The graphical and visual elements in this movie is something I've never seen before in any other film. Not to mention the mind captivating story, and outstanding acting. Overall, this movie is a beautiful peace of work, that kept me in my seat even after the credits had ended.

The movie nearly lives up to its hype with use of motion capture and CGI that creates a believable, breathtaking new world. Particularly impressive were the aliens themselves; they were totally convincing as living people.
The story, however, didn't quite live up to the visuals. If the story had focused on why mining the mysterious ore was so important (beyond its value as a commodity) then the motives of the aggressors might have given a more realistic balance to the narrative.

Avatar is not just about the visual effects, which are awesome, but it is also backed by a solid, if familiar, storyline. A classic tale of finding one's place in the universe, Avatar has elements of environmentalism, corporate greed, and courage of convictions all smoothly and subtlety blended into a well paced story. Absolutely stunning in its vibrant colors and visuals, this film makes it worth it to go to the movies again. Definitely a must see in IMAX 3D.

We saw Avatar in IMAX 3D, and I wasn't prepared for it to be as phenomenal as it was. It was visually stunning, beautifully crafted, and well written and acted. Sometimes the assault on the senses was almost too much, but that's not to say it wasn't enjoyable.
Locally it was rated at 3 1/2 stars but I'd give it the maximum rating...5 stars. For me, it rates up there with the best films I've seen...and I'm very discerning and not even a big fan of this genre of film.

"Avatar" in IMAX 3-D is without doubt the most impressive movie we've ever seen, and the best part of it is that it's not just special effects and gimmicks! It has a real plot with people who can really act - Sigourney Weaver is perfect in her role, as are the rest of the cast. We drove 70 miles each way to see this movie and would not hesitate to tell anyone and everyone - GO!

Characters, storyline or themes in "Avatar" (all of which are great) aren't what will distinguish this film. We'll soon look back at "Avatar" as the initial film to show film fans (and film makers) a new dimension and experience for the form. Yes, there are a few glitches here and there, but see "Avatar" on 3D and IMAX and remember the artistry, nuance and delicacy of digital cinema from here on in. Peter Jackson or Christopher Nolan or Robert Zemeckis or anyone else who wants to work on a "big" canvas can't help but have envy and emulation for what James Cameron has done. A great film and a great experience, but see it in 3D and IMAX for sure.

Do not cheat yourself with this movie. See it in 3-D IMAX. It's immersive, beautiful, exciting, funny, touching, and at times heartwrenching. Cameron took me back to being 6 years old in a dark theater staring in awe and wonder at the strange new world Lucas introduced me to in Star Wars in 1977. Was the basis of the plot new? No, neither was Star Wars or all but a handful of movies in the last 30 years. But the delivery mechanism for the film made everything old new again. This was remarkable. Planning to see it again very soon.

If you've seen Jurassic Park, Terminator, Alien, Lord of The Rings and The Matrix, then you've already seen Avatar. IMAX 3D is THE ONLY format this movie will work in and will definitely not be worth the cost of a Blue Ray DVD when it hits the stores. The scenery is amazing but the story was a bit hokey and dragged on WAY too long. As far as a "Movie Industry Game Changer", Avatar missed it by a good bit. Identical to Lord of The Rings as far as battle scene imagery and sound.

I would say to anyone who is skeptical to take a chance. Mr. Cameron has wrought a new world for us to visit in such beautiful detail it would be worth it alone just to witness this. The story is a complete as it can be, leaving room for more but it definitely has an ending. Thanks for taking the chance Mr. Cameron, it was worth the wait for you to perfect this technology and I look forward to see what Hollywood will continue to bring to life. This was a great way to end this year for Hollywood and there are still a couple titles left to paint a beautiful package of movies in 2009.

Every once in a while, we get to watch a movie that changes the way that we enjoy them. Watching Avatar in an IMAX 3D equipped theater does just that. The new technology in this movie allows us to enjoy the dramatic performance of the actors, while still having the advantage of motion capture technology. Add to that the amazing visual world of Pandora created by James Cameron and the combination is spellbinding. I agree with Steven Spielberg. I haven't felt this way coming out of a movie since exiting the first Star Wars movie in 1977.

Avatar is a winner (IMAX 3-D a must). The animation was seamless & the characters very convincing. The artistry & creativity amazing - a treat to the eyes & imagination.
It is unfortunate there has to be any cussing in it because it's not necessary & only distracts from the very entertaining parts of the movie. Star Wars taught us that bad language & gore is not necessary to be a great crowd pleaser. Hopefully, in future Avatar sequels they focus more on what sets them apart from the run-of-the-mill movies rather than try to slip in a little cussing here & there.
Overall though it is a great movie, especially nowadays when so many poor ones are out there. I do not usually see movies more than once but plan to see Avatar again & again.

Avatar was a beautifully crafted movie. We went and saw it in IMAX 3-D and it was spectacular. At first getting used to the depth was bothersome but once over it the movie seemed to envleope you into the scenery. One draw back was the end, not the part where sticks and stones can win the war with war mongering earthlings but the end where they let them all go and leave the planet. With that much wealth they will come back and bomb them into submission from space. While the movie sucks you in and you become part of it's reality...the ending when it is over really sticks in your mind and you know the earthlings will be back stronger than ever and the inevitable ending will happen...just like it has played out here on earth

Yep, lots of hype, but the movie exceeded it. There is no visible CGI, there is just movie. The story is great, the characters are great. The evil corporate and military guys are a bit over the top, but that still works. And the 3D/iMax is great but it can give you serious motion sickness if you are prone to that.
I'm going again and I had to drive from Sarasota to Tampa.

The plot may be a bit simple, but the visuals are breathtaking! GORGEOUS EYECANDY EVERYWHERE! When it was over and I took off my 3D glasses, I looked around and suddenly was like... I wanna go back... I wanna be with the symbiont animals, the talking plants, and floating mountains... where enchanting music is always playing and there is honor and respect among the people and a genuine respect for all living things... and most of all beauty, beauty, everywhere... I wanna go back to Pandora! D=

How did they do that? This is one of the best graphical movies to view ever and with a great plot. However, caution, it does have a few distasteful words and could even be a bit scary in a few scenes for small children.

Excellent movie for IMAX 3D! I can only imagine that on the regular screen the movie may not seem as spectacular. The 3D experience was the best ever! Everything I want from a movie! Stunning visuals, drama, humor, plot, science.
The entire plot is relevant to issues we are facing in our world today.The message is about how greed can destroy something more valuable than money...the riches of a civilization. A beautiful love story as well.
Don't wait for this to come out on DVD. Experience this on the big screen and if at all possible, in IMAX 3D!

All the best adjectives to describe this movie are applicable. Simply put, this movie is SUPERLATIVE. Ignore the critics, ignore the politics and enjoy the movie for what it is. It is a MASTERPIECE. The story is enjoyable, but to be honest, my son and I saw every major plot point coming. The visuals are worth the price of admission all by themselves. I saw the 3D Imax version and would recommend at least seeing the film in 3D.
