Overall, a great ride. I thought the casting choices "made" the movie. Karl Urban as Dr. Leonard McCoy for example was great. Sad to see Simon Peg didn't get much on-screen time, but there is always the sequel.
Had small issues with the changes in the "canon," but overall, will give it a 8 out of 10.
On a side note, if you are going to see it in IMAX, don't sit in front. The action gets blurry.

I took my Dad to see this movie, he really was not interested. However, within the first fifteen minutes he was grinning with appreciation. I thought it was well done and JJ Abrams adhered to Gene Roddenberry's vision. My Dad and I loved it and it is well worth seeing on the IMAX screen. I plan to see it again!

The movie was put together well. I had a few problems with the character differences over what has been laid out over the last 40+ years but I thought the film did a very good job "reinventing" the franchise.
I probably could have done without so many of the fast cuts the Abrams is known for but otherwise found the technical portion of the movie to be excellent.
I do wish a little more time could have been spent on the academy years and had a but of trouble with the final battle (several things didn't make sense). Despite those issues, the story line was entertaining moved very well.

Easily the best Sci-fi film in the past decade. I've never cared for sci-fi flicks, but this was better than most drama, action, and mystery genres. My kids will not stop talking about it, which would usually drive me up the wall, but I find myself quoting the movie jokes and scenes as well!!!! I am a huge star trek fan. This is a perfect addition to the franchise. I think the best of all. Nothing is overdone, unlike the Star Wars prequels, the special effects do not overpower the movie. It is the perfect balance of humor, pure star trek, special effects, story, action, characters, it does't get any better. I saw it once on premiere and again on sunday after. This is my new favorite movie. Will go this week to see again. GO SEE IT!

The new Star Trek has a lot on its plate: explain Kirk's history, that of EVERY other character, as well as the series’ birth. Rather than take the X-Men one character at a time approach, this movie attempts to mold 30 plots into one movie. It begs the question: Is ST really that complicated, or are the back-stories of these characters so short and dull that 5 min covers everything? I'm leaning towards the latter.
The suggestion: don't take this movie seriously at all. If you're looking for a plot, forget about it. If you're looking for coherence between scenes, enter: TIME TRAVEL! Solves all problems. But if you're looking for a bit of fun (dialogue is hilarious), and a serious visual mind-screw, go see it on the IMAX.

The concept was brilliant and helped to push the Trek envelope in a completely new direction. Pine brings an edge to Kirk that we always knew was there, and Quinto does Spock justice (although at times I was wondering if he'd try to open up Kirk's head with his finger to see what made him tick).
The only issue I had, as I do with most movies set in outer space, is there is no sound in a vacuum. Abrams had it right in some scenes (you only hear their breathing as Kirk, Sulu, and a red shirt dive through space), but not in all scenes. Maybe because the public expects their "Earth shattering Kaboom."
If Roddenberry (and my grandmother) were here today, I think they'd both be pleased.

Finally. A summer blockbuster movie that does it right. I was too young for the original series but was familar with the characters and loved this movie. The best part is you dont have to be a fan of Star Trek or even a sci-fi junkie to like this movie, its pure fun entertainment for everyone. A welcome surprise was its humor, I didnt expect to laugh so much, great flick. Definitely check it out.

What makes Star Trek great are its characters and this movie holds true to that detail. Spot on casting and fantastic acting are what's going to set the stage for a terrific franchise reboot. I think this movie definitely could have gone 2 hours 30 mins to help flesh out the plot and develop the villian (Bana) a little more. The story as a whole felt rushed considering they had to spend half the movie giving you the backgrounds of Spock and Kirk. But regardless, the film never lets up and is always entertaining. Hopefully in the next film they can really hit a high note with a superb storyline to go with the great new cast.

My cousin and I went to see Star Trek in IMAX this past weekend. We are both lifelong Trek fans who went into this film with high expectations, and we were not disappointed. Messrs. Abrams, Orci, and Kurtzman have crafted a wonderful story that pays homage to Trek's past without being bound and gagged by it. The acting is uniformly superb, channeling the essence of the classic Trek characters without imitating the original actors. Highly recommended, both for Trek fans and non-Trek fans alike!

I have seen every Star Trek movie and this ranks as of the best! The characters were well developed with crisp dialog paying appropriate homage to the original series without feeling dated. There was not a weak performance in the cast.

We loved this movie. My kids (who don't really know Star Trek) loved the action and the story. My husband and I loved the portrayal of our old favorite characters as young adults. "Bones" was great, and Chris Pine did an excellent job. Having Leonard Nimoy was a great touch. And the movie had some really funny points in addition to all the action. I guess JJ Abrams is a little obsessed with time travel!

The new Star Trek is a mile-a-minute thrill ride that entertains you to the core. The addition of an IMAX presentation has made it all the better. The special effect sequences alone will require muitiple viewings to try and catch everything flying past you on the screen. I am curious however, if JJ Abrams intentionally shot certain scenes out of focus. The presentation was a digital projection, so I know it wasn't the film doing that.

I have seen every Star Trek film made, I had some reservations about how the story would fit into that known by the rest of us and must say that I was simply blown away with the creative and masterfully done film! I will recommend this movie, and IMAX to everyone I know. This movie has most definitely created the "Next Generation" of Trekkies!
