Great movie. It has fantastic realistic graphics in 3D and a lot of action. 3D is the way to see this movie. The movie shows the nature of man, love, hate, greed, compasion, courage, and others.

Most important, this film did not feel phony, it provides a honest, exciting, and moving experience in which I, the viewer, feel as though I am part of it.
The storyline, acting, and visual experiences make this an unforgettable film/experience.
Unfortunately, I saw the 3-D version and am still struggling with eye pain the next morning.. leading to a decision to only view non-3-D versions in the future.
Additional note: having Sigourney Weaver, who in her younger years fought the Alien, now as an older scientist reaching out to seeking to understand these aliens was a superb casting decision and added to the identification with the content of the film.

Cameron created a lavish spectacle and should walk off with every special effects Oscar offered. However, the plot is a standard war movie meets a "Silent Running" plea for responsibility. The script and dialogue are laughable and I could see every major plot point coming from miles away. Did that stop me from enjoying the spectacle? Not much. I liked that the mercenaries looked like an actual army but also felt it was odd that only one woman would go rogue when faced with the mission. Also, seeing Stephen Lang strut around and bluster was a major treat.

Movie kept repeating the same ideas: green earth & anti war. I DO AGREE on that. Too much war footage.I get the point. A sad commentary on our society that we spend that kind of money to make a movie like that, instead of using the money, or even half that(give tax credit for donation), to pay down the national debt. Hopefully , however, the movie did put some deserving people to work. Too violent for any age "kids", of course, and they are the ones who need the message!

Don't like science fiction? Not really interested in special effects? My advice is to give this movie a try anyway (and IMAX 3-D is a treat - even the previews are fascinating). Yes, the effects are fantastic, to the point where even the Lord of the Rings trilogy seems a little dated technologically. But beyond the world that has been superbly created by Cameron and team, there is a finely crafted plot delivered by some very capable actors. It is a three-hour movie that flies by in a very satisfying way.

Wonderful, fabulous, exciting! A must see in an IMAX 3D theater. Everyone should experience this type of movie. There were times when I thought the characters were standing right in front of me. Hopefully, we will get more 3D movies in the future.

The story lines to this movie are age old but stories that need to be retold and retold. 4 of us went to 3D IMAX and the special effects are simply amazing. James Cameron and Company scored another HOME RUN with superb detail.It is simply thrilling. Must be seen in 3D Imax to get full effect!Highly recommend!

Special effects and the 3D experience, including some aerial footage are very interesting but only held my attention for half an hour. The plot is very predictable and full of cliches. The characters are not interesting. The dialogues are very cheesy and predictable. Don't waste your time.

By seeing it in Imax 3D, it felt like you were right there with the characters. It's not the "old fashion" 3D where things are jumping at you. It's more like you feel you are sitting in the scene with them. (Although I kept on wanting to swat away the "bugs" that were flying around)
Great movie in the theater with this format. I don't know if I would have enjoyed it as much on a regular screen.

I was on the fence as to whether or not to see this movie... Thought that it was over-hyped and wasn't all that interested. One weekday, I was off from work and figured I'd go see it in IMAX just to see what the fuss was about. LOVED IT! It was absolutely PHENOMENAL! The graphics were simply amazing. I've seen it twice now and I'm planning on going again this weekend before they pull it from IMAX!

One of the best movies I have ever seen. Something for everyone; action, suspense and a killer love story.
I cannot wait to see it again and tell everyone who will listen to go see it. If you have in IMAX 3D do it as it is well worth the extra money for the ticket and seat close to the front 4th or 5th row...unbeleivable!

The Cupertino IMAX screen was terrible. I saw Avatar in 3D on a regular screen and it was much better. I certainly got ripped off and recommend that you avoid the Cupertino AMC IMAX theater.

Just the best movie I've ever seen!!!!!!
The special effects are fantastic and it is almost impossible to tell when you're looking at real people versus the animated type. 3D in general isn't perfected yet, but it is very close.
GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!! It is of epic proportions.

It is an experience that you never forget! the 3D IMAX make you loos your self into a new dimention. The story and the visual feel like a Dejavu of us and how we should be. There is a deep messege in the story and if you go and did not get it then you are not ready and it is ok, enjoy the fun ride!

Avatar is by far the best movie I have seen. The graphics were fantastic and the story it's self was inspiring. I would describe it as a futuristic "cowboy's and indians", I would see it more than once and buy the DVD when it comes out, and I don't say that about many movies. It made me happy, sad, angry and laugh all in 2hr and 30 min. Everyone must see this movie. James Cameron has out done himself

Incredible in IMAX 3D. You lose yourself in the scenery and the story. But I did not expect the amount of action and violence based on the trailers I had seen. Violence may be a little too much for PG13 rating and definitely too much for younger kids. But this is definitely a notch above Lord of the Rings movies which were also incredible. IMAX 3D puts you into the movie like you are an observer actually there. Regular 3D may also be good but for $2 more I would go with IMAX if you can get in!

I found the IMAX theater in Manchester disappointing -- not at all the experience I was expecting & had gotten at other IMAX locations -- more like the Cinemax 14 in Milford, but with lousy seats.

I have seen all the 'best movie ever' classics since The Wizard of OZ, Sound Of Music, 2001, 2010, S-Wars etc. This movie simply beats them all on so many levels. The immersive 3D and effects are incredible! Cameron is truly a genius! The story line and underlying theme are somewhat predictable, but regardless laid out so very well that you won't notice. You may not laugh too much, and if you don't cry, you will be holding back your tears and wiping the corners of your eyes. The only reason it seemed long is holding back the bathroom break because all the soda..
If EVERYONE saw this movie the world would be a better place!!

The effects are spectacular, but the plot is overly simplistic. Retreads the "humanity is greedy, materialistic, and apathetic" theme of a couple recent *cough* *cough* Pixar *cough* movies. No real plot twists, but an enjoyable ride nonetheless.

Saw it in IMAX3D in Columbia, MD. Screen was not as big as I was expecting (thought of the Ben Franklin Institute in Philly). The imagery in this movie is unbelievable. However, virtually no character development and the rush to visually wow rather than develop the story better really hurt the overall value of the movie.
But a great gotta-see nonetheless.
