Take a typical Hollywood action film and eco story and roll them together, but make it the most visually stunning 3D and CGI ever done. Weak characters and predictable story. That pretty much sums it up. See it in IMAX 3D before it's gone. Otherwise if you see it at home, it might just be like any other movie.
Anyone else find it out-of-place that Sigourney Weaver smokes in the film?

I loved it. Watching a movie in 3d is pretty cool anyway, but watching Avatar was especially cool. I loved the effects and i would absolutely recommend this movie to anyone and everyone. Gotta say though. totally laughed at the avatar love scene. but it was short so it wasn't a distraction. So good!!!

This movie was pretty good. Even though it was long it didn't feel long because the story moved along at a good pace. The special effects were great but I didn't feel like any of it was real like people told my I would. The 3D was probably the reason nothing felt real because although it was cool you could still tell its not perfected. The edges of the screen are blurry or double images. I think its worth seeing anyway but not nearly on the level of Braveheart or Titanic.

The TV commercials doesn't show how awesome this movie is to see. What you see will be all new to you, the 3D special effects mixed with other technology used to make this movie is ridiculously incredible compared to anything else. The 3D forest alone was way better than anything you've seen at Disneyland. It is amazing how realistic everything is. Story line was great. Must see at theater on big screen in 3D.

My wife and I really enjoyed Avatar in 3D on the IMAX. She usually doesn't like Science Fiction Movies but she loved this movie. James Cameron has done another great job. I would recommend that everyone see this movie!

Saw this film on Valentine's Day with my husband. I was not thrilled, but my husband insisted I would enjoy the movie. Sure enough, I thoroughly enjoyed Avatar especially since we chose to see it in IMAX 3D. Although the movie is over 2 1/2 hours long, the storyline and amazing graphics made the time fly by! Highly recommended!

My wife and I took a two hour drive to watch this at an IMAX theater. We both enjoyed it very much. We already have plans to go see Alice In Wonderland when it comes out. I would say it is worth the extra money and I understand why people were waiting in line to see it again.

My husband and I went to see the IMAX 3D on Valentine's Day. It was a wonderful experience. The movie was creative but the story line was weak. It was a good night of entertainment. Yes I would recommend. My husband took our grandchildren to see the 3D version and said the IMAX 3D was so much better.

No kidding, in IMAX and 3-D, holy mother of marlin!!!! I'm not into gimmicks like 3-D, but it really was so well done with this film. The story, the creatures, the characters... I can safely say this was the #1 entertainment experience I have ever had in a movie theatre. Talk about a well-realized story. I was part of this world. I LOVED it. What imagination!! Also, a vision of future technology you will not forget.

I went yesterday on Valentine's Day with my boyfriend and the house was packed. We saw the Imax 3D version & it was definitely worth it. I've heard random complaints about the CGI not being so great, or the storyline having all kinds of faults, but we enjoyed it just as a form of entertainment. I don't think it would have been as impressive without the 3D -- it was worth the extra few bucks to add the glasses. Definitely worth a watch before it leaves the theaters.

Great movie but be careful when a theater advertises that they have an IMAX showing. The Bay Street theater in Emeryville has a dinky Imax screen. If they charge extra for an Imax viewing there, don't pay for it. The screen is just slightly curved, you don't get the sense that you are engulfed in the movie the way you would on most other IMAX screens.

The movie was OK.... I think it's WORTH to watch it for the 3-D EFFECT, VISUALS and GRAPHIC ACTION. Other than that, is just alright. The storyline-plot was kinda lame and TYPICAL.. there were some moments.. it felt cheesy and corny for the type of situation that was going on. I understand that the director wanted to inject some emotion in the movie, yet the effect did not work out that much ( at least for me, lol).

The storyline is pretty predictable, but this is the first movie of it's kind and unbelievable to watch. I'll be thinking about this one for some time. $14 a ticket kinda sucks, but that's ok. The created a world like no other with the best special effects and sound I've ever seen or heard. Go see it!

My wife and I went to this movie as a date night movie. We both enjoyed it - as a date night, it was a success.
It was an entertaining movie. I agree with the critics that the plot was predictable and the special effects were excellent. For a movie from the guy who gave us Terminator, Aliens, and Titanic, I would have been surprised if there was anything different in it.
I don't think the 3D was worth the extra money, the NASA trailer for the upcoming IMAX 3D movie on repairing the Hubble telescope took infinitely better advantage of the 3D capabilities.

Incredible when viewing the movie in 3D IMAX. Even though the story line is a little Pocahontas with a Sci-Fi twist, it was still very enjoyable and the special affects definitely made up for any lost points in the storyline. It was even better the 2nd time watching it since I was able to focus on all the visuals that I missed on my first viewing where I was had to follow the story and look at all the great special effects together.

Great Movie. I've seen it twice now on iMAX 3D. First time was unbelievable - awesome visuals, yeah a little predictable for some scenes. Second time - I was a little more into focused on the script, which was not as good. But - the story is the best I've seen... too bad there’s no way to make this movie mandatory and download & install that way of thinking… Humanity just might be saved if it was!

My girlfriend and I finally got around to seeing Avatar after hearing all the hype for nearly two months. We decided to see it in 3D Imax due to recommendations from friends. I'm generally very critical of movies even more so for science fiction movies that tend to be corny or have real bad acting. Avatar has neither. I have to say that for once a movie far exceeded the hype. Great story, great acting, breathtaking scenery, well choreographed action. I can't say enough about this movie.

The graphics were amazing but the story line was the typical and overused cowboys and indians, ie, greedy, white corporation vs poor. defenseless underdogs plot. Very simplistic and all too predictable. So go and enjoy the miracle of 3D but be wary of the message.

I saw this movie the first weekend that it was released in a standard theater. This weekend, my wife and I saw the movie in 3D IMAX. It was awsome and blew away the first time I saw it. This is a must see, especially in 3D IMAX. My wife hates these types of movies but she loved it also.

Saw the movie in Imax 3D at AMC. Movie plot was below average - nothing new there. Too predictable. I would have thought that 3D was more advanced than what was shown in the movie. Hubble preview trailer had more 3D than Avatar movie. I guess Imax at a local AMC theater means a 20% bigger screen, but that's about all. Best part of the movie was the scenery and landscape. That showed the best use of imagination. As for the movie plot, you would think that in the year 2154, where you can travel to and live on other planets, and create and operate Avatars, that your military weapons would be more sophisticated than rockets, machine guns, and knives. Very unimaginative there. Movie was almost double what a regular movie costs, and not worth it.

The storyline was wonderful and so true of how greedy white man is and how he has gained all of his wealth by killing and stealing. He doesn't know how to share. The 3d was the best I've seen ever! It was a great experience.
