My daughter loved this movie. I enjoyed it, but the franchise is tired. It lacked the power, complexity and spirit of the other three. Worth the watch if your a fan of the series, but not much to take home.
If I never read a book, watched television, saw a play or a movie, I might have something positive to say about this uninteresting and uninspiring dribble. A flat premise with a shallow plot amounts to nothing. I'd rather read dirty limricks.
The plot of the movie was basic, and I didn't see anything new. However, Aniston and Butler have good chemistry. It's fun to watch. Most of the characters had something delightful to offer, and overall I was entertained.
The darkest movie I have seen in a long time. Don't get me wrong, I love biting & hard hitting satire, but this was darkness without a point, the director is a bully waiting around the corner to steal your lunch money. Beware! After you remove the polish of seasoned actors and the shiney special effects, an unrepetant thug's tale is all you have left, and it's poorly told as well. I am mostly upset that the full extent of this movie's dark depths was lost on the people around me.
Robert Downey and Jude Law gave great performances, and suberbly portrayed the chemistry between Holmes and Watson. The computer graphics worked well to give us a sense of the pre-modern London, that we could never see with contemorary on-location footage. Unfortunately, I thought Rachel McAdams was very weak. A cartoon performance. Overall the movie is worth seeing.
Some clever dialogue, funny bits and performed well, but otherwise uninspiring. The Wonder Years meets Night of the Living Dead. The "finding family" theme was too cliche'
Good story, subtle satire and humor. Interesting political parallels and subtext. Great special effects, and plenty of action. I didn't know the acting talent, and that was good, put a fresh and real look to the movie. Performances were very good. The documentary live action feel worked very well. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
An excellent Sci-Fi adventure, whether young or old, whether you're a staunch fan or newcomer to the story. Frankly, to keep the franchise going I think they needed to return to the power of Roddenberry's original characters. They did this with excellent casting. As a kid, I watched the original broadcasts on TV. I have loved it ever since, and this movie did not disappoint. References all the way back to the original pilot were wonderful. Adding Nemoy was great, and gracefully done, as he deserves. Go see it.
