This movie is derivative of so many other movies. Maybe there are two or three original ideas. Stunning visual and audio in IMAX. I'm glad I saw it, but it's more like a carnival ride than a movie of substance.

My wife and I, along with our 2 sons, saw Avatar in IMAX 3D this past weekend. While it was a good movie, it didn't really gain much in 3D or IMAX. Some scenes were spectacular to watch, but most of the movie was not as visually stunning. (Both of my sons commented that the best thing in 3D was the previews.)
And is it just me, or was this Avatar film just a 'souped up' Fern Gully remake??
While I must agree that, technologically, this is a 'really cool' film, I cannot say that this is a movie that I would advise anyone to rush to see, especially not in 3D or IMAX.
But, maybe you're like me, and want to see for yourself. Go ahead and check it out, but my advice is to not get your hopes up too high. That way, you'll enjoy it more.

I think this movie delivers what it is supposed to, action, great characters, and a sense of wonder. I am a little upset that with the length of the movie, the story doesn't allow the corporation to be fleshed out, and the apelike grunts (insert dialog) from the military commander were boring to hear. I would take off half a star for that, so that still gives the movie 4 1/2 stars. In this day of movies that don't live up to the hype, it's nice to know James Cameron has done that and more.

I recommended this movie to all my friends on Facebook as soon as we got home. It was 2am in the morning but well worth the trip. The local IMAX theater was packed just for this movie. James Cameron has done it again. I was wanting to watch more. I hope they come out with a book or maybe a second movie to this one. Very well done and the 3D was not as bad as the news had stated. Two Thumbs up..!!

That was the best movie I have seen in years! We took or 9 year old son to see this movie in 3D at the IMAX and had to sit 3 rows back, we wished we would have been there earlier to get better seaing. I woke up this morning wanting to go straight back and buy more tickets for tonight! All three of us were just awe struck through the movie and would recommend it to others. We wished there could be more creative movies like this without any cursing, but besides a few of them here and there it was phenominal! 100 thumbs up!

I originally had no plans to see this film, but went on a Saturday afternoon with a group of friends only for the need of something to do. I can not believe the effect that I felt while watching in IMAX 3-D. It was amazing!! The storyline and characters were identifiable and the effects were some of the most outstanding I have ever seen. I was amazed and thrilled. Oh yeah, this one is a total hit!

This is one of the few movies in the history of movie making that actually lived up to it's billing. It blows you away from beginning to end. It was the best decision to only show it in 3d and the IMAX experience is just mind boggling.

What a fantastic movie going experience. In Imax 3-D you feel like you are actually in the movie. The 3-D effects are truly breathtaking. Definately a MUST SEE!!!

This the best movie I have seen in years and I watch alot of movies. The movie kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't wait to see what happened next. The colors and design were beautiful. This movie is worth seeing, but be sure to see it in IMAX 3D. We saw it on a 10:45pm showing and it didn't end until 0145am. I didn't want it to end...!
"Helpful Hint" my wife didn't like the 3D experience because of her migraines, so she feel asleep, however, it was not because of the movie, just the 3D. She expressed that she wants to see it again just not in 3D... So if your date doesn't like 3D, do yourself a favor and see it in regular picture.

Wow. This movie is amazing. I'm glad I saw it in IMAX 3D too. Love the story, love the outcome, love the animation and love the characters. James Cameron gets two thumbs up. Now if only we would treat our planet and people the way the Na'vi treat theirs, this world would be a better place to live. I hope people take that idea with them when they leave the movie theater.

This is one of the most incredible movies I have ever seen. Saw it in a regular theater on opening day... Absolutely loved it.... Next day viewed it at an IMAX 3-D showing.... The 3-D experience is absolutely incredible... I felt completely immersed in the environment, with a few of the scenes being so cool it almost brought tears to my eyes from the awesomeness.
The only people I could think of that would not appreciate this movie would be blonde females lacking the mental faculties to absorb the experience.

I saw this movie in 3D IMAX and in my opinion is the ONLY way to view the movie. The effects are stunning such that you feel you are truely on Pandora! I have loved science fiction ever since a young boy and this is the best SCI FI experience since the first Star Wars that launched a whole new generation of film making. This movie starts a new era and raises the bar again! The 2hr 40 minutes flew buy and held interest throughout.......never got boring because there were so many beautiful things to absorb! The story line had some cliched dialogue that could have been improved but all and all a really great experience and well worth the extra cost to see in 3D IMAX.

