James Cameron brings to life a visually appealing movie that leaves you in awe of how far 3-D has come.
As a story it has a tale as old as movie making itself. Without giving too much away, it reminds you of a Jimmy Stewart cowboy and Indian western or some similar tale where the Calvary guide falls for the Indian chief's daughter.
The story moves along at a pace that works well for you in your 3-D induced state of mind.
The acting is believable and on point. You will enjoy the chemistry between the two main characters.
The 2 hours and 40 minutes will go by in a spectacular visual blitz, and leave you feeling money very well spent.

I was told by a friend that I had to go see this movie since "it is like something that you havn't seen anywhere before". He was right. The special effects are incredible even for us 2009-2010 movie goers. The size of the Na'vi compared with humans was a special touch. The story is a juiced up Ferngully and Pocahantas wrapped in one. You really should go because you will not be disappointed.

The most visually stunning movie I have ever seen. However, the plot was ridiculous and the dialog could have been written by a kid in elementary school. I spent the last hour of the movie trying to imagine how I would have altered the plot to make the movie better and did come up with some thoughts that I will not share here. All this being said the movie is so beautiful visually(Especially in 3D and Imax) that I would reccomend people go and see it.

I have seen this movie now for the third time, but the first time in the IMAX 3D. The movie may be a little weak in the plot, but it otherwise immerses you in Cameron's reality. The cinematic experience is nothing short of spectacular, and the CGI blends in so perfectly with actually footage, that Pandora becomes a reality in your mind. Even if you don't like or particularly enjoy Sci-Fi Fantasy, you owe it to yourself to see this movie. This film is clearly a milestone in cinematic experience, and one that sets the new benchmark for the genre. It was meant to be viewed in the IMAX 3D, and anything is just not worth it.

The movie is a thinly veiled social commentary on the events of today, and in terms of the storyline itself there is nothing new. However, given all of that, it is still a pretty good story. it's a love story, but not just romantic love. There is a spiritual love, an environmental love, and a love of life and its endless possibilities. All told with incredibly beautiful detail which enhances the overall experience. Cameron wants us to experience it as if we were there ourselves. It is a wonderful experience; it is a must see in IMAX 3D.

This movie remains focused on its story while giving stunning visuals. It's not just that the cgi is flawless, but it is acted(actors performed all actions and it shows in detailed expression and real looking movements for cgi). This is a very beautiful film, the images and colors will stay in your mind after you leave. The plants and animals in this movie are characters in their own right, we were expecting it to have been overhyped, but it was not, it exceeded expectations.

First of all I am very picky about movies. I am a director and actor and often criticize down to the nail about a movies production quality. AVATAR was amazing!!! The acting...unreal, the special effects...intrancing, the story...brillient. I have seen it two times, and it was wonderful through each sitting! A truly superb representation of how our planet has become, and hopefully makes a few people think before they do something else utterly stupid. This was the best movie I have seen in my entire life. Bye bye Star Wars...AVATAR is in town!!

IMAX 3D version of the film there are no previews. So the movie starts you at the top of a roller coaster and then drops you. The movie last over two and a half hours, but you won't feel you just went to a movie that long. Just an incredible journey at high speed.

I didn't really know what to expect from this film, but I was curious from what I heard about it. Saw at I-Max 3D, oh my, what a wonderful movie, the movie is over 2 hours long, but it didn't seem like it. The plot was good, the effects blew me away, this is a movie to go see you will enjoy it.

I do recommend Avitar. The story is a bit of a cliche. Corporate greed destroying mother earth and the innocent natives who are one with mother earth etc. Single minded military whack job bent on "preemptively" wiping out natives.
But if you put all the usual left-wing propoganda aside, the 3D is at a whole new level, and the blending of people and CGI is seemless. The acting / expressions of some of the animated characters is better than some of the live actors.
The Alien femle lead will appeal to all young men into 9 foot tall vaguely catlike glowing blue women (and who isn't). And almost every creature on the planet is a natural born killer.

Although it was a three hour movie, there was never any place that lulled long enough to get a popcorn refill. It was a story that was crafted carefully and executed perfectly. The creativity in getting the shots and merging the actors with their CG selves was flawless. This is one for the collection.

I saw this movie twice so far. Once in the regular version and then in 3D Imax which was outstanding. The scenery and music were outstanding. The acting and story was also captivating. I will probably buy this for my video library when it is available.

This movie is inspirational. It teaches everyone that we have to respect the planet and everything on it. It is amazing how James Cameron wrote this 15 years ago, and had to wait to produce it because the technology wasn't up to the standards that he wanted to produce it. This is an amazing movie and I would recommend it to anyone.

3D effects are not very stunning but the Na'vi's facial expressions are realistic. Other scenes are just like Lord of the rings except it's 3D. I think this is a Matrix+Lord of the rings+Star Wars+sci-fi+fairy tales kind of story.

Overall this film was ok but I saw it in the 3D IMAX experience. Some family members had explained how they knew others had spun-out with vertigo watching this in IMAX 3D. I could see how that could happen and went anyways. It was cool! The story line is pure childrens fiction with some sci-fi and weaker special effects thrown in but the acting was ok for the roles they cast. Not that they were believeable but hey the entire plot is fiction. The story gets only half my score including it's special effects. But if you don't mind childrens-science-fiction and can stomach theme park roller coasters you will appreciate why I gave this rating 5 stars.

I went to this movie expecting good CGI and a mediocre story. I was actually very impressed to find this the best animation I've ever seen and the story was well written and developed. It did have a few moments of stupid macho war BS; but, forgiven with the overall impact of the movie. Highly recommend it.

Multi-million dollar high-res visuals, which is the real eye-catcher in this one.
The let down is the same plot as Dances with wolves and last samurai, which is only reason this film didn't get 4 stars.
The IMAX theater and 3-d glasses were a nice touch. Noticed that if you are not looking directly in line with the screen, some of the 3-d frames will look a bit blurry. Screen is great, sound is what really moves you.
No doubt will be the standard for CGI graphics to be compared to.

If you think movies are for entertainment and fun, you will LOVE this film. If you are looking for a in depth story line and such you will not be as impressed. But with that said, anyone who sees this film will not be able to deny the feast for the senses. The plot is predictable and typical of hollywood - the special effects and graphics are amazing. Creating a completely alien world in detail takes a bit of imagination and attention to detail and that is definitely included in this film. The 3D IMAX is worth the money with the exception of the theaters that insist on "reserved seating" - wait until they lift that restriction because you can't choose where you want to sit. We were "assigned" the 4th row.

In pre-release I think that many were rooting against this movie. Every "tech" movie risks overwhelming plot with effects. Not so here. Cameron has struck the perfect balance of digital mastery with plot. Yes, story line is relatively simple... no real surprising twists or turns, but this is a solid effort that will be considered a cinematic touchstone.

You HAVE to see this movie, and DEFINITELY worth the extra few dollars to see it in IMAX 3D!
The story pulls you in, the special effects are out of this world. Its quite long, but you dont ever want it to end anyway, so works great!
The 3D effects were amazing, kept trying to reach out and touch things!
Fell in love with the characters, and really felt pulled in by them. Their world is gorgeous, and so are their people.
A MUST SEE!
