Good story, and well acted by Downey and Law. Sadly lacking in chemistry between Holmes and Adler (McAdams) and for me that presented a problem for this movie and, of course, for the sequel already introduced at the end of this first installment. A little long, but a fun film. As a die hard Holmes reader, the film lacked enough of the classic deduction that I enjoy in the books.

The plot is slow and boring at first. The actors are well cast and believable in their roles. Their accents are weak or mumbled and at times it is difficult to understand what they say; missing some important statements involved in the plot. Its interesting entertainment and a tricky plot so I recommend seeing it.

Expected better from Robert Downing Jr. Reminded me of the last "Pirates of the Carribean", all special effects, thin unbelievable plot. Lastly, to portray Sherlock Holmes as a James Bond type must make Sir Arthur Conan Doyle roll in his grave. The one positive in this movie were the visuals and special effects. I would rename this movie "Ironman in the 19th century"

It's a Guy Ritchie thing, so of course it's not quite the sophisticated & elegant portrayals we read through the years. Robert Downey & Jude Law are eye-candy that will ensure a loyal female following . :-)
Thankfully, Ritchie didn't make it as bloody, cynical, or raunchy as some of his other flicks, so I have no reservations about recommending it to family & friends. Amd I like the cliff-hanger...

Robert Downey and Jude Law gave great performances, and suberbly portrayed the chemistry between Holmes and Watson. The computer graphics worked well to give us a sense of the pre-modern London, that we could never see with contemorary on-location footage. Unfortunately, I thought Rachel McAdams was very weak. A cartoon performance. Overall the movie is worth seeing.

Difficult to understand what was said. Too violent from what I remember of other versions of this twosome. Sherlock was not not that much of ladies man, nor was Watson. I went on seniors day so the admission was less, thank goodness. Wait for he video. Interesting but too lengthy.

I enjoyed this movie very much. The movie shows Sherlock Holmes as the in-depth critical thinker he is and his need for Watson to solve mysteries. I think many will enjoy this movie.

My wife and I went to see Sherlock Holmes the other day and we were very disappointed. I thought it was difficult to follow and it was very fragmented. The action was pretty good, but the story never seemed to develop very well. I thought the dialogue was very hard to understand at times. Rent it, you'll save money. Don't see it in the theater.

This was a great action movie, and I would absolutely recommend it, but as an old Sherlock Holmes Fan, I was kind of left with my mouth open in awe! The Sherlock/Holmes I remember were never like this! I would love to see it as a weekly TV show so that they could fill in some of the blanks. Bravo to actors Downey, Jr. & Law!!

I really enjoyed this film. In the age of "reboots" and "re-imagining" this is one of the best. Guy Ritchie, who has not fared well outside of London gangster films, has done a great job of bringing forth a story that is modern and classical at the same time. We get the proper English gentlemen we know for the past, and add it 21st century wit, and action. A stellar cast, with a scary villain. Everyone should see this film.

I thought the movie was very good, both main characters were excellent......I think Robert Downey Jr is making the comeback of his career, he's had several winners of late.....and Jude Law is always on his game.......great action......would have liked a love scene with Rachel McAdams :)

Poor Mr. Downey. Not even his fine portrayal of the mild freak-ness which makes Holmes such a great detective but such a pathetic man can't give this movie a point. Early on, it dribbles into nothing more than another excuse for Guy Richie to show people big pictures of pig carcasses and shirtless cave men beating up on each other. Rachel McAdams' character just doesn't fit, as this is not a movie about a 21st century girl who gets sucked into a 19th century detective story through some hole in the space-time continuum. Overall, it's just dumb.

action packed, interesting plot and good use of humor. our group ranged from ages 13 to ages 40+ and the movie was enjoyed by all. we saw it on Christmas eve 12:01am show and it was well worth staying up for. Robert Downey Jr pulls off an excellent Sherlock closely followed by Jude Laws Holmes.
