Do you like eye candy? See the movie.
Do you dislike movies that have a deus ex machina? Skip it. This one has such in the most literal sense.
Are you capable of enjoying things despite flaws? See it. It's from a dream the guy had, fer cryin' out loud.
If you demand thoroughly thoughtful tales, skip it
See it in 3D. It's not gimmicky 3D stuff, just excellent immersion.
Personally, I liked it. Most of the folks I knew liked it.
"But, Kit, why did you give it 4/5?"
Somebody did something that has only been done a handful of times in recorded history (movie lore history). It should have been an epic event. Instead, it was an anticlimactic cut-to-black.

You don't often get amazing special effects AND a magnificent storyline, but Avatar has it all. This movie is on an epic scale equal to the level of Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. The only downside to the 160-minute length is that the end leaves you wanting more! Incredible as it may sound, Cameron put the $300 million budget to good use and what we get is a special effects extravaganza that surpasses anything we've ever seen on the big screen. You should see this movie is 3D, preferably on an IMAX screen to get the full experience.

Just saw the move in IMAX 3D. I am an Apple certified trainer who specializes in motion graphics and animation. I can say without reservation that Avatar is the most visually stunning movie I have ever seen. The line between computer generated and reality has been blurred to the point where it was honestly difficult to tell the difference. The story is solid and the acting is above average. Cameron has to be considered one of the true visionary directors of all time. This is well worth the money to see it in IMAX you will not be disappointed.

My visit to Pandora was amazing.. The movie is not you are watching someone else.. Its like you are part of the set and everything is happening around you.. What a great experience. Incredible... I think this is teh future of movies... Dont just show me a story.. but take me in the story.. Imagine any world war movie in 3D.... Will go again

With as much hype & buzz that Avatar has garnered over the last 2+ years it is hard to believe that the film comes close to meeting anyone's expectations.....but ....it meets & exceeds them! Breathtaking, Immersive, ground-breaking, innovative, epic, visionary - are all apt adjectives and still they do not adequately capture the extent of James Cameron's achievement! 160 minutes fly by and no one wants to leave their seat for fear of missing something! Cameron has created an alien world of lush, exotic efflorescent flora & fauna that seems but a simple leap from our own....and it is....all you need is a movie ticket. All aboard - next stop - Pandora!

We saw this on a IMAX screen 3D at midnight. 2hr 40 min and home at 3am. I would do it over and over. The movie had a great deal of conflicting agendas that kept you glued to the screen. The graphics were fantastic.

This was a wonderful experience. It was piece of art. Avatar created an amazing, and beautiful world full of full of colorful plants and interesting trees, but inhabited by dangerous creatures that were lethal to the human invaders who pursued the moons mineral wealth at any cost. See this in 3D.

This movie was take very seriously and the results were stunning!!! James Cameron put every detail possible into this intriguing film. The entire movie has a sense of wonder about it and does not fail to deliver. If you have the chance to see it in IMAX 3D, do it! The 3D we have all thought used to exist, has been redefined. The characters and objects seem so real and really engages you with the characters.

I have never seen a movie in 3-d before and we saw it at the IMAX in 3-d. not only was the movie spectacular the effects were breath taking. I would recommend this movie to everyone i know. The only thing I would not recommend is little kids should not see it in 3-d. My 9 years old was kind of freaking out because it is right in your face.

Only Cameron can top himself and he doesn't disappoint with this one. There are really no aspects of this movie that deserve less than an 'A' rating. Cameron has raised the bar again for effects & filmmaking again. Bravo! Well done!

The CGI characters in this movie really raise the bar a few notches when it comes to the technology. At times I felt they could have been real flesh & bone beings.
The story was solid, but felt as it was lacking a certain something that I can't put my finger on. My favorite human character was Colonel Miles Quaritch played by Stephen Lang. I think he stole the show in every scene he was in, he was shown as being a slightly one sided character, I think i t would have served the story better to show more complexity in his character!

Do not see this is 2d. I wouldn't recommend seeing it in anything outside of IMAX3d, so will say the out of date tech doesn't probably use the 3d like Real3D uses but the size of it, the scope of the universe, the beauty of the environment lends itself to the all encompassing IMAX screen. The story itself will not surprise you, you will not be left sad or confused. You know exactly where this film will take you and if you allow James Cameron to tell you a story through incredible visuals you will have one of the most immersing theater going experiences of your lives. The dialogue is lame, the lessons are cheap but it made me love the theater going experience again

This is one movie you wll never forget! Movies like this are rare. Obviously visually stunning, but it goes further than that. It's a story that really gets into the heart. Love, action, characters you care about, epic, breathtaking feast for the imagination and your spirit. James Cameron has a big hit on his hands, Definitely see this in 3D IMAX -- anything else is just a shadow of the real thing. What a true joy and lots of fun too!

It was simple, fun, and had morals. It had romance, humor, action you name it. I loved all the characters especially the Banshees. As for The future of film hype? TRUE. This is undoubtedly the absolute future of CGI in film. You cannot trust what you see in the trailers on your hdtv visually. You really have to see it in IMAX 3D! Only down side is I feel I will compare every live action/cgi enhanced film to the greatness that is in AVATAR. And if you dont agree with me, picture your favorite film that mixes cgi, with the avatar treatment, in 3d.

My son purchased the tickets at $16 each for Imax 3D and I told my wife "NO MOVIE IS WORTH $16"!
I was wrong. The movie was exceptional from the beginning. It is without a doubt the best movie I have ever seen. I cannot wait to see it again on the big screen and will definitely purchase when it comes out on Blue Ray.

Or, a very good acid trip without the acid. Cameron has done it again! It's best seen in IMAX DIGITAL 3D, clearer images, awesome sound. Oh, and Sigorney Weaver (ALIENS) is in top form in a energetic performance. But, this is really an CGI/3D extravaganza folks, make no mistake. And, it's easy to see where every penny of it's reported $400 million budget went. Oh yeah, the story is decent as well.

I have seen hundreds of movies in the past 10 years, and many of them excellent sci-fi films, and I had my list of all time favorites. But Avatar has now scored First Place and I can honestly say without any doubt it is the Best Movie I've Ever Seen, for every imaginable reason. This movie has erased the line between "real" and "animated", and I'm even wondering if the whole movie was real, including the Navi aliens, or was it all futuristic/now animation.
My wife and our two boys (9 and 13) saw Avatar this evening, and I feel that everyone of every age should see this movie for every positive reason imaginable. I hope the makers of this Epic earn a Billion dollars in box office sales, because they earned it and they deserve it.

I almost can't put into words how amazing and beautiful this film is. Visually, it blew my mind away. The Na'vi feel just as real as the actual actors. The music just adds to the film, and plays on your emotions at the right times. It is worth the money to see it in IMAX 3D. I talked about this movie for an hour straight afterwords cause my friends and I couldn't shut up about how much we loved it.

Well, I've seen quite a few movies this decade, but this trumps most, if not all of them. I loved the movie. The plot was relatively straightforward, but the way it was presented was top notch, along with everything else in the movie. James Cameron successfully created a new universe and made it feel like you could see everything there. The only downside of the movie is that the major plot turns are relatively predictable. The visual effects are unmatched, making it feel as though this world could be real, that the Na'vi could be real. It hasn't been since Star Wars since my imagination has been sparked so vividly by a movie.
