that is only for nostalgic reasons. This Star Trek movie is clearly superior to any other movie of it's genre. I wish all movies were made like this one. From the time that I viewed Star Wars in the 70s, I have always wanted movies to have this much action with these types of special effects, while being character driven at the same time. This is a movie to see on I-MAX. The movie has a great mix of the old and the new, steeling a few 'special effects' from the original (boulders falling down a cliff and the earth shaking). It would have been hard for them to do much better. Great cast.

I think this is the best Star Trek movie I've ever seen. Even though I'm a fan, I've never thought the others were worth seeing more than once. This one is. When they say it restarts the franchise, they weren't kidding.
The cast were perfectly cast. Loved the new Scotty - brings a lot more energy to the role. Even bones was brilliant casting. Uhura was fantastic, and VERY watchable. She needs more screen time in the next one. Pine and Quinn were perfect too. What can I say? This movie is going to appeal to non geeks as well. I predict top grosser of the year, and that the numbers will build with word of mouth. It's that good!

I am a lifelong Trek fan and I was skeptical, but this movie blew me away. BEST Trek movie I ever saw, and I have seen every one. They managed to stay true to the original story lines with only two very minor changes. The special effects were insanely awesome. This movie is sure to create a whole new generation of Trek fans!

Nicely done, for a change. The first was great, but this one beat it. Improvements in special effects made this movie a stand out. The BOMB! Then to add to that, the introduction of Spock into the movie was thecherry on the top!

Stunning, dazzling, smart, funny, moving....I can't believe what the filmmakers packed into 2 hours. I had gotten so tired of the previous Star Trek movies. This one beats them all, by a MILE. This is the way Star Trek should have been done in the movies from the beginning. I took one son to see it on Saturday, then went right back on Sunday with both sons. I'll go again, too, with my wife, before it leaves IMAX. Way, way cool.

When I first heard about this movie, my reaction was "Oh... Star Trek 90210." It is far from it. The movie had everything you'd want from a big budget summer blockbuster and then some. The young cast did an excellent job in their roles. There was both respect paid to the original roles and allowance made for a reinvention of those roles with the new actors. The minor quibble I had was the villain seemed a little mundane and underdeveloped, but that was understandable considering the amount of character development and background material they had to cover.

First - try to see it @ least twice in the theatres. Once for the IMAX experience -- totally surrounded by Star Trek. Then, for the awesome detail you can see in the digital rendering. Went with my wife, her brother-in-law, and her mother for Mother's Day. We all LOVED this movie. My mother-in-law (she watched TOS during its original run) said she had a tear in her eye at the end of the movie. I think I can say that the theater DID seem a bit dusty... We all wanted to stay and watch it again immediately - there's only been a few movies where that is happened to me.
On top of the movie being great, seeing it in IMAX was just over the top. If you get the chance to see it in IMAX, GO!

Pros: Great job of reinventing the Star Trek characters. Lots of action. Chris Pine did a wonderful job of channeling the inner life of a young James T. Kirk. The other cast members were spot on too; except, maybe, Simon Pegg who didn't quite capture Scotty. (Scotty was not a comedian but a total gear head who loved, honored and protected his engines with all his heart and soul.)
Cons:Villian was one dimensional. Action scenes weakened the movie. Most scenes shot in extreme close up with a phrenetic hand held camera feel that left me unable to really follow and understand the action. Need more long establishing shots and slightly slower pace.
Good start though to what I hope will be a great new future for Star Trek.

From the get go this movie takes you on quite a ride. Truly a "must see" for all. Amazing to see how the young Spock resembles the "real" Spock!! , but give Chekov a new haircut, please! Star Trek was a new take on the old franchise, and overall I felt that the movie was very good. They came up with a "Star Trek Plausible" explanation as to why everything was different. Great special effects, and a good storyline especially for Star Trek movies.
IMAX on the other hand was a bit of a dissapointment. I drove extra distance and paid a premium to see the movie in what I though was going to be a premium movie experience, and it was dissappointing. I expected the usual IMAX form the Baltimore Sience Center. However, the theater, screen, or sound wasn't any better than my usual theater. And, the price was double what I would have paid locally.
I recommend Star Trek, just not IMAX t in Columbia, MD.

I thought the movie was quite entertaining. A nice fresh update to the characters in the original series. Interesting how the story line establishes an alternate timeline so they don't have to follow anything in the original series, easy to write more movies but not limited to following the genre established.

This movie just bumped Top Gun off the top of my all time favorite list!!!! I would pay to see this one over again. I was still shaking with adrenaline AFTER the movie was over. Quickest 2hr movie I've ever seen. YOU GOTTA SEE IT!!!! IN IMAX!

The movie was craftily written and tied everything together nicely. The best part of this movie was the casting...they got it right on all accords!! This is as good as any of the later Star Wars movies and to me better than Dark Knight cause I liked Iron Man better than Dark Knight anyway. I digress...go see it...it's a great thrill ride and a good story!!

We went to see the IMAX version with a couple of friends and without a doubt this was one heck of a good ride. We were probably sitting a bit close (was crowded) and my wife got nauseous from the motion but even she wanted to see it again. Casting was great and twists were many.

As the third generation of Trekkies, I had to go see this movie. I went on Mother's Day with my Mom, Grandmother, and husband. It was such a thrill for all of us to see as my grandmother put it, 'all of our old heroes young again.' They did such a good job of retelling the story and pulling in all of the characters in a way that wasn't just repeating the old storyline. The acting was excellent. The effects were amazing. All in all, this was a very well put together movie. I will gladly go see it again. Only one problem-- if you are going to see it in IMAX, get there early!!!!! We got there just as the movie was starting and from the second row, we saw every pore on James T. Kirk's face.
