I saw this movie twice in one week. First time in 3-D and 2nd time in IMAX 3-D. I did not notice a difference except the IMAX glasses were more uncomfortable. Perhaps if it was a true 7 story IMAX screen I'd feel differently, but ironically the IMAX screen I saw it on was smaller than the 3-D screen. My husband and I saw it the first time, not taking the kids because of the PG-13 rating (ages 7,9,11). It was an exceptional movie, and we went back with our kids to see it again. I wanted them to experience it in the theatre. It is well worth seeing on a large screen, and in 3-D. It is definitely one of the best movies I've ever seen. James Cameron did an excellent job creating a world that is believable, and beautiful.

This was a great movie to see in 3D. It really added to the movie. Although the plot was fairly predictable, it was easy to be drawn into the characters. The themes of the movie were very transferable to our society and what we are doing to the environment.

Seeing Avatar in 3-D in the Imax theatre was a great theatre experience. The 3-D did not produce eyestrain (as some 3D movies of the past). The colors and depth of the imagery was a totally new and exhilirating theatre experience for me. It made up for a predictable plot and occasionally trite script. The plot was multifaceted enough to engage those who are bored by strictly action or scifi scripts. And the themes and lessons of the movie were uplifting, even though there was not a freshness to the presentation. Finally, the sound track and sound system (with coordinated seat vibrations) was additive even though it was too loud for this middleaged woman.One definitely could not get this experience on a current DVD in one's home!

I bet this movie wil have the same imact as Star Wars had 30 years ago (If Cameron is alowed to developed the trilogy he already talked about... Probable given the box office success the film already had).

I was really impressed with this movie. The 3-D graphics were amazing, but the plot and the characters were equally engaging. I was entertained from beginning to end. I think this is a must see movie, and if you see it, you really need to see it in 3-D and if possible, IMAX.

The best way to view this is at the IMAX. The special effects used were incredible. I want to see all movies in 3D now. Although the story line was not the strongest the visual display presented more than made up for it.

I love to see the imagination of some people on screen. This was phenomenal scenery and beings and rocket ships I haven't seen before. Plus, it had a great message. I kept asking myself, "how did they DO that?" Will see it again.

Avatar was visually spectacular in IMAX 3D.
The plot was stale, formulaic and lacking.
The movie was also too long at almost 3 hours. Given the lack of a real story, 2 hours could have done it.
The IMAX 3D experience made up for an otherwise sub par movie however.

Wow!! This movie makes everything else before look dated. It is an experience in 3D and I saw it on an IMAX 3d. I'm sure it would be wonderful on a normal 3d screen, but if you have the availability see it on IMAX.

Although the plot is formulaic and fairly predictable, that's not what this flick is all about. It's the amazing visuals and particularly the 3D experience. The 3D definitely adds to the sense of immersion in the world Cameron creates, while not being distracting or there simply for shock value. This movie succeeds in creating a new planet that you feel at home in, that you believe that you could step into if you just got up out of your seat. And c'mon, any sci-fi film with Sigourney Weaver has to be great, right?

Make sure you see this in a real IMAX theater like the Metreon in San Francisco!
Saw this in a theater that claimed to be IMAX 3-D, but the screen was small and the sound disappointing.
The 3-D effects were still impressive though and the animation was outstanding. I suspect (and will find out) that the experience will be much better on a full-sized IMAX screen with matching sound.

The impact this movie made on me was Beautiful, Shock and Awe. It reminded me that in each one of us their is a place of resolve and dignity, and that place can be as big or little as we want it to be. The IMAX 3D effect took me into the picture and out of the audience. I was with the Aliens, amongst the marines, and flew with the wild winged creatures of the movie. Buy your popcorn early, because you will not want to leave you seat for the entire 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Overall I thought the movie was great. The graphics totally make up for what might have been lacking in story (only according to others, I really liked the whole thing). Saw the movie in Ypsilanti MI after driving from Toledo OH. The projector kept breaking down. Several show times were refunded their money, including ours. The theater was decent about the problems but maybe call ahead to make sure your theater isn't having problems...?

My husband and I have seen this movie twice over the holidays and love, love, LOVED it both times. Cheesy diaglogue? Thin plot? Get a grip. The spiritual undertone, the native American vibe, the COLORS, and even the plot, were beautifully done. I never felt a moment of fakiness. The whole thing is simply amazing.
