I was grateful for the suggestions of the "angel of death" without direct references. I thought of that with Clooney's closing words and as employees of downsizing companies muttered things as he passed. The visible jolting of employees into other, unanticipated places as they heard the news of layoffs prepared us for Clooney's surprise in Chicago. I also appreciated the looking through, crawling through and breaking through images ... through a school window into the past, through the computer screen, out of a plane window. This movie is respectful in its patience ...

Great movie. Jason Reitman makes personal films and this one is a gem. Great casting, characters, acting, writing, directing. I crack up at any reviews here that get confused over who's story it is, or that the movie was sad at times. Since when is life tidy and orderly and everything works as planned? It isn't. It doesn't. This movie's about life. Lives. It will definitely make you think, even after the movie has ended. You will laugh and be moved too. It is not a typical hollywood movie, and should be celebrated for it.

Really captures corporate travel. Some truly touching moments...absolutely loved the last line in this film. Who knew George Clooney could act...he is terrific. American Airlines should be happy...they actually show their employees being nice to travelers...now that's acting!

Do not go see this if you are looking for a feel good funny romantic comedy. The only funny parts were in the trailer-it was depressing and not so funny. The acting was good and it was an interesting story line but in my opinion it was not what was sold on the trailer. 7 of us went and only 2 liked it--the other 5 were disappointed. The age ranges that went in our group were 18-58

A good adult movie about some important issues. It's reasonably entertaining, but, for me, not totally satisfying. As so often happens, we fail to learn what makes our main character tick. In this case, we learn ZERO about him. It was worth seeing; just felt unsatisfying in the end. My wife liked it better (George Clooney might have helped in that department).

This is a great movie, but it is only a comedy in the truest (Shakespearean) sense -- it is ultimately a very depressing movie. There are some very funny parts and the acting is superb, but you do not leave feeling uplifted. At least none of the four of us who went did. But we all left thinking, and that alone was worth the price of admission.

Let me start off with a disclaimer: I'm tired of this midwest punk look doldrums style of movie. I should have paid closer attention to the Juno director disclaimer, but I love Clooney and wanted to see it. The movie is Juno Part II. Although well paced, and cute at times, its doldrums just roll on one after another. According to this movie, no one is ever happy, and if they are, they are just fooling themselves. But Clooeny gives the movie life, because of his doldrum-savoirfaire style. It works, but at the end, you're left with just feeling like...blah.

A fine movie, with outstanding performances by the professional actors, as well as affecting statements by individuals who are not actors but who were actually downsized in the course of the current recession. Visually, the film seems to pay homage to 'Wings of Desire.' The script doesn't reach the artistic heights of that older film (or the films to which 'Wings' pays homage); and a couple of the scenes in 'Air' seem extraneous. In all, though, fine.

The movie hit the mark for me. I used to travel a lot and to me the movie captured the corporate travel milieu perfectly. It also reflected the current state of corporate life, an especially realistic touch being the use of real people's reactions to being "let go" at the beginning and end of the movie. The acting is spot on, Bateman, Farmiga, Kendrick and Clooney are sublime. There are funny moments, but the movie is appropriately unsettling, given the subject matter. You will be thinking about it long after you see it.

While the film was presented well, scenes and shots were structured well, and the performances were contained and balanced the story pretty much went......no where. When it came to the script, it seems they were cramming 10 lbs of dirt into a 5 lbs bag.
Whose romance was this anyway? Whose resolution was this? Exactly what did these people take from one another and what were we supposed to take away from the story? There was little resolution and that leaves one feeling a bit ripped off.

Having traveled extensively and participated in layoffs, this struck way to close to home. Trailers are misleading. Don't go expecting a good time. I came very close to walking out - why bother reliving bad moments.
Acting was mediocre, and in the end the experience was unsatisfying. "La la la la life goes on..."

The buzz was so positive about this movie that I expected to be disappointed, but I wasn't! It's a serious movie that hit close to home (I travel a lot). Set in the background of seemingly non-stop business travel, this is a romanic comedy with an excellent twist in the tail. Boy (Clooney) wants to operate alone. Who will love him? Enter girl (Famiga) who also travels alone as much if not more. They meet cute by comparing credit cards (like the battle scar scene in "Lethal Weapon 4") and it looks as if they've found love. Excellent acting and plotting makes this a movie worth watching twice.

Up In The Air is perfect for this day and age. The message of this movie could not be more pressing as we all move through a world that grows more and more distant with every new communication device. When did we all stop looking each other in the eye, and when did we lose the ability to simply talk to one another? These are the questions I left with and as I drove home I found myself wanting to change some of my more disconnected and closed off ways. Movies, like every art form have the power to shine a light and this movie did just that, I highly recommend seeing Up in the Air

Like the adage of “no employee is indispensible,” the film shows that firings are always with us. Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) travels to companies as a contract hatchet man. Before the jobless have cleaned out their desks, Bingham is “in the air.” The swift pace is in sync with its executions: here today, gone tomorrow. Clooney portrays a colorful force in a colorless world of rental cars and meals alone. Bingham falls for another corporate assassin Alex (Vera Farmiga), and karma threatens at his own game. The film captures the pain of being fired and the insides and outsides of a 21st-century organizational man.

Before going in I thought this film was about frequent flying. Well, yes, but mostly no. While travel is a central element the movie is actually about relationships, or the lack of relationships, and how different people deal with that fact. George Clooney comes off really well and I can imagine that this film would have been nowhere near as good with someone else in the lead role.

Humorous but serious, excellent acting, enough plot twists to keep audience engaged. Good use of real people in certain scenes. Husband liked it too.