Drove to Ann Arbor to get an IMAX 3D theater, and it was worth the extra time and $$$. The movie is all about the FX; the story line, if you dissect it from the flash and sizzle, is a bit trite and well-worn. But Cameron can make you overlook all this in the grand spectacle. Besides, the good guys win! :-D
I hope he make a boat-load of money on this movie, so that it justifies (and therefore promotes) all the exotic technology and CG work - then perhaps they can be applied to movies with deeper content.
Still in all, I *would* recommend this to anyone who wants a gorgeous, fantastic action thriller.

What to say about this movie? Well, it was $400 million WELL spent!!!! WOW!!! I can't really think of any thing that I would say negative about this film. If you see it, you need to see it in 3D and in IMAX if at all possible. The scope of the film along with the IMAX format was a perfect match.

The Imax 3D presentation of Avatar is a must. I almost feel sorry for anybody that sees it in just 3D, and god forbid 2D! The story is basically just a frame work for Cameron to display his digital magic. And he does...big time. I have to admit that the mo-cap characters have more humanity in them than most of the "live" performances. Zoe Saldana does the strongest work by far. I did notice thematic and visual references to Cameron's previous films, but The CGI accomplishments make it an original.
Anyone who loves movies should not deny themselves this cinematic feast!

Imax + 3D did it all, this was my first 3D IMAX experience and it worth every penny. It took about 15 min to get adjusted to the new experience, but once felt comfortable I did not even noticed glasses anymore. The story was great, even though at times you could easily predict what is going to happen in the next 10 min. Amazing computer graphics, 3D effects and overall story for 2h and 40 min make you feel part of the movie. Even though the movie is long enough, the time went by really fast for me and most definitely, this movie stands out from many other movies this year.

My wife and I saw Avatar last night and were astounded by the clarity , seamlessness and great story line. It left you wanting to see more. And asking if they are going to write a book to follow. Quite a reverse from the normal way to bring a movie to the public. The website was helpful also as it brought some things to light that were just assumed in the movie. Also my wifes' son-in-law is the graphics artist that was responsible for Avatars face along with most of the other creature faces, his name is Jeff Unay.

Simply AMAZING. This is truly the first movie that felt like an “EXPERIENCE” that I wanted to repeat the moment it ended, very unique. The cast was all brilliant, the story was superb, and special effects in 3D were off the charts. The depth of field, color vibrancies, camera angles, and magnificent scenery were all working in overdrive to put together the pieces of this visual masterpiece. The world that Cameron created was so cohesive and believable that I really couldn’t find anything to pick apart, it all seemed to make sense and was incredibly immersive. Cameron put soo much detail into every aspect and made Pandora a place where everything was “connected” in some way, a true game changer.

I would watch this again and again and again. I never ever ever watch a movie twice or feel like buying the dvd but for this movie.. I have to say ID watch this over and buy the Blue Ray DvD when it comes out. My butt hurt from sitting on the chair for 2 hours and a half but well worth it. I love it to the point I kept forgetting to blink while wearing the 3-D glasses. Seriously this was such a spectacular movie.

We saw this on Saturday afternoon and thought it lived up to all the hype. Great story, effects and definately like nothing we've ever seen before. It has to be seen in Imax 3D. We didn't have any problems with the nausea reported by some. We can't wait to see it again.

Appears to have been filmed with stereoscopic cameras from the outset. This is no cheap "3D" experience. Truly the future of entertainment and worth twice the price of admission. Also a great film even on a flat screen. Wonderful story, environment, characters and presentation.

My family anticipated this release for months and it was all we expected and more! Not very many movies live up to their hype. But, this movie exceeded anything imaginable. i went to see this movie in the IMAX at empire 25 times sq manhattan. The 3d is excellent and the things pop out straight out of the screen to the point where you fell like you're alone there watching this happen, even though the theater is packed with a full house. It's a good movie that should not be watched other than in IMAX 3D.The only prblem I had was with some of the dialog(corny one-liners), although it does not distract from the greater goal of this film which is to make you believe you are in the world of Pandora.
