Really enjoyed the experience. Would recommend seeing it in IMAX like I did.
Great 3D; almost made you feel like you were there with the characters in the forest. Fun to watch, and you really had to root for the good guys! Good political message about appreciating the environment and appreciating other cultures, but the kids will like it too even without the message.

This was absolutely, without a doubt, the best movie I have ever seen.
The story is standard, but the way they made it come to life was so beyond what any movie has been able to achieve. I would give it 6 out of 5 stars if I could. It is an epic movie and a MUST SEE.

Excellent action movie for all ages. Perhaps the only ones who will not care for it are some Marines. The graphics are very well done and the best way to see this movie is in IMAX 3D.

By now you've read everything about this movie - a twist on an old/classic story, weak/stereotypical characters, etc., but visually stunning and moving enough to overcome its minor flaws.
I've seen this movie twice now - in Real3D & IMAX 3D and I may go back and see the Real3D again. IMAX has sold out and isn't worth seeing.
When I think of IMAX I see a huge screen, 7-trillion watts of audio power and the total immersion in the experience. Not so here. This movie is 'IMAX digital 3D' - the same movie that you see elsewhere, on the same screen, just pumped through an IMAX projector. Big whoop.
So see the movie, love it, see it again, but see it in Real3D and tell IMAX what you think of their sellout by not giving them your $$s.

I went to this movie knowing very little about it. I knew James Cameron wrote and directed it so I knew it had to be well made, and at least good. It was beyond good, it was sensational. I did not know when I was looking at CGI environments or real environments. Avatars don't exist so I knew they had to be CGI, but still they looked amazing and the storytelling was just as amazing. Two blue thumbs up for Avatar.

Excellent movie - Full of action and some romance. Special effects were impressive. I thought the length of the movie would be a factor, but it was fast moving and didn't lose my interest at all. Sourgney Weaver cast perfectly for the movie. New name actors did a great job. It is normally not "my type of movie", but I was glad I went to see it. Don't miss it - especially in 3D!

I give the movie and the Imax five stars!!! But I hate anything 3D!!! The glasses are nothing but an annoyance. The 3D is impressive for the first ten minutes or so. After that I started to get a headache. This was true with the people that were with me and also the people around me. Plus the glasses themselves were dirty and and we had to clean them with tissues!! Last time I go to anything 3D. Imax yes, 3D NO!!!

It was just really stimulating to the senses! In the beginning i felt like i was scuba diving because the wild life was so colorful and peaceful moving. The plot was pretty good too. Where do people come up with this stuff?

The characters are alive and real and you are among them and engulfed in their wonderland of a world! The story line is engrossing, somewhat predictable, and decidedly Hollywood Green overlaid with the exploitation of a noble and naive race who have a strong resemblance to our native Americans of centuries past. You will find yourself rooting against the greedy capitalist system that uses mercenary military brute force to access natural resources that do not belong to them. All of that Hollywood bias aside, the movie enthralls and moves at a good pace; you will be sorry to see it come to an end. Terrific multiple Oscar-winning fare. Lose yourself in a medium that has never before reached this level of entertainment!

Rating strictly based on the outstanding computer graphics which brought realistic depth of field to everything...BUT I was also disappointed with the overall 3D experience... wanted to see things flying out of the screen and with a couple exceptions that wasn't happening. Avatar is largely an exercise of James Cameron's self-indulgence... story is unremarkable.... and, like Titanic, the movie is WAY TOO LONG... the battle sequence drags on and on and on... could easily have been trimmed to 2 hours. ... if this wasn't in 3D and a precursor of the likely next generation of movie special effects.... I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE... and I certainly would not recommend watching it on DVD.

This movie was awesome when it was called "Dances with Wolves." I don't think I've seen a more predictable story in my life. It may have looked great but I was bored because everything that happened was obvious and the characters were completely uninteresting. I can't care about the world if I can't care about the characters.

We decided that the best way to see this movie was in 3D and it was definitely the right decision. This movie will set the standard for fantasy/sci-fi movies for the future. The characters were great, the graphics were outstanding, the feeling of reality was unsurpassed by anything we have seen in the past. We are planning on seeing it again soon. Creature concepts were wonderful. Kudos to the imagination of the creators and visual effects crews for bringing such complex ideas to the screen in such a believable way. Don't miss this experience. It won't be the same on the regular screen.

Okay, so my wife and I go to the movies every weekend. While we see a lot of movies and are both big movie fans, neither one of us are easily impressed. Having said that we were both totally impressed with AVATAR!
The story was great but probably the most impressive thing about the movie was the 3D! I really felt like I was in the movie at times. I know we have all seen 3D movies before that promised a lot but delivered very little; this movie does not do that!!!
Again, a great story but one you HAVE to see in 3D. The IMAX screen helps as well. I recommend sitting at least 3 or 4 rows back. Go see it before it leaves the theatres and prepare to stand in line for a while even this long after the release, but it is worth it!!!

The movie itself was great, however, I believe we were misled to believe the theater was going to be a true Imax screen, those huge screens that actually curve around the edges. This screen was a normal movie screen and, in spite of the 3d effects, was a real letdown. Have you heard of truth in advertising?

Normally with a movie this long, I end up hoping for it to end. I was on the edge of my seat and had no time for popcorn or drinks. It was the best, THE best movie I have ever seen. It was a love story, a comedy, sci-fi, and reality....there was laughing, crying, combined with scary parts and war scenes. I can't wait to see it again!

A marvelous movie. I loved the comparison that James Cameroon made between the downside and insensitivity that technology has brought to humans, to opening up to nature and the possibilities thereof. My favorite line in the movie was 'the sky-people (humans) already have their cup full then how can we teach them any more' Interesting how he usd aliens to communicate his idea. Loved the story, spectacular visuals.

Eye-popping 3D. Visually stunning. Fantastic audio. There is nothing unique about the theme of this story. I'm sure Cameron knows that it isn't necessarily the type of story that's told; it's *how* it is told. He had the formula correct on this one. After the first 15 or 20 minutes that introduces you to the characters and the setting, it grabs you and never lets go until the ending credits.

Well, my husband and I trekked 45 mins 3x since this movie release just to see it on the IMAX. Everytime we went, it was sold out.Finally,we had the bright idea to purchase the 11:45 show here to gaurantee our tickets. Best decision we made, as we were about to give up and just see it regular 3D.Yeah, it is true, there was not much of a story or plot. And yes, same story we've heard before. BUT, James Cameron did a wonderful job with the effects. Even at 1 in the morning, I was wide awake, eyes glued to my 3D glasses taking it all in. The IMAX screen was HUGE. I really felt like I was inside AVATAR. Awesome movie, great way to end 2009, I recommend this movie to EVERYONE. But of course, to do the movie justice, please see it in IMAX 3D

Great Movie! Plan to see it again. 3D and graphics are excellent. Look forward to more films done in this manner. Storyline made me think he was influenced by Edgar Rice Burroughs - Mars Series and Orson Scott Card's - Enders Series.
