movie was good but overhyped. IMAX 3D experience was awesome..... I kept thinking that the transformation from human to the Avatar reminded me an awful lot like the Matrix....very similar in the premise. The story was good with some underlying themes such as environmentalism. Don't think the movie should be seen by those under 12 or so.

Best movie I've ever seen. Only movie, with the exception of Star Wars in 1977, that I've PAID to see in a theatre twice. Has everything anyone could possibly want. Except, maybe, fuzzy Disney characters. Outstanding story, oustanding tech, oustanding actors, I've even enjoyed watching Giovani Ribisi grow into a decent actor, sorta. Gonna be a hard act to follow.

Aside from the cliche, populist plot and undercurrents (evil corporation, overzealous military, forbidden love, save-the-planet, etc.) this is a must see movie because it will change how 3D is received in the market place. The quality of the seamless animation between CG and human actors combined with the impact of 3D will drive the demand for 3D broadcast television and future 3D cinematic productions. 5 stars on the production quality and awe-factor, 3 stars on the story. However, if the story line required thought it may have been too much to process at once! Kudos to James Cameron for changing a movie from entertainment to an experience.

the big question - will the movie hold up without it?
I think so - and not just with us Sci-Fi nuts who are dying to get out hands on the DVD so we can count the number of classics that Cameron riffed on (thank you for NOT having Grace put on one of those Space Marine mecha suits, by the way...)
I would love to believe that this movie will do for the Twitter generation what 'Silent Spring' did for mine, and snap people out of their little paper-bag universes...
but even if it's only the FernGully of its generation - that's not so bad, is it?

I have seen a lot of movies both good and bad but this movie touched me in a way that I can't put into words. The scenes were so graphic that you knew that they were real. The characters became a part of you and you felt the pain of the loss when the father died and the home tree was destroyed. You felt passion of the people as they connected to the mother. It is a movie that all people should see.

You have to see this movie, especially 3D at IMAX. The effects are inredible, easily the best I have ever seen. I enjoyed the entire movie, even had tears in my eyes a few times. The only thing I do not like in a movie, is the subtle USA military bashing...just like Happy Feet was a global warming agenda. Just make a mivie and do not include your political opinions. I love our country and I love our Military!

I am not normally a sci-fi/fantasy movie lover so I really went to see Avatar in Imax 3D because of hype. My socks were knocked off my feet! The special effects were AMAZING and the story was beautiful. I left feeling completely satisfied and wanting to see more. I just went again for the second time last night and I left feeling amazed again! This movie is incredible!

Well, I know I'm in the minority here, but I did NOT love this movie. I didn't intend to see it, but my husband saw it, loved it, and thought I should see it, too. Let me first say that I am very sensitive to violence in any form. I knew going into this movie that there would be violence, but I was not aware of the extent of it. This is really a glorified war movie. The beauty of the 3D Imax experience was outweighed by the violence and basic story line. There are a lot of stock characters in the film. All in all, I wish I hadn't watched it, but I gave it three stars because there are some truly beautiful/breathtaking moments with the 3D effects. If you are a sensitive person, though, I would steer clear of this film.
