I wasn't drawn by the 3D aspect but, I was drawn because everyone I know who saw it loved it. So, I went for the IMAX 3D showing. WOW was the first impression. The was so lifelike, it was like being there personally, everything so vivid, almost touchable.
I heard all the bull about same ol plot and all, but there has never been any true "new" human condition storyline - get over it. Avatar was as new or as old as any movie I ever saw.
There is a fresh aspect of the human condition, and more so, new concepts of how a future could be (like Star Trek did in the 60s), including with alians, cloning and human/mechanical assist robots, etc.
In short: go see it and get your own impressions.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
