Avatar was a well crafted movie, with great special affects, pretty decent acting, and an interesting story. My only problem with the movie was the usual - a self hating (or America/Capitalism hating) progressive political focus. This gets really old, is destructive to our society, and tends to make the weak minded start to believe nonsense put out by Jihadists like the leadership of Iran, leftists leaders like Hugo Chavez, and other despots around the world. My hat is still off to Cameron for the visuals, which are way better than any I've seen to date. If the politics don't bother you, you'll probably love this movie.

I agree that the obvious plot to this movie has been done before, but there is an underlying plot that is done in a whole different and spectacular way. In addition, the technology used in this film is amazing. This movie is a definate "must see" and I would absolutely see it again, especially at an IMAX theatre...I've already seen it twice!

At first I wasn't very excited about sitting in the second row in front of an IMAX screen so I was just sitting complaining to my gf and she was telling me to relax. my eyes were starting to hurt from the 2D previews and all that, but then they said put on your 3D glasses and about 5 minutes later I let the brownies and the movie take over. I was fully immersed into an alternate universe... a dream even. The fact that I was in the second row only helped since I could see nothing else, but myself inside this amazing story. The only reason I was upset once the movie ended was because I was back in the real world. James Cameron is my new personal hero. Recommend it to anyone that has an imagination. Oh and also to everyone that doesn't.

This was, honestly, the best cinematic experience I have ever seen. On several occasions I actually realized I was in a theater; the movie by itself draws you in, and the experience in IMAX puts you into an alien world. I loved every second of this fantastic movie, and will, in all probability, be seeing it again soon.

This was my second time seeing Avatar--once in Digital 3D, once in IMAX 3D. Naturally, if the movie sucked I wouldn't have gone the second time just for the effects... My only suggestion? If you're going to IMAX, get there an hour before so you could sit in the middle of the theater and NOT in the front rows!
The story is wonderful, Pandora and its people and creatures are beautiful and engaging... bad guys are BAD, good guys are noble and passionate. What I wouldn't do to be a Na'vi! At any rate, see this in 3D of either kind, as the visuals are STUNNING and will draw you in, and you cannot afford to miss out on them in all their glory... SPECTACULAR!!

Go see this movie right away! It is unlike any movie ever made, and you will be drawn in from the first scene. I know it sounds like a long movie, but there will never be a moment where you're looking at your watch. It is non-stop action, and the scenery is unbelievable! The writing is fantastic, and it makes you believe this place really could exist. I really expected not to like it, because I'm never one to jump on a bandwagon, but I honestly want to go see this again, because DVD is going to have a hard time living up to what it is in the theater! The acting is spectacular, particularly Zoe Saldana. Go see this movie... You won't be disappointed. I promise.

James Cameron is a genius and this is another example of how in tune he is with the world aroun him. I have a substantial investment in my home theater and have gone to the theater once in the last 15 years before seeing Avatar. It was the most amazing viewing experience I have ever had. While the storyline was only average and takes so much from films of the past the image on the screen is beyond description. I am once again excited about the future of the movie business.
I strongly suggest you view this film at an IMAX Theater in 3D. Don't cheat yourself out of a fanatastic experience!

Saw movie in IMAX 3D. Beautiful looking movie, but very predictable! Except for the Avatar unit concept, the majority of the plot line appeared to come from movies that I had already seen.

I saw this movie twice, the first time in 3D and the second time 3D IMAX. I loved it the first time, it was the first 3D movie I had ever seen. I thought all the reviews and ads were probably over stating the movie. I was wrong. It was fabulous. IMAX was amazingly even better. Who said it was an old plot? Who cares? It was still excellent.

Ca not reccomend this movie for anyone who has to wear glasses. 3d glasses not made to wear over eyewear. No 3 d effect, in fact poor immaging thruout. As for content of movie, I have seen much better scripts in Startrek, etc.
I like the little girl next to me complained about a crick in the neck. That pretty well summed it up, whole movie made a lot of money, if that was the purpose of making it, not for artistic value. SORRY,that is the way I saw???? it.

I hope you took your "inner little boy" to this movie, and not your inner man or inner woman or even your inner little girl. My biased opinion is that it is an adrenalin pumping 12 year old boy that can most enjoy the fantasy-come-to-life wonders of the moon, Pandora.
If you made the mistake of taking your inner curmudgeon, correct that error by taking your inner 12 year old, and respecting his opinions. Mine loved riding over the left shoulder of a hard banking banshee rider in a free fall dive down a cliff face. He choked with emotion as the Na'vi were turned out of Home Tree. He cheered and hooted at the Final Conflict. He drooled at the thought of living on Pandora.

The movie itself is absolutely wonderful, the story is very good, and it is technically amazing. But it does not feel like it was designed to be in 3D. As far as the 3D went, I felt like the previews were more realistic and lifelike than the actual movie. Overall, definitely a movie to see on the big screen, but do not bother paying the extra for 3D. (if you can find it in IMAX 2D SEE IT, the imax part of it is incredible)

Yes the movie has advanced in the field of animation but it's a long drawn out movie that is just a cartoon.
The IMAX experience is not worth the extra dollars because the soundtrack sounds like The Lion King. In a few years the effects will become as dated as The Wizard of of Oz is today

I'm not prone to motion sickness and only experienced it once during a movie (Blair Witch Project). So I was surprised when I began to feel nauseated early in the IMAX 3D film. Removing the glasses helped but unfortunately keeping my eyes closed worked best. The story was pretty predictable but the imagery (even blurry without 3D glasses) was amazing. I would definitely recommend it, but a word of caution to those with potential for motion sickness: think twice about IMAX 3D.

Loved the movie. Great story, special effects. One question though...why do they even put seats so close to the screen? We got there on time yet the theater was filled and ended up sitting in the 2nd row in the IMAX theater. By the end of the movie my neck was kinked. Had the movie not been so great I'd probably not have stayed.
Shame on the theaters (imho)

The special effects of the film were eye-popping. In every scene there was something that will wow you. What was especially great was the choice of colors for the scenes on pandora. Worth seeing if even just for the special effects.

I wasn't drawn by the 3D aspect but, I was drawn because everyone I know who saw it loved it. So, I went for the IMAX 3D showing. WOW was the first impression. The was so lifelike, it was like being there personally, everything so vivid, almost touchable.
I heard all the bull about same ol plot and all, but there has never been any true "new" human condition storyline - get over it. Avatar was as new or as old as any movie I ever saw.
There is a fresh aspect of the human condition, and more so, new concepts of how a future could be (like Star Trek did in the 60s), including with alians, cloning and human/mechanical assist robots, etc.
In short: go see it and get your own impressions.
