I love the technology used in this film (facial performance capture & CGI - not keen on the 3D in the IMAX theaters vs real3D used in smaller theaters). Can't help feeling I've heard this story before - several iffy cultural biases. Overall tho luscious eye-candy - looking forward to the next use of this range of technologies.

I have seen this movie 3 times and have to say it is the best movie I have ever seen. It kept my attention throughout the entire movie. The visual effects were awesome. And I will be going back to see it again!

This movie was great. The special effects were unreal. We did watch it on the Imax screen but if anyone were to tell me that I would have enjoyed this movie I wouldn't have believed them but I enjoyed it tremendously.

The effects are amazing. It really is the best CG I've ever seen. The story, a mixture of Fern Gully, Dances with Wolves and a smattering of Aliens, is a bit trite and gets tied up a little too easily. I'd say go for 3d/IMAX over anything else (regular screen/non 3d Imax) because the world of Pandora is best viewed as large as possible. The effect of wearing your 3D goggles gives you somewhat the same effect as Jake Sully's entrance into his Avatar--you enter the world upon putting the 3d specs on, you leave the world when you take them off.

This was an incredible 3D experience and had a very good storyline. I am not into fantasy type movies, but I wanted to see this for the special effects. The effects were just amazing and gave me a whole different experience watching a movie.
The surprising thing for me was that I really enjoyed the storyline, and was captivated by the story as well. I recommend to everyone, young and old, to experience the movie.

I wanted to see this movie w/my kids, however, they weren't as interested so I went by myself.
It was one of the best experience with an IMAX movie, yet it was Avatar the movie that I loved, the premise and the visual effects.

This movie in IMAX 3D is nothing short of spectacular! Story is somewhat derivative of what has come before (Dances with Banshees?), but the visuals, the technological advances in movie-making, and the brilliance of the IMAX 3D imagery will change the way movies are made far into the future. Beautiful to look at in IMAX 3D (the ONLY way to see this movie), but even the visual awe aspect wears thin after 150 minutes. I was mesmerized by the first half of this movie, but the last hour bored me when it turned into a loud, action-oriented video game. Some judicious and ruthless editing throughout was in order.
And despite the obvious good intentions, the message storyline in the second half became unnecessarily heavy-handed. Less of the sledge hammer was in order.
Worth seeing for the visuals, but take a nap before you go.

This was my second time seeing this movie. The first time I saw it was in Japan at a great movie theater. Then I thought the 3D experience their was great however now after seeing the Imax version I was totally blown away. The crystal clear visuals and amazing audio makes it clear to me Imax experience is the best in the world. I am excited about going to the movies again. The movie on every level I thought was excellent the story line can be interpreted in many different ways referring to short comings in our society.

My son wanted to see this movie for his birthday. We were not disappointed! His comment was: "Dad, this is just like the Indians." since he is studying the American westward movement across the United States in school right now. I said, "Yes, but the indians are going to win this time." Visual effects & sound were awesome! I really need to read this book!!

The concept of the story was imaginative as were the characters and visuals. Other things about the story were predictable, including the ending. The whole 3D experience was great, although I didn't think there was anything offered in 3D that I wouldn't still have appreciated in regular view. I plan to see the movie again.

My husband and I enjoyed the experience of Avatar in 3D at the IMAX theater. But we both felt that the storyline was predictable and the foreshadowing was obvious. While some of the acting was pretty good and the visuals were fantastic, the movie was unnecessarily long and slow at times.

As expected, the special effects in this flick are amazing, but the trite and excessively violent ending canceled out my good feelings about the first two-thirds of the movie. It was sad and pathetic to see the number of "adults" who brought small children to this movie. Many many little kids weeping and sobbing over the violence at the end, in which thousands of people were blown up, set on fire, killed in aircraft crashes, etc. What a waste when this otherwise could have been a brilliant film. It would seem James Cameron is just not that smart about much beyond marketing.

Technically, an extraordinary experience. I would highly recommend the 3D and IMAX presentation (though this is the only time I saw it - so I can't really comment on other formats).
Disappointed in the storyline resolution, it dissolved into a war movie (albeit, with incredible special effects).

I had not been to a 3D IMAX movie before...and this adventure was well worth the wait. From the moment we placed the 3D glasses on..the adventure began. The story line left you as though you were part of it. The vibrant scenes and colors just popped. I wished it could have gone on longer...Super Movie....

Movie was great. It deserves all the enthusiasm. The Imax theater was a problem. I arrived to find that the only seats were about 10 feet from the screen - sickeningly close. We left.
Fortunately, there was a first class theater nearby, one that the owners didn't feel the need to show their greed. I'm not opposed to profits, just ask that theater owners don't expect people to pay for seats no one could enjoy.

Yes, truly awesome. Now, perhaps it was because of my first time in IMAX...could be because I had never seen a 3D movie....but if it was going to be a first of any kind, I am glad it was Avatar.
Predictable? Yes, of course. Unique storyline? No, not at all. However, this movie shows that reinventing the wheel is uniquely and unbelieveably possible. From the moment it started, I was emersed, baptized in the flood of visually and conceptually remarkable artistry. At almost 50, I felt like a child seeing his very first big screen movie...nothing else existed (save the equally beautiful woman I shared it with). See this movie! No matter the venue. But at all costs...see it in IMAX 3D.

I have not been to a 3D movie since I was a kid and it is hard to find words to describe what I felt. I am amazed as to how someone could create such wonderful images from the tree of life to the flying creatures to the helicopters and battle scenes. I cannot think of anything negative to say. It was wonderful to be able to experience this and escape from life for 2 hours and 40 minutes. I hope to see it again soon!

Unlike Titanic, Avatar starts off big and ends bigger, with very little time in between spent thinking this is boring. I often judge a movie by how many times I look at my watch during it, but not once did I want Avatar to end. It was a tear jerker, yet inspiring. Pandora was a wonderful place to visit, and we ALL want to live there! Congratulations Mr. Cameron, simply put - AWESOME!

WOW !!!!- Please tell me why halfway thru the movie I wanted to be an Avatar!!!!! Since adulthood, I have never been this excited about a movie, both while watching and afterward. The lessons are timely and pure...a must see for the entire family! That may sound cheesy, but its true!!!
